Sony reveals new PSN store

I just read a few tidbits on the net and why the hell do people state that usb keybords don't work with the new store?
it's straight out not true. Just plugged in my Wii keyboard (yeah i'm dat weird!) and it worked fine on the search.
just strange that it still scrolls (fast) throught the single letters, but that fixable.

Yeah even guys in here were saying that USB keyboards didn't work, which was always false (and corrected). The USB keyboard support in search still sucks though, because there's a period (was 6 seconds at launch, down to about 2 seconds last time I checked) between keystrokes where anything entered will be completely ignored. So at launch you had to wait six seconds between every keystroke when using a USB keyboard with the search function. It was still semi-retarded the last time I checked with that 2 second delay.

The only reason you go to the trouble of hooking a USB keyboard up to your PS3 is so that you can type shit quickly without having to wait for anything, so any enforced delay in keystrokes defeats the entire purpose.

Is the option to post your purchases/downloads on Facebook available in the new Store? Can't remember it ever asked me to do so, while the old one always did.

Eewwwwww .... never seen that .. then again I never connected my PSN account to my old facebook account.

I haven't gotten the option to share on FB ever since the new store launched so I'm guessing they either forgot to implement it or it wasn't ready for launch.

So I'm exploring the UK PSN store again and this time I want to find add-ons for a specific game (Hyperdimension Neptunia/Mk2) however I can't seem to find what I want.

Use search: Only get to see the Game with the only option to add it to the cart or look at the screenshots.

Go to add-on section: ALL add-ons are displayed, click filter by single player and sort A-Z... it all looks like a mess with some game add-ons being displayed at the top while others for the same game are somewhere down the list.. Makes me wonder what bit of the name they are sorting by (the name of the game, the name of the add-on or what...)

Go back to the sub-section of the add-on menu to see if there is something more specific and all there is... is "Latest" (obviously won't be there) "Most Popular" (again, obvious), "All Add-Ons, season passes, map packs, etc" but nothing to view all add-ons of a specific game.

In the previous store, it was still hard to find but I was able to find something to view all add-ons of one specific game but I have found nothing here. Is it not possible? Because if so, I just wonder who decided that would be a good idea when there is also 1000s of add-ons on the bloody store.

After doing a Firmware update i just remembered my UK account so i checked the new store.

It looks cool and it was funny how some of the game covers are integrated in the background (though it was weird since it goes off center when you highlight the option to buy the game.

Why are latest games, etc pics at the end after all that scrolling?

Going through the entire buying process for a demo was lol due to how many steps

The whole thing needs to be faster (initial startup was ridiculous, subsequent startups are still too slow, loading the items could be faster than what it is now, the old store kicks the shit out of this one speedwise currently)

The search is interesting but i could see why some would want the OS keyboard back due to the scrolling

I checked out the new store on my UK account and prefer the old one. It was simple, easier to read and find stuff. This new xbox look is too noisy. And we don't even get full background art anymore.

I honestly have no idea. The organisation is terrible. It wasn't great on the old store but at least it was possible to find things.

The fastest way to find specific add-ons (ironically) is to search for the game itself under the Games section.

Once you reach the Neptunia game page, its entire list of add-ons will be there to scroll through.

Sony needs to fix this asap because i don't think anyone will search for an add-on by its actual name.

So is the new store running OK for Yuropeans?

I'm not from Yurope, but the UK store feels pretty snappy to me.

IMO, it was a terrible idea to make this in HTML. PS3 browser engine is just not up to task. You need a really fast computer and a really good browser for these kinds of interfaces to work well enough when done in HTML. Especially for something that you're supposed to use repeatedly, and not just visit once or twice to experience it.

Completely disagree. Netflix is built with HTML5.

True, but this way Sony will likely use the same store design on PS4. How it performs on the PS3 was probably seen as a worthwhile trade off.

As its ps store update day im finally trying out the store for real....feels awkward man. Too much junk on screen, and to make matters worse the store isnt even updated yet. These past two weeks the update has been late.

