What does "heavy use" entail. It doesn't power off the screen does it?

Seems to fall into a lot of the traps Pebble was trying to avoid.

like the iPad, right?

smartwatches will never make it to my wrist for one simple reason: that place is already taken.

Honestly, I feel like for the last ten years watches have become more about form than function. They're basically jewelry for men, which is why I don't see these kinds of smart watches taking off until they improve the aesthetics.

edit: was just thinking about this model when I made the post. It was a very popular watch, considering how "geeky" it looked. Probably because digital organizers weren't available at reasonable prices back then, so it was truly worth it for the functionality. A watch that offered unique functionality would have a chance to make it nowadays, but would a watch that does nothing but offer available functionality in a less comfortable form factor be a desirable device at all?
Dissapointed. I was expecting this:

My smartwatch when I was in high school...20 years ago.

classic 90ies. the more buttons, the better.

i agree, but that didn't just happen in the last ten years.

It must be old man syndrome kicking in but i just find it absolutely fucking ridiculous that we need smart watches.

I still use a very nice pocket watch that given to me 20 years ago. But then again this clearly isn't marketed to me, i still own a flip phone and see no use for an iphone or whatever new droid phone is out.

That's totally fine, but you do realize that you are pulling out a device from your pocket and checking the time. Functionally the same as the smartphone people.

Hey man what time is it.
I don't know I need to charge my watch.

Said noone ever.
UNTIL NOW.
Actually... Showing my age here, but people did used to frequently forget to wind their mechanical watches.

Except if I get one of those, now I need to have two SIM cards, two phone contracts and two phone numbers. Yeah no thanks.

its kind of ugly
so what now? wrist cancer?
i kid
but jeeze with the surrounding ourselves with em fields all the time

But it clearly wants to be a watch. Couldn't you just make a normal phone that does all that and pair a lighter weight companion...hey wait.

I guess some people dont want both. I guess the person that would buy the smartphone watch would be the more active peron. Who runs/skatesboard and does other activities. Where one device would be better then two or when one doesnt want to have to worry about loosing their classical phone on the go. Also stealth photos lol.

I wonder, can you link up two devices at the same time with the bluetooth on your phone? I've got bluetooth headphones and if I bought this, would I be able to use the Smartwatch and the headphones at the same time?

You're right, it's probably been like that since pocket watches were first invented. But until about ten or so years ago we men at least had a convenient excuse for wanting to look pretty.

Looks like it's time to 'fess up :P

I can't see why not?
Oh right. I haven't really used bluetooth so I was assuming it was only capable of administering to one paired device at the time.

Also does anyone know it the old SmartWatch was any good? I assume with SW2, the price of SW1 will go down big time which might be nice for my student budget.

I think SW1 is a discontinued product, stocks are probably running very low. I very much doubt it will discounted as SW2 will come in at a higher price IMO.

My grandfather was a watchmaker.
I had mechanical watches when I was young :p

You can't recharge your 'smart' watch once you leave the house though.

Oh right well that deflates my hype for buying a smartwatch in general and the possible hype for SW2. Do you know the potential price bracket, by any chance?

what? a standard battery powered watch lasts 1-2 years.
3-4 days may be good for a smart device, but "amazing battery life for a watch"?

Watch geeks that spend hundreds or more on their hobby will buy automatic/hand-wound watches instead of quartz ones that have batteries that last 2-5 years.

i know, i wear an automat which keeps on going as long as it's on my wrist. so these suckers don't have a battery life and noone is used to charge his watch every 40 hours, because watches that actually are battery powered run for years.

then that's ok.... I guess.
but you should really step up to the 21st century.

So in the 21st century people strap ugly shit to themselves that really serves no purpose other than to provide functionality other devices you carry with you already provide. Devices that actually require the original device as well for full functionality? And you're perpetually strapped to a power outlet for yet another device? It sounds too good to be true!

We all want to live in the future right?

But seriously, step off son. Your churlish remarks aren't needed here. They're neat gadgets but until they're more aesthetically pleasing and provide additional utility that my phone doesn't already provide they're not for me. To each their own and all that.

Should've at least supported Bluetooth 4.0. While interested in smartwatches, I won't buy one for a couple of more years when they're out of the testing phase.
Android doesn't support BT 4.0 spec yet. its rumoured to be coming in 4.3 update so it'll probably be next year before its on any phone & smartwatch device.

How strong is the glass on these things? My watch accidentally clips doorways as I walk through them from time to time:lol

Also do these things have a wireless charging basket yet?

Corded headphones into a MP3 watch is like the dumbest idea ever.
