Soul Calibur 2 HD Online announced

the people who will only buy it for link

guys this is one of the best fighting games ever made please think about what you're doing

And what made it so great for a lot of people was that Link was playable. Take that out and it looses a lot of appeal. SCII is legitimately a great game, and the fact that the new version of SCII won't have Link frankly makes me hesitate to buy it.

Namco should have thought about that when they made this announcement.

eh... I stopped seeing Soul Calibur as a fighter and more as a virtual cosplay simulator. so, no character customization, no buy.

Not only that but Nintendo consumers haven't had any history with the Tekken franchise. All of the Tekken games prior to TTT2 (at least to my recollection) were on the other consoles. The idea of "because TTT2 tanked, so will SCII HD" is both stupid and silly because Nintendo fans actually have history with SC unlike Tekken... SCII HD would sell better on that note alone (IF it is a boxed release, which I don't think it is by the sounds of things). If you want to make bank on the current consumer base, you make games/franchises that fans are likely familiar with. Tekken wasn't ever on the Wii, it wasn't on the 'Cube, it wasn't on the N64... etc. To expect it to sell any better than PS360 was nuts.

But I know that's not how the business people at Namco work. They don't care what the reasons were for TTT2 selling terribly (other than the Wii U having a small base of owners), it sold terribly and that's that to them. SCII on the Gamecube could've been a multi-million dollar seller and it wouldn't matter now if TTT2 sold terribly months ago. They still wouldn't put SCII HD on the Wii U lol.

First of all, Tekken was released on the GBA and 3DS prior to the Wii U version. Second of all, saying that "Nintendo fans don't have any history with Tekken," is dumb. They also didn't have any history with Soul Calibur before SC2 came out on the Gamecube and look how well that game did. Tekken Tag 2 on the Wii U was clearly the best version and yet it sold the worst.

If anything I'd chalk TTT2's poor Wii U sales up to dead online.....TTT2 is the kind of game you want to play online and no one will want the Wii U version because most people already had the game on the PS3 or 360. But that could apply to this HD version of SC2 as well. I guess the lack of an actual Nintendo character was also a reason, but I don't think Link would work as well in TTT2 since Tekken isn't a weapon-based fighting game.

Namco is making Super Smash for NIntendo and yet they won't give nintendo SC 2?

Wow what a bunch of assholes. I want the GC version of SC2.

also... This is so Necrid.

wait so no WiiU? wow...

How much did Juggle Tag Tournament 2 sell on the system? There's your answer.

Anyway... I dunno if I'll get this. I spent an absurd amount of time just using Spawn in the X-box version and the game itself isn't too amazing. I don't think it's a bad fighting game, but given the amount of hype EGM (at the time) was giving it, I wasn't too impressed.

Still, I completed the singleplayer story, so I guess there is some value in this over just getting SC5...

[edit]let me clarify here you're welcome to enjoy the game for whatever reasons you want, but suggesting that the game was only worth buying because of a bonus character seems to me to be completely mad. like you would legit spend $10 or whatever just to play as a character in a game that, without that character, you would not spend money on.

I don't really care.. I wanted to play as Link ones again :(

No it was so the tournament could be fair. People that played on Xbox wouldn't know Heihachi or Link, PS2 players wouldn't know Spawn or Link and so on and so on.

If you knew what you were doing, yeah. If I recall Necrid was banned too because they only allowed characters that existed in the arcade.

Necrid was banned because he was stupid. Sophitia and Seung Mina weren't in the arcade version either.

The cries for Wii U support are saddening. The cries that you won't buy this because of Link not being in are sickening.

Yeah man a REALLY good fighting game being ignored just because no Link.

Well.... by then he was the reason why I got the game.. I have to be honest about it.. The game is awesome tho.. Probably I am going to pick it up for the PS3..

I can't say I'm particularly excited about this. Just a little burnt out on being sold the same games over and over again. I know they're probably still working on Soul Calibur 6 and this just gives them some more money to play around with and strengthen the franchise...I just can't muster up much excitement.

I suppose Soul Calibur will be working its way back into the tournament scene then. That should help the brand a little. I couldn't care less about guest characters being included either.

The No Link = No Buy stuff is kinda sad. It just feeds more into the narrative that Nintendo only owners only care if a game is attached to Mario, Zelda, Metroid or Donkey Kong. Link was a great guest character, but Soul Calibur II is a great game without him or any of the other guests. Namco even went through the trouble of including all the Nintendo exclusive stuff for TTT2 and it apparently got no reaction. Which is odd, like what do people even want? It was a well done port with exclusives on a system that doesn't really have any other fighting games right now.

Wouldn't the most obvious reason just be to avoid a situation where Link player was against Heihachi player. Can't do shit.

This what I'm saying! The game is awesome enough without having the guest characters. I'm sad I won't be able to play Link or Heihachi but it's understandable.

No, those people are factually tasteless. Link was a piece of shit and easily the worst character ever put in a Soul Caliber title (which given recent characters says something). Not having that POS will only make the HD version better.

Broken character that didn't aesthetically fit the game at all.

I know it's already been said numerous times by now, but no Wii U version with Link means NO BUY from me.

I'm sure it can't be that difficult since it's just an HD port of an existing game. Namco must not like money.

Of course it seems every publisher these days is trying to find reasons NOT to develop games for Wii U.

Well yeah. Give me Link, and this becomes a pre-ordered/day one purchase. Take him out, and you're making me think about buying it. My experience with the game was the GC version, and what made the GC version so good was Link. Sure, Talim was one of my Main's, and I unlocked everything. And again, I think as a whole SCII is the best SC of the franchise, and objectively a great game.

But, Namco is selling nostalgia, and a part of selling nostalgia is making sure that you include what people are nostalgic about. For SCII GC owners, a large part of that is Link.

Hopefully, Namco announces a spiritual successor character to Link, named Nink or something. =P

Will most likely end up getting the PS3 version. I don't care that much about Link despite all my time being with the GC version.

Though now that I think about it a Soul Edge HD remake would have been quite something.

Well, I'm not really a hardcore fighting game player, although I enjoy them casually from time-to-time. The mechanical differences between the individual versions are mostly lost on me. SC2 is my favourite because Link was in it. I guess I have some nostalgia for the game as a whole, but mostly it was tied to that character. If I can't buy a version of the HD remaster with Link, then there's little reason for me to buy the game rather than, say, play Soulcalibur IV, which I already own.
