If you're saying the PS3 will be comfortable....do you have the hands of a baby?

DS2 is even too small for my hands (which are pretty average really) PS3's controller looks tiny.

How are you supposed to use the shoulder buttons? The thing is so curved it looks like it would pop right out of your palms. And the shoulder buttons look way to high for the placement of the analog sticks also. The thing looks horrible lol

Was the PS3 controller present at TGS 2005? I seem to recall some reports of it being absent but the PS3 console was there....

I do hope they add something revolutionary to it though...

Whatever Sony do with the final design of their controller, I just hope they do not make the D-PAD as bad as the PSP's.
Also, the face buttons on the ps3 controller need to be bigger, the smaller psp buttons make it hard to press 2 buttons simulaneously without having to adjust your wrist.
Appart from that it doesn't look too bad, the silver looks cheap though.

Sony will probably copy the Revolution controller's features, recognizing its position relative to motion sensors and stuff. Nintendo told everyone its design too early. Maybe Nintendo wants Sony to copy its controller's features so that games can be ported easily.

Didn't Sony have patents for this type of deal way before the revolution came out? Nintendo just beat them to the market. Sony just needs to copy the 360 which is just an optimized DS2 and blend in the elements of the revolution and it'll be perfection!

REFLEX Control™ combines the speed, precision, and natural control of a mouse with the handheld comfort and compact, ergonomic design of a console controller. By integrating a thumb operated trackball into a standard console controller, White Fusion has developed a system of providing the same intuitive interaction of a PC control system in a form factor that is familiar to generations of console video game players.

A trackball isn't really good for FPS and other genres. If they added tension to the movement of the ball itself then maybe. Thats a pretty cool mod they did for the DS2 though.

BlueTsunami - Have you tried it out? There seems to be generally good impressions for it. Granted those pictures are very early models and it needs some tweaking, it sounds like the next evolutionary step for controllers.

I remember trying to use a Trackball for Battlefield 2 (for the PC) wasn't to fun. I couldn't really keep my aim steady (Probably if I used it longer I would have gotten better with it). I haven't used the one you've shown though. Now that I think about it, it would actually probably be better than the analog sticks. It looks cool nonetheless.

I don't understand why Sony still refuses to move that left analog stick, into the prime position, where the dpad is. This was a major factor why I chose Xbox over PS2 "last" generation.

I grew accustomed to the N64 pad, where your thumb was positioned directly over the analog stick, if you want to go forward, your thumb moves forward, etc.

With the dual-shock, and this PS3 controller, I had the feeling of having my thumb reaching so far over to the right...and if I want to move the stick up/forward...my thumb has to move like, up to it's left.

Perhaps I'm the only one in the universe that is so thrown by that tiny issue. but when nearly all games take advantage of the analog stick, as the main method of moving and navigating 3d space in today's games, I just don't know why they don't flip it with that dpad.

I think the Xbox, especially the 360, really has a pad that hits on all cylinders.

Not sure why the banana controller has gotten so much hate. I wouldn't mind a new design, but the design is similar to a PC controller that gotof good reviews. But I would like to see some extra features packed into it, and we're still not seeing mic support (unless they go with bluetooth headsets.)

I really liked the idea somebody here had about color-coding the controller to make it more recognizable to EyeToy. Gyroscopic controller (or motion-sensitive, at least) is an awesome idea that has been brewing for a while (nod to Nintendo, but I wouldn't call it a rip if somebody else added the feature now or already had it in the R&D room), but it's expensive, and we haven't proven what Rev will do. If the EyeToy could carry some of the load just by recognizing colors on the image (and even though depth is tricky as hell, we've seen how amazing the PS3 can be when paired with EyeToy in the cups demo and in the faces video demo), it could be very cool even if it's not incredibly sensitive like Rev promises to be.

Not like the Dual Shock was ever a masterpiece of design and comfort.

It was for me. As opposed to Nintendo's insistence on bizarre button layouts and MS's oversized controllers, which seem designed for people with fat meaty paws and sausage fingers (even the Type S is a little too chunky to be completely comfortable for long periods), the Dual Shock 2 fits my hands perfectly and feels logically laid-out. (I also prefer my analog sticks on the same level, not some halfassed design where one's somewhere near the top of the controller and the other's stuck near the bottom, which both Nintendo and MS are guilty of.) I'm not too keen on the boomerang based on its appearance, but if it feels anywhere near as good in my hands, I'm sold.

DEAR SQUARE, SONY, NINTENDO, AND VARIOUS OTHER GAME COMPANIES OF THE WORLD:

STOP MAKING US WAIT AN ETERNITY FOR NEW GAMES AND INFORMATION. WE WOULD LIKE TO PLAY YOUR GAMES AND LEARN ABOUT YOUR NEW PRODUCTS BEFORE WE GROW OLD.

THANK YOU.

Neither sentence computes. Fuuugly.

So aesthetically - just looking at the visual image, without taking functionality into consideration at all - you honestly mean to tell me that you think something chunky and blocky like the X360 controller looks better than a clean, streamlined arc shape does? Seriously. It may feel like shit once you've got it in your hands (or it may not), but in terms of looks, it's far from fugly unless you're looking at it through fan goggles. :p

I don't understand why people need triggers or one analog stick where the d-pad is. What the fuck is wrong with you?
