Soul Calibur 2 HD Online announced

I am totally ready to have any notion of me having been good at this game crushed.

Also, understandable but still disappointed about no version with Link in it.

Those that played in the arcade game remember the world conquest mode that didn't make it to any home consoles. They better include that shit. Makes perfect sense for an online version.

Oh shit, they SO need to add that as an online mode it would be amazing.

Well to be honest a WiiU version with Link WOULD be the only reason for ME to rebuy this game. Would be half the game its self and half nostalgia.... of which I only get WITH LINK. And besides that console exclusive characters where a big part of SC2.

Nah, I have nothing against a Wii U port, and wanting a Wii U port is fine, imho. What is not fine is making a request that we know is impossible (i.e. using a Nintendo character in a Sony/MS-certified video game) and citing the obvious lack of the character as a reason for not buying this game. Bah.

Personally, I did not care for Heihachi/Spawn/Link. Bought the game for PS2, and now that the memories are coming back, I cant wait to play with my past mains again....Cassandra, Taki, Mina, Xianghua, Talim, Kilik, here I come!

Nah. I still own my original copy of Soul Calibur II for Gamecube.

I also own a WiiU too.

What does that have to do with sales? Link would still make this sell enough on Wii U so it wouldn't be the least popular version.

It'd be nice if they released it on PC though, that way modders could add Link anyway.

Is it bigger or smaller thatn Mario had in TTT2 Wii U ?

TTT2 was a late port with Mario costumes and items. Hardly the same as the actual character's selling power on the fanbase.

The amount of people hyped for HD remake of this game shows how badly things went for the series after 2 XD

Not at all.

I like great fighting games. SC2 was amazing. So is SC5. 3 would've been good if it was released in an era that allowed patches.

4...well, I give you 4.

If they announced an SFA2/3 collection, I'd be just as excited even though I'm super hype for USF4.

This is literally the ONLY Soul Calibur game I enjoyed that I have played after this one.

This isn't the announcement I wanted. SoulCalibur II HD with Link on Wii U or even better, a "Super" SoulCalibur V is what I was hoping for. Oh well, DAY ONE any way.

I originally bought SoulCalibur 2 just for Link...but I stayed with SoulCalibur 2 for Cervantes. :)

I hope all the characters are unlocked from the beginning. One of my worst memories and losing all my save data in SC2 and having to unlock Cervantes again.

Oh, if Super SCV was announced, I would just burst out in happy tears.... that game deserves it.

I hope nobody is naive enough to think Link has a shot at being in a PS360 game.

They'll replace him with a character called Spanky and almost all the same moves. Instead of bombs he'll roll out tomatoes and instead of a bow and arrows he'll toss flowers.

I guess this is as good as any thread to ask regarding "port begging"

Does that rule seriously mean we're never allowed to say "I wish this was on <x>" or at least make comments regarding missed potential.

I can't believe there isn't a Wii U version for example, with Link.

Platforms were more important for me. I only owned a PS2 for a short period of time so all I had was the Gamecube and the Xbox. Link being in was super cool, but I just enjoyed playing on the GC controller.

I'm sure there were far more Nintendo fans who cared most about Link, though. Who could blame them? Link being in an actual fighter besides Smash is pretty cool.

It's just that Link was my most played character by a factor of infinity, because I gave 0 play time to all the other characters lol. I made it through the whole quest mode with him alone.

So yeah, this kind of news is rather disappointing to me. It also doesn't make sense since Link being a guest character in the game propelled the game's sales. Why wouldn't Namco take the easy money here?

Judging by this thread if third parties want to sell their games on Nintendo home consoles they have to add Nintendo characters.

This is so stupid, the GCN version was the best selling and clearly has some of the hardest nostalgia being an entry point into the series for many. If you aren't banking on it what's the point? I guess some people liked the other versions, that's fine then what's the point of putting it on PS3 and 360 if neither successor supports BC? Where's the next-gen releases? I'll still need to hook up a non-primary console. I have no idea why Namco bothered I'm not really sure why anyone else would bother either. Might as well port it to iOS.

Yes, indeed. SC3 had pretty good single player content but was screwed from the start because of balance issues.
SC4 felt sloppy, had no content and the online was the only saving grace of that barebones product.
SC5 is very solid, but has no content, the online is dead and there was way too much focus on character creation. Also, 3 mimics, 3 Alexandras and the DLC stuff with Pierre. Also, extremely short development cycle. Such a shame, I'm a bit bitter about this game.

The biggest upgrade over the Xbox version will be true widescreen of course, I need to see if I can modify the original at some point -_-

Game still looks pretty though

Wasn't the GameCube version of Soul Calibur 2 the best-selling version or is that just a myth? Link was definitely a huge deal at the time.

Of course, it was the same time when Zelda fans longed for a realistic Zelda and only had Wind Waker to look forward to.

Only Soul Caliber I've seriously played but I also mained Link on Gamecube so this might be a bust for me. Unlocking all those weapons for Link was awesome.

You better brace yourself: FGC developers will not be the most brave when it comes to jumping to next-gen, for good reasons. (With the exception of KI, but ...Double Helix) If you are serious in playing fighting games, you better hold on to your PS3/360 for a little while.

Yep, I love using him.

Looking forward to decimating Kilik nubs online.

There was something awesome about zweihander-type swords that got me into maining Nightmare in this game and then Siegfried onward.

I had a great 7-win streak in the arcade version years ago, not EVO-great mind you, but still an amazing feat for a gamer like me.

I don't know if i quite get what are you saying but this is a little different than port begging imho because it's a matter of a feature missing and that feature for obvious reasons can be only on a certain platform, i think that no one would beg for a port if in some dark and obscure way they manage to include Link in the 360/ps3 version.

SCII supported widescreen anyway. At least on GameCube.

Pfftt, I already have Soul Calibur 2 HD with Link.

That said, Namco is downright stupid to pass up easy money by not porting it to Wii U

It'd be stupid to think they didn't ask Nintendo about including Link/Wii U. To me this smells of Nintendo trying to safeguard their IP from any "misrepresentation". I mean Namco is making Smash and Link (two/three versions?) is in that. There was obviously a conversation about this.

I completed everything in this game twice, in two different countries. I'm down for a third.

Talim was god-tier in this game.
