Sony reveals new PSN store

I fumbled with the new store yesterday. I think its pretty neat. I like the interface and how they categorised the games. I dig how they added backdrop collages behind each offer page.

Game pages are cool and for me its generally easier to browse through.

The general speed is pretty good now. Hopefully they can maintain that once the larger countries are using the new store as well.

That leaves launch speed, USB keyboard search entry, download steps for free stuff, and sorting of the download history as the major things they still need to fix.

So, are expired free PS+ games showing as free for anyone else? Downloaded strangers wrath, darksiders and dead space 2 just now.

Have you downloaded a trial for those games?

That shit is véry confusing.
If you've downloaded one of those 24 hour trials, it will change the price tag to "Bought", even though you didn't buy anything.
Why not keep showing the price tag until you've actually bough it?!

Having said that, it does look like Dead Space 2 is free at the moment. It's clearly marked as free for Plus.
Plants vs Zombies is not. Dead Rising 2 isn't even available, I can only find Off The Record.

So I gave the new store a very quick spin. First impression; Awful. Absolutely awful. I always hated the previous store but this is even worse.

I really don't understand this request. Or rather, I understand it, but why don't you just use the main Search function for searching content you have already downloaded?

Content already downloaded can be re-downloaded right from the item page. No need to go through the download history.

Or am I missing something?

I think having a list of some sort of content you own would be nice. I've been a Plus member for ages, I honestly have no idea what Sony was offering me for free 6 months ago, but whatever it was I probably tagged it and never actually downloaded it. Would be nice to know what that game was - being able to sort download history by game, demo, dlc, would be a nice feature.

I do that for many things, but, two problems:
  1. Content I don't remember I 'own'
  2. Content that has been removed from the store

Yeah PS+ fucked my DL list pretty bad

Those Uncharted 2 DLC for free, that takes forever to scroll through or the avatar packs >_<

Up to so many items, it's not even funny anymore

Give me TABS for fucks sakes

Games (PS3) + Add-Ons/Games (PSN) + Add-Ons/Vita + PSP/PS2 + PS1/Minis/Demos + Extras

So 6 Tabs

Yeah, the download list should be separated into categories.
Like, only list all full PSN games I own from A to Z (including PS+ ones but labelled).
Same for DLC, list all I own sorted by game.

Even better would be if you could run a HDD check to let them label in the store/download list what you have actually installed on the PS3. For games I can check in my games folders, but e.g. DLC is much easier to miss.

that would be great, kinda like Steam.

Well, I tried it. I do one thing the most in the store, I connect to see what new trailers, demos and new game that gotten released every week.

To do this I am forced to step through a load of screens with games I already know exist and the only thing that happens is that it irritates me. Oh and it's full of lies. Latest my ass, just whatever Sony wants to promote, no matter how fucking old. How fucking stupid do they think we are?

Oh and apparently trailers do not exist anymore. Thats nice, who wanted those anyway.

I'll at least give them the benefit of a doubt and guess they are temporarily removed because of the launch or something.

This is by far the worst thing about the new store. To see this week's new releases I have to scroll past three pages of FIFA, Call of Duty and other old shit. Not to mention that most customers aren't gonna see these new releases because they're buried so deep. For example, you will have no idea that Doom 3 BFG was released if you don't find your way past those three pages. If I was a small publisher/developer I'd be pretty damn worried about that.

As an aside this new store makes me worried for the PS4 OS. Sony just doesn't seem to have a clue when it comes to user interface.

I want to see see a list of the games I've bought.
A very simple request, no?

However, it's not possible.

Your suggestion is to use the search?

"Bought" indicates a game you bought
"Bought" indicates a game you got through Plus
"Bought" indicates a game of which you download the 24 hour trial

How do I know which ones I really bought?
There's no way to find out, unless you download them and check for a timer.

edit:

I just noticed the game page has a different game description when it's a time trial or a Plus-game.
So only if you know which games you've bought, and you check the description of each one, you know for sure if you bought them.

But there's no way of getting a simple list of your purchased games.

Hopefully we get that eventually. With hopefully a sorting feature, to only list Vita-games for example, or PSone-classics.

OS =/= UI

XMB is the best UI even though the ps3 OS is shit.

Having said that, ps3 came from the kutaragi era, so I fully expect the ps4 to be garbage in every respect.

Isn't all that "bought" content listed in the Download List as well? AFAIK everything you *download* is listed there (bought, plus stuff, trials). So you wouldn't know what it is "bought" even by searching the Download List.

Maybe you want a searchable *Purchase* History (rather than just a Download List with search functionality).

Again:
How do I know which ones I really bought?

The download list contains everything you ever downloaded.
Not only the games you bought, but also everything you got free through Plus, as well as demos and trials.
Everything.

If you click it, it downloads.
So unless you actually want to download a 10GB file to check if a game has a timer, there's no way of knowing if you bought it or not.

(edited to translate from Dutch to English)

All of those say "full game" and "bought".
That's however false.
Two of them are 1-hour-trials, one of them is a Plus-freebie.

Why not add a little icon and/or a different description if that's possible?

But this isn't a problem with the current store, it's always been like that. And as they said, the download list will be improved in the future, which already makes it better then the old one, we just have to hope it doesn't take long.

Sure, but TTP replied "I really don't understand this request. " to someone who wanted to sort his download history.

There are many reasons to want that. For example knowing what is what. Demo, trial, game, Plus freebie, etc.
From within the download history, you don't know. Because when you click it, it downloads.

Anyway, what happened to Deus Ex Human Revolution? Not on my Store anymore. Searching for Deus Ex only brings up the original.

Oh yeah I agree, I just found it odd complaining about it now since we already knew it's the same at launch they are changing it later.

Why hide the price at all? Just because I already bought something, doesn't mean its price becomes irrelevant to me.

I was referring specifically to the lack of a search function mind you. But I understand you were asking for something more elaborated than that.

Just did a test.
Went to search for the heavenly sword demo on the old store and new store (AUS).

Seems regardless of which store you use it can't be found using search. Only way is to manually look through all the demos and find it. That's just one example but I think it's something that's a problem with both stores. Weird.

One glaring thing was that it took the same time for me to find the demo on the old store as it took for the new store to even boot up. Wow.

Yeah I was hoping the new store would fix how stuff is organised, but it's still bad.

Seaching for Darksiders: Nothing
All games alphabetically: No Darksiders
PS3 Essentials category: Darksiders!

German store btw. I doubt people will bother to look further if search doesn't turn up anything. Lost sales right there.

I've noticed that too.
Deus Ex is another one.

Yeah the new store isn't really working... Holland here btw... I can only find the Double Dragon Neon demo. The whole game is out right? Is it possible to find it somehow?

I was just able to access the new UK store from my NA ps3.

I love how the what's new and latest sections aren't actually the newest stuff for this week. And what were they thinking making some useless headers take up half the screen space, leaving room for only 6 games to display!? Smh

Other than the initial load, the speed wasn't much of an issue for me at least.

Man these impressions are disheartening to read. Did Sony give any reason why the new store was delayed for NA?

Well for me it was re-downloading every PSP/PSOne games onto my Vita, I forgot which ones I've bought over the years and going back 2000+ items ain't fun. To make matters worse I was doing it on Vita when it goes to the most recent every time I click download.

Eventually I realized what the fuck am I doing it on Vita and start downloading them on PS3 but still, going through that list was dreadful.

It hasn't been rolled out in Italy yet. When it gets rolled out, you'll have to download an update to the PS Store app.

ok thanks

However on playstation blog they say that the new store is already start on italy too....
