Sony reveals new PSN store

It's a little weird that when you redeem codes it still goes trough the old store. Not that I'm complaining, but still.

Everything is just way too big. I have eyes that see fine. It looks like when you set the PS3 to 480p and all the text is gigantic on an HDTV. Once again, the sponsored sections are by far the worst, notwithstanding the slowness/clunkiness.

The amount of content shown on a single screen is not much different than the old store, though, except I guess when it comes to listing all the content.

I dont like the idea of the checkout system. Let me just download.

I wish they would add new things like being able to write reviews for ratings you leave. That would be REALLY helpful.

And I wish we could see the actual score of ratings like we used to. And I wish it was in yellow, not white. Same goes for purchased content. Why is it in white like everything else? Important info like that should be in proper bright colours.

Sucks that you need to keep the cursor on the video for it to stream, I wish I could shift through the same pages, at least.

Go to the PS+ (or any sponsored section). 6 content blocks at most and they're cramped towards the bottom. With the old store you could view the entire block of content (up to 20 icons) on screen at once.

The new store is terrible, it's slow and I still can't figure things out. I normally get one or two things but I've actually stopped buying anything because of it.

The old store had all new stuff in one section. It just seems more confusing now.

Isn't it under "All New Releases"? I'm seeing every game/avatar/dlc/theme etc. released this week in one spot.

LittleBigPlanet Karting is up too for some reason. I thought it was coming out next week?

Checking out the new store

Okay, one gripe:

Some of the graphics are too egregiously in-your-face (especially for the "Hot New Arrivals" and "Hot Deals")

And a majority of games no longer have dedicated pages that list all DLC etc... So have fun figuring out if you have all the content you wanted from a specific title.

Tried out the UK store. Found it to be crap and difficult to maneuver, and it can't even keep a steady framerate. I guess I'll get used to it but the old store was fine. I guess now they can sell more ad spaces on that bitch.

I don't mind the new UI, and the search is really intuitive... I just wish it wasn't so damn slow. It seemed to take about 5 times as long as usual to redeem a code, and just loading up the store takes ages.

It's cool that you can break down exact number of content released this week by price, system, genre, etc.

Yet another massive overreaction from GAF.
Some of the things which I really dislike about the new store:
  • Takes 35 seconds or more to launch.
  • Crashes regularly, forcing me to XMB quit.
  • The "Games" section will regularly (currently about 80% of the time) refuse to load and just show a horizontal loading bar thing when I click on it. The only way to fix this seems to be to quit out and enter the store again (which takes forever, as established above).
  • To see all of the new content released this week I need to separately look up Games/Demos/Add-ons, Themes, and Avatars. Previously they were all listed together and no store trawling was required.
  • USB keyboard search support is awful, with annoyingly long delays between keystrokes.

In comparison, the old store:
  • Didn't look quite as nice.
  • Didn't have all DLC grouped with the game.
  • Didn't have filters.

Didn't want to create a new thread for this: is anyone having issues with PSN? It's been 10 minutes and my PS3 is loading my friends list very slowly. Like 5 people per 90 seconds.

bad frame rate on the store...give me a fucking break!! This must have been designed for PS4 or something. Actually Sony's movie store's beta also had terrible frame rate

I like the look of the new store, but I'm not crazy about how slow it is.

I've used the old store for thousands of transactions, so this will take some getting used to.

New store up in US.

Japan and Asia is where you wanna be if you like the old store.

I'll have to check out how US did the category organization. The UK/EU organization is a serious disgrace.
It'll also do well to minimize Vita recognition even more than it already is, shoving it off down on the bottom of a list nobody will scroll down.
Like a shady back room of a store.
  • Customer:"Hey, where's the Vita games?"

EU PS Store employee: "Oh, those things...all the way back, in the back room behind the curtain."

    Customer: "Uh...alright."

Customer: "Hey, sorry to bother you again, but where do you find the new releases?"

EU PS Store employee: "What? Everything's just thrown on the floor."

    Customer: "Not even any categories?"

EU PS Store employee: "Is there a problem sir? I will have to ask you to leave."

Customer: "This new 'store' is a joke."

Or for games:
  • Customer: "Hello, I'm looking for the DLC for a game along with a game that came out a few months ago on the PS Store."

PS Store employee: "NEED 4 SPEED MOST WANTED. BUY IT NOW"

Customer: "Um, I'd rather not. I'm just looking f-"

PS Store employee: "Check out the Call of Duty or FIFA sections! Yes, they have their own sections but basic things don't! Hell, they don't even include all content for those franchises that's on the Store."

    Customer: "Are you okay?"

PS Store employee: "BUY METAL OF HONIR WARFIGHT AND ASSASIN CREED III NOWWWWW! We pretend our exclusive Vita AC doesn't exist either."

Customer: "I don't think those games need any more advertising. They will sell. How about you guys give spotlight to actual PSN games from developers that don't have AAA budgets behind them and need their games seen by the customer? Ones that will start dropping off your service if you keep giving games for free and only putting AAA in everyone's face? I think I'll go now."

I'm guessing SCEJ opted not to update? That really is the professional thing to do in my opinion. The new store is not professional.
Really happy if they don't update. Even little things like the opening jingle and sound effects are symbols of the PS3 OS at this point, changing that by making a new store takes away a lot.

This new store is terrible man. freezes almost everytime I try to log in.

almost killed my ps3....started bipping for a while, what does that mean?

I don't like how I can't tell if I already purchased an item already. That info was useful for PS+ stuff.

Or it's not telling me that info correctly

Finally, it doesn't look like complete shit anymore. Its actually attractive.

The old store was a cluster fuck and hard to navigate. Don't understand how anyone could've liked it but opinions.

Man, LOVING this new store in the US. Looks great and makes me want to explore new stuff more. Only thing I don't like is how many clicks it takes to get something, even free stuff.

The previous Store had a very solid layout and structure. Simple. Categories and folders. The issue with it wasn't the design, it was the organization of the folders and categories by SCEA and SCEE. SCEJ aren't angels with their "unorganized new release dump" section, but everything else is very nice.

I'll take a look at how SCEA organized the new Store. SCEE's like I said before, is criminally unprofessional and disorganized. Though part of that is due to the bloated nature of the new layout and software. It's not seamless or smooth either.

Anyway, thank goodness Japan seems to be taking a professional "how about no" to SCEE's amateur, bloated, lowest-common-denominator friendly (or so they thought), focus-tested new Store.

Do you often confuse "Add to Cart" with "Download" or perhaps you regularly overlook the word "Purchased"?