Netflix is running on a custom port of WebKit so isn't using the PS3's browser engine.

Do you know for a fact that the PSN store is using the PS3 browser engine rather that a port of Webkit like all the other video apps?
Because last time I checked, opening up the PS3 browser was a seamless experience which takes all of 1 second, without it needing to reset the HDMI connection and all that shit.

Is there a place that has all the content released this week on one screen? not broken up into games, dlc, demos?

No, that would make too much sense. You have to go to each separate section to see the latest content

Mind you, the update doesn't even seem to be up yet.

Speeds have increased a lot since before. Takes a few seconds to boot up the store and navigating is much faster. It's faster than the old store was for me by some distance

Still a pain to find things though. Might be fast, but organisation could use huge amounts of work

Is it not? Bought Killzone HD a few hours ago

Content isnt even appearing. Click on a banner and i get taken to an empty store page..

Its like sony doesnt even want my money anymore

I belonged to the (small?) group of people that had no issues with the old store. Generally, whenever i visited the store, i knew what i was going to buy/try so the "what's new in this week's store update" page was awesome. Granted, it was a bit disorganised once you left the "what's new page" but it never bothered me.

The new store is a big step backwards in that sense. As a visitor, there is no real option to check out the last store update on one page. You've got to visit different categories, use filters,...

Also, there is the "what's new" frontend page which is not related to the new content at all and then there is the "new releases" frontend page in the games menu which is related to the new content. It's all very confusing to browse and understand. It doesn't help that in a lot of pages, you can't see the release date.

The only thing better with the new store is the game page itself where add-on's, videos, trailers, avatars,... are all directly accessible.

Please, Sony, bring back a proper "what's new in this week's store update" page with everything on there (themes, avatars, demos,...). If not, then this will only result in me buying less because i can't find it/can't be bothered to look for it.

Am I (not) seeing things or did SCEE remove the Movies section from the EU Store?

I can still see movie content on the main page, but there is no movie section anymore in the menu. I've only got

Latest
Games
Apps
---
Download list
Redeem codes

Is it like this to anyone else in EU? (Italy here)

Edit: nevermind, I restarted the Store and the Movies section is back in. Odd.

I never had a movie section, but then again, never had it on the old one either. No one gives a shit about Portugal.

Amuses me that they have streaming for films on PSN now, but you still can't view a trailer without downloading it first. Why not just integrate them into the game's store page? Weird.

Bug/issue with the new store.

It disables HDMI-CEC input, so you can't use your TV remote to navigate. I loved that feature - I would flick over from TV to PS3 to start a download, and be able to quickly flick between TV/PS3 to check on download progress. All using my TV remote.

I hope this is just an oversight and it gets fixed in the next firmware update.

I didn't say the store used PS3's browser engine; just that Netflix uses a custom port of WebKit.

I set the Sports Champions 2 demo to download and had to go through the whole purchasing process (multiple steps: add to cart, check cart, cost summary, download list, activate background dl...) to do so. Horrible.

It seems faster than when it was first launched, but my main problem with it is the confusing layout and how hard it is to actually find what you're looking for.

yeah its a little faster to use, booting up still takes millions of years.

but its still a nightmare trying to find all new releases. Why did they ever get rid of the "New this week" selection is beyond me...

the store slow startup speed and horribly confusing selection makes me spend less money in it thats for sure.

Anyone else find that the Vita store on PS3 is dead? It doesn't seem to load at all for me.

Navigating new releases is still a nightmare. I went looking for the free Tokyo Jungle DLC but couldn't find it. I'm baffled that no-one in an important position within Sony saw the laughable amount of issues with this design before they decided to launch it. They have to be losing a lot of money over this.

Anyone else find that the Vita store on PS3 is dead?

So the Vita store is in the same condition as the Vita itself?

Seriously though, I guess they'll iron out the kinks going forward, as the store still hasn't rolled out in the US (aren't there also some EU countries that still are on the old store?)
