Sony Q3: PS3/PS4 7.8 M; FY13 FCT 15M

If these numbers are accurate, the 360 likely outsold the PS3 last year and is still slightly ahead LTD.

No it didn't. PS3 sold (shipped) 6.5m units in the first 9 month of 2013, the 360 did 7m for the entire year. I don't know how much the PS3 shipped the last quarter, but what I do know is that it's more then 0.5m!

Did the PS2 slow down as much as the PS3 has when the triple was released?

Seems crazy that the triple has slowed as quickly as it has...

Ps2 sold 1.4 million in the Dec 2006 NPD, on worldwide scale Sony sold something like 50 more Ps2 after the PS3 release. I dont think there is any chance PS3 goes on to sell 1/3 of the LTD at PS4 release.

The company is going on a fitness program trimming of the unprofitable/non progressive divisions

Could be interesting on where it takes them

I checked the Vita and Psp numbers for Q3 from the media create Threads

In Japan;

~516 k Vitas

~65 k Psp

~581,5 psp/Vitas

So

About 1 418 500 Psp/ Vitas in the rest of the World

X360 by quarters: 1.3 million, 1 million, 1.2 million, 3.5 million = 7 million
PS3 by quarters: 3.4 million (this still had PS2?), 1.1 million, 2 million, 3.3 - 3.5 million = 9.8 - 10 million

So really no.

PS3 outsold Xbox 360 in CY2013, this is for sure.

But there still has the chance for Xbox 360 to have the cumulative lead in sell-in numbers by the end of 2013. However, the lead will be very minor.

Nope, these are shipments.

Anyone remembers forecast for PSV+PSP?

edit: 5M for this FY, they'll miss even that pathetic number and last year was 7M. Portable business is dead for Sony.

You are mixing up sell-through and sell-in. PS4 sell-through was 4.2M, sell-in was ?? (though probably not too much higher since it was pretty much sold out everywhere). XBO sell-through was 3M, sell-in was 3.9M. 360 sell-in was 7.0M, PS3 was ?? (> 6.5M and < 10.1M, probably closer to 10.1M due to PS4 shortages).

Yep pretty damn awful. Not sure how they fix that other than hoping PS4 owners get an urge to play remotly so buy Vita's on mass.

I think you have mentioned remote play as a selling point more times than all of the SCE executives combined.

I think Sony owns 5% of the PC line still and I believe that Sony is still the parent of the TV line, which would make sense for it being subsidized

We need a creamsugar for earnings now? Pathetic, Sony. Man up and show us the numbers.

They've been doing it since they launched the Vita to mask it's poor performance, this isn't exactly new.
It will only stop when the PS3 or PSP get discontinued.

Oh, ok, so these are the numbers of shipped consoles

Sony: 14.3M (PS4: 4.2M, PS3: 10.1M)
Microsoft: 11.8M (XBO: 3.9, 360: 7.9M)
Nintendo: 4.32M (Wii U: 2.8M, Wii: 1.5M)

What if they discontinue PSP and Vita at the same time?

Haha, well, yeah, then we're boned too!
With the failure the Vita has been, I honestly wouldn't be shocked if that day happened sooner than later.
Still, I think Sony is gonna cling to that handheld market, at least for a while.

No more numbers in the conference call?
There's a transcript up on Seeking Alpha (although I think they've mistranscribed what should say 5 million into 50M...) but there wasn't really anything there that wasn't already announced - is 150M PSN accounts a new number?

150 million PSN accounts?

While i know there are plenty of duplicates, this is huge.

Ok, I've decided to estimate what are the Vita LTD shipments as of date. This is my first time doing anything like this, so please, tell me if I count something wrong.

First off, lets get 2011 out of the way shall we? It was just released in Japan, so we can have good estimate on what Vita has sold in 2011 thanks to our thread.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=457828

Vita's shipped/sold were atleast 439,986 (according to Media Create)

Thanks to the Sony's official results page, we can track down what their Handheld shipments have been.

http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/IR/financial/fr/

Problematic is that they combine PSP and PSV sales together. For now we can just ignore this. Lets just count what their shipments are.

If I understand correctly, Sony financial year is not the same as normal year. So in order to get 2012s total sales, we need to track period between Q42011-Q32012, as Q4 are results from January-March.

For handhelds(PSV+PSP), this means shipments of:
0.9m + 1.4m + 1.6m + 2.7m = 6,6m

We can do the same for 2013s sales, and handheld(PSV+PSP) sales from Q42012-Q32013:
1.3m + 0.6m + 0.8m + 2.0 m = 4.7m

So total sales from 2011 are(with PSP2012-2013 included):
0.439m + 6.6m + 4.7m = 11.739m

Now we have those pesky PSP sales bothering us. There is small glimmer of hope in this case. Most of PSP sales from 2012-2013 are from Japan, as I assume PSP has not sold much in other countries(PSP wasnt even counted on 2013s NPD's).

Therefore, we can track how much PSP has sold in Japan during period of 2012-2013, thanks to the latest Media Create information:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=746506

So we can count PSP's 2012-2013 sales in Japan to be:
20 068 409 - 18 729 393 = 1 339 016 which rounds about 1.339m

We can reduce PSP2012-2013(Japan) from total Handheld sales, so:
11.739m - 1.339m =10.4m

Ultimately, this means that PSVita's maximum LTD sales are:
10.4m aka 10 400 000
However, we need to reduce PSP2012-2013(Other World) sales from this, but as of this moment, it is much harder to get those numbers.

... Hopefully I didnt screw up anything with my calculations. :p

Thanks... I read that.

He meant 15m for the FY... PS3 + PS4 combined.... not 50m.

This is a particularly good sign because this is when Sony traditionally loses money. Even on successful products like the PS2, money was lost at first. That this isn't happening so far with the PS4 is a very, very good sign.

So far seems their PS4 business is going to work wonders. Along with the tightening up of their ship elsewhere, Sony may be finally turning the ship around if I may be slightly optimistic for once.
