SOTC after-effect

Shadow of the Colossus was truly awesome and I finished the game in three sittings(when released).

When I think about it, there hasn't been a single gaming moment since that has rivaled that of any of the SOTC bosses. Not with any of the next-gen games nor the other big titles.

RE4 was a really, really funny(~enjoyable) game aswell as God of War but...

I don't think they ever offered moments with such a exhilarating feeling and awe as the ones we had in Sotc. Hearing the music really pump out while grabbing and climbing the biggest and most wonderfull creatures you ever seen.. It's something.

SocT was without doubt one of the best games this gen. the boss battles were truly unforgettable but I think that MGS3 produced the greatest monets of gaming. From the beginning to the end the game was fucking amazing, the whole game was so memorable especially the ending, which is the most touching and most amazing ending a game could ever have.

SOTC is epically melancholy and tragically mirthful. The game simply oozes atmosphere. If Hayao Miyazaki’s mind were a game it would be Ico and SOTC.

No, it wouldn't. I don't deny the subtle similarities in the art design, but alot of Miyazaki's work differs from Fumito Ueda's a great deal.

15 fps and muddy, swimming textures inspires awe!
:lol

I have to agree. The numerous grpahical glitches, iffy camera and clunky controls somewhat ruined the experience for me. Shadow was a good game but nowhere near the eye-opening experience ICO was in my opinion.

Yeah, I totally agree. There'd be way more going on in a Miyazaki game, it wouldn't be so chilled.

For me it was the other way round. i thought that Ico was an overrated pile of shit with one very good and very well implememted plot twist, whilst SocT was one of my greatest gaming experiences. Sure the game did have a terrible framerate but that didnt take much from the fascinating boss battles and a very nice ending.

For me, maybe it's Ico > SotC as an experience, but not by much.

Yeah, an after effect that both games left me with, is that playing most other games is like watching Jerry Bruckheimer movies after you've just finished watching something like "House of Sand and Fog". Entertaining, but empty.

it's a game that isn't for everyone. That's for sure.

however

Take into consideration how outdated the PS2 hardware is when judging this game. There has never been a game made that did what SOTC did. The music alone was easily the best music this gen. It intoduced a lot of new gameplay elements that were never done before.

Speaking of SoTC, EGM brought the online version up again on that SpikeTV show (GameHead).

Bryan (when asked what he's looking forward to at E3): Maybe the SoTC sequel
Geoff: PS2 or PS3?
Bryan: Ahh its 3, and its multiplayer.
