Sony reveals new PSN store

Mini rant,

40 seconds for the store to load is not acceptable, the last store took me around 4 seconds to load, 4 seconds!, this new store is taking TEN times as long to load, I would always boot up the old store on a whim just to have a quick browse of content but now it feels like a chore to boot it up, it would be quicker to load the original web page store tbh, and on top of that it's a pain to navigate.

I'm really starting to get annoyed at Sony consistently making things worse this gen.

My first run was 30 seconds. Subsequent re-runs of the store was about 10 seconds from pressing the button to the front page.

I don't think the UK store even takes 10 seconds to load for me, still slower then the old one but no where near 40 seconds.

I actually always did it like that in the old store so I didn't need to bother clicking 'Background download' for every item I downloade. But yeah, if you want to download a single demo it should be easier.

Yeah, I agree that the mass download option you get that way is very handy, but they should have 2 buttons for stuff that is free. One to download and another one to add to cart.

- Slooooow.

Where? Because mine is a lot faster than the old one, no lag and icons load almost instantly when clicking on a menu, they used to popping up, like, one and one most of the times before.

But yes, the startup is painfully slooooow. Around 30 seconds is not okay, they need to fix that.

I don't find the store slow at all in terms of actual speed. It loads up quick for me, 10 seconds absolute maximum. Icons all load up, menus load up. The problem is that stutter. It's a small jerk but it's so frequent that it is incredibly off-putting.

So the store is up again in my region. Other than the initial load (which is still like double of the old store atm) everything else is super fast! The tiles came up almost instantly (old store took a good 10 seconds to load everything). But the speed increase when viewing items in the grid view thing is completely off the scale. What use to take up to 10 seconds to load (icons and etc) is there within 2 seconds after loading the section.

So yeah, the new store is currently heads above the older one for me (although most of my issues was due to the old store just being slow). With a few tweaks (download button on free content; download list filter) this update could be godlike!

Content grouping also makes more sense than the old store.

Mixed feelings about it after having just used it a couple of times last night ;

+ Cleaner, sexier interface than that blue stuff
+ Nice to get all available content on a game, such as pictures, avatars, themes, DLC etc
+ It now shows the download size before you download it! Hurrah!

- Harder to find what you want. For some reason, in PS+, the trial and unlock and full game download are not next to each other. Only the unlock file. So do I have to go and search it just to find the download? Urgh.
- Slooooow.

yup my feelings exactly. im sure they'll get the performance woes fixed eventually. and i guess the cost for the new improvements is making things a bit harder to find, but im ok with that.

Tried to find the Joker challenge maps for Batman: Arkham Asylum, but they don't show up via search and I couldn't find them by digging through the store myself (which was just awful due to the horrible vanilla sorting, and the filters didn't help much). Either they're gone from the store or Sony has just stuffed them away somewhere deep down in a random sub-category.

Used it once last night. It's two steps forward, one step back. Negative impressions:

Downloads, when started, should immediately go into the background. The fact that they still don't after however many years of updates is terrible. That's more of a firmware issue, but the point still stands.

Taking up a third of the screen is awful design in the first place, but with the ability to change the tile size removed, it's even worse.

More of the controller needs to be used. I'm thinking some sort of quick 'add to cart' button, or at least a way to select more than one thing at once.

The "Buy the demos first" thing really is as terrible as people have been saying, eurgh. It wouldn't be so bad if the store wasn't so slow.

And last but not least: the store needs to actually work if I'm to continue using it. I added 4 things to the cart, went to checkout, 3 were invisible, then the "purchasing" bit never finished.

I imagine that's all been said, but I'm shocked by how much can be made worse by an update. Who do they get to design this stuff?

Have you tried going to the Arkham Asylum game page and then going to Add-ons?

Thanks Sony for including free Rayman Origins (Vita), Super Stardust Delta, Puddle and Pure Chess for free in the Vita section of the new PS3 Spanish PSN store.
.

Am I the only one thinking this is what PS+ for Vita is going to be in the beginning ..?

Looks like most of the Essentials-games can't be found through the search.

Search for Uncharted and you'll only find #2 and #3, even though the first game is available too. But you have to go to the Essentials section to find it.

Yeah. I think PlayStation Home might actually take less time to load :D

Well Home is WAAAAAY faster than it was back when it started. I think you can get a fresh install of Home up and running in about a minute these days, which is quite amazing compared to what it was.

Hopefully the new PSN store will have similar improvements. ;)

If this is really HTML5 based, then kudos at getting it all to run as well as it does, really.

I just read a few tidbits on the net and why the hell do people state that usb keybords don't work with the new store?
it's straight out not true. Just plugged in my Wii keyboard (yeah i'm dat weird!) and it worked fine on the search.
just strange that it still scrolls (fast) throught the single letters, but that fixable.
i like the new store. Needs some tweaks here and there but oberall way better than before.
it's also got way faster since the first day.

They meant the traditional XMB keyboard.

Could have sworn I saw people specifically mentioning USB keyboards too, in addition to the on screen keyboard.

I REALLY hope they bump up the NA deployment of this thing since EU got worked out. Doubtful, but would be nice to compare stores/issues. I am also secretly hoping it somehow fixes the slow download speed issue I'm having.

Maybe you're talking about something else but if not, why even post in the thread if it doesn't even concern you? Strange....

Check his post history and you'll understand why.

Is it me or has the loading become much faster since yesterday? The UK store feels pretty snappy to me now.

Urgh.

Just got the new store.

The one use I had for remote play has just been murdered by it. You can no longer use the store via remote play.
That is a fail Sony. For fucking shame.

They need to work on remote purchasing/queueing/downloading of content now. I wouldn't even mind if it was as simple as putting those things into a queue for the scheduled automatic download feature either.

Would a web based PS store that allowed you to send a signal to your PS3 to download stuff appease your disappointment with remote play being broken?

In short, yes.

A mobile app would be good, I'd even pay a few quid for it.

Really disappointed they fucked this up.

I'm still amazed at how bad these sponsored sections look/are a pain to navigate.

If you must use tiles, they should be tiny, like this
screenshot_2012-10-175ij1j.png

not like this, where you're only navigating less that half of the available real estate. Add in the judder produced by loading in new images, and it doesn't even look like they tested it at all.

hopefully they add in alternate views like the old store

I guess this is why Sony didn't just wait until PS4 to update the store. They figured they could iron all the kinks out now and by the time PS4 drops they'll just have to add new features.

Speaking of which, how do we get the store to look like this on the sections? i can only get this style with the main area's like Games, Movies and TV

Come back from work have only 2 and half hours to relax and try to start up uncharted 2 multyplayer couldn't some sync issue, then tried this new psn store, I spent a ton of time fiddling with this bullshit new ps store wat the fuck.

fuck this new backwards psn.

With this new store being released so late into the cycle, do you think it is any indicator of when we can expect to see next gen?

It's fucking ridiculous they cut down the amount of items you can view to 9 (or 6 if there's a header). Can't quite get my head around how even a single person thought that would be okay.
