Sony reveals new PSN store

Anyone in the UK still not got the new store? Mine updated then said 'under maintenance' and reverted back to the old store. Bee like that ever since. Anyone know a fix for this?

It's weird that they are launching the new store in other countries but it still isn't back in the UK.
I wonder what the problem is with the UK one specifically that is stopping them from bringing it back there but not from launching it in new places.

Same thing in France, as almost all the surrounding countries have the new one. I'm glad they put the old one back so I could buy Unfinished swan and download some demos.

So which is it? We have people saying it's slow as molasses and other who claim uber speeds.

From UI side it sounds like bad store got worse. Hard to remember but the store was actually quite ok a yaer or so ago. Then they started doing all that shitty reordering so you could not find anything.

bah

I like how the new search works. Very easy to find things now (i never really had any big problems with the previous search, but it is easy to find things with the new search at least).

The store feels fast enough now in my opinion. The startup time (about 35 seconds) is still the same however. I dont think that this will be changed much. Or maybe if they find a way to eliminate the resolution check before. I see that my TV tries to change resolution when i launch it, just like what happends when i launch games.

I imagine because they are both bigger markets than the surrounding countries.

It must be that every time I tried to get the new store in the UK, it was down at the time. Now that I've got the weekend off, it seems that it's been postponed. Sigh...

Well, I tried it. I do one thing the most in the store, I connect to see what new trailers, demos and new game that gotten released every week.

To do this I am forced to step through a load of screens with games I already know exist and the only thing that happens is that it irritates me. Oh and it's full of lies. Latest my ass, just whatever Sony wants to promote, no matter how fucking old. How fucking stupid do they think we are?

Oh and apparently trailers do not exist anymore. Thats nice, who wanted those anyway.

I'll at least give them the benefit of a doubt and guess they are temporarily removed because of the launch or something.

No way, this one is actually suited for big HD screens, everything was too small and cluttered on the old one.

And yes, it's a lot faster, at least in Sweden.

Hm, I'd say it was the other way around, they've made everything bigger, which benefits small SD screens.
The old one could display 20 icons at once, with a large text description for the selected one alongside, although it did have a large empty border around it which it could have done without or made use of.

From the Netherlands: It launched but the loading is pretty slow. The older PSN store loaded faster. It takes for a while before you can browse now.

(and no its not my internet, I have a 50mb/s connection)

Still dont have it.

Kind of weird of SCEE to release something first EVERYWHERE else then release it last in the UK and Ireland.

I am having problems signing into PSN though. Last few times I turned my ps3 on it failed and I had to try 2 more times before it finally signed in. I guess they are still messing around with stuff.

Launch problems, was the same when the previous launched, give it some time.

This is a definite regression to me. More space to advertise content is probably the primary reason why it happened this way.

Worst thing is it violates the golden "provide reasonable defaults" rule of usability. Reasonable default for a demo is to immediately start a background download. No putting it in a cart, so I can later proceed to a separate "check-out" process where I get to confirm my "purchase" with a grand total cost of 0.00€. And the download still doesn't start in this step. And it's still a foreground download when it does. The type nobody ever wants to use.

The old store could do the same "cart full of free items" shit, technically, but at least it put you straight on the download button by default when inspecting a free item. And it didn't require "purchase" confirmation either when you didn't actually have to spend any money.

So they had this chance to fix their fundamental download process, and instead of making it reasonable, they made it worse.

I don't even understand what the entrance page of the store is good for at this point. Unless you're in a section (:=game) and have placed at least one filter, the whole screen is just random garbage.

On the plus side, I think the connection between The Game and all its related content (demo, trailers, screenshots, DLC etc) looks like it's a little smarter, and works in both directions now. Looks like.

26MB software update for store...

I like the store a lot

Love how you scroll side to side, the middle background shifts above the wallpaper overlay

Do you guys think this will replace the XMB?

I mean, make the same style for what we have in the XMB, with the XMB horizontal axis on the list, and the vertical axis as the tiles.

I love the XMB, so simple and elegant, but I wonder what will happen to it.

I dont think that Sony will change the XMB on PS3, but i dont expect the XMB to be used on PS4.

Like said above, I don't think they will change it at this point, it has seemingly been hacked to pieces by Sony to make what they want work and not work that great so they probably don't want to mess with it.

Saying that, I could see myself enjoy some form of a similar style to store as the main OS, something I would like is what MS does and let us show our games off with full box arts, I would take a grid of games with proper art than the tiny little sequences or stills we get now in a line, something more like the pictures folder layout.

On the contrary, it should be tested, tested, tested.

Hopefully they'll give Europe the old one back.
2 days later here and it still sucks.

The old store loaded in 2 seconds and showed you 20 games at a time.
5 different ways to view content.
To search you got a keyboard.
A purchased item was clearly marked with a red shopping bag.
It was smooth and fast to use.

All gone.

New store takes 30s to load, often only shows 3 games at a time. In the Plus-section, half the screen is a Plus-banner. Half the screen! Then below that, a filter-bar.
No ability to switch to a simpler list view or show more icons.
Search is very, very slow to use. Only A-->Z scrolling too.
When you bought something, it changes the price tag to "download". Same font, same color. Download history is hidden in the main menu, no quick link in the top right corner anymore.
Slow and choppy to use. The little "jump" the entire screen makes when you browse through the main pages is also very annoying. Those who have used the new store will know what I mean.

Good to see the store has been delayed. Maybe they will manage to make it actually work before they release it in the US, lol.

I kinda wish they'd wait to update the store until they can incorporate it into the firmware so things will load faster.

I'm not sure they could do that anyway. As far as I can tell, they'd need to keep the old store in for games accessing that specific client (it has been reported by new store users that in-game calls to store bring up the old one) which would result is less space for other stuff.

This is unless calls to the old store can be "redirected" to the new one by the OS.

That's SCEA for you.

I mean seriously...is SCEA just worse than everyone else regarding the Store? We here in the US never got a US football game BackBreaker Vengeance months late because of issues the publishers had with SCEA...where as SCEE got it on time.

we also got a demo from them late because of SCEA.

how do some people still keep their jobs?

They all have their issues. SCEA are great at getting games to actually come out quickly, SCEE are great at promotional deals (sales, PS+, etc) and updating the store at a consistent time and SCEJ are great at classics releases. Merge all three and you'd actually get a really good service.

Why do they keep posting the pic with Resident Evil Gold Edition for plussers? :D Aren't they tired of answering "no, it's a placeholder" to people asking if it's actually coming?

I was just looking at that and wondering the same thing. Why go to the trouble of making a mock-up of the store when you could just, you know, show the actual store?

Yep sadly this is a huge reason they gimped the new store forcing you to scroll across three large pages of advertising to get to the all new section.

EA must be dishing out the money because the advertising is all bullshit for Battlefield 3 and FIFA.
