So i wonder if they were to go to war if the people of NK would see us as liberators (lol?) or as evil people taking away their freedoms or something, basically i wonder how brain washed they are from there government controlled news.
Starving people will warm up to whoever gives them food. The soldiers are another matter.

Still, any animal with it's back against the wall will bite.

This is the country that abducted hundreds of people, blew up planes, attacked SK multiple times,...and does batshit insane stuff with their own population in their gulag system.

It just takes one provocation and a wrong reaction to trigger a war... they don't even have to declare it as they are technically already at war.
There may be a difference between a cornered dog and a regime with an elaborate fiction holding them in power--a fiction which depends on their standing as "total world superiority A+ #1". Putting a significant stake of the world's most devastating navy in their backyard may shake some sense into the despotic attention whores.

Then again it might not. Depends on whether they're rabid or still just stupid. Even a stupid dog knows when to shut up...

North and South Korea are already at war.

I wonder who ordered that sub to sink the SK ship? How stupid was that?
What was to gain by that?

So NK already cornered themselves what else is left really?

“South Korea broadcast a pop song extolling freedom of choice and a warning on the dangers of overeating into North Korea, ending a six-year moratorium on propaganda in retaliation for the sinking of a warship…

The propaganda broadcast made on FM radio began at 6 p.m. local time yesterday when a woman anchor announced what she called the “voice of freedom.” North Korean listeners were regaled with a song by a South Korean girl band, Four Minute.

In the tune, “Huh,” the band sings: “When I say I want to appear on TV, when I say I want to become prettier, everybody says I can’t do it. Baby, you’re kidding me? I do as I please…”

They're playing KPop to the North now?! Shit son, if I've ever seen a justification for war it's that.

It's not, but I was kinda liking it by the end. I've seen some other stuff by them and they just have a good fun quality to them, which I guess is their job, so they succeed.

Wait, wait...

Hold up.

North Korea is pulling a bunch of sly crap, sinking ships and killing men,

and South Korea responds

with a K-pop song.

WAT

I overheard my mother watching the korean news a few days ago. The situation just continues to escalate. Outstanding.

This is probably a war that USA can enter that will be backed up by the majority.

If USA enter this war, don't you think China will do it as well ?

Even with international support, do you think the world can hold against China military might ?

As usual, North Korea will respond with the now famous " all-out war " slogan.

I guess North Korean just doesn't like music.

As much as China says it's North Korea's friend, if the US entered into war with them, I have a feeling China would just sit back. The US/Chinese relationship is far too lucrative and important to be just canned for war.

^^ You guys are silly the US never left this war, the war never ended we have troops in the DMZ

we are not just going to back off and run home when the shit hits the fan it wont look so good since South Korea is an ally... what kind of message would that send to our other allies?

Obama will be under great pressure to show he has the will to do the job or the republicans will cut him up.

Obama would HAVE to respond. There's 28,000 US troops within NK's artillery.

Yes, I think USA alone could best China quite "easily".
Since USA would bomb Chinas infrastructure and key installation to heaven.

... and china would return the favour and still have a massive manpower advantage as well as have the advantage of fighting much closer to home.

inb4 appeals to super secret american super technology saving the day over backwards Chinese weaponry.

What's the worst that could happen ? NK will never have balls to move against SK and only thing SK/rest of the world needs to do is place more sanctions for NK and eventually they will have no means to support their army and SK can just walk in.

Of course they have massive amounts of manpower close at hand, but USA could attack on several fronts using carriers + Japan as ally.

But of course, this will never happened because China will not defend NK, more likely the other way around to keep control of the country before USA and bunch comes.

One reason I don't think Kim would ever do enough to provoke a real battle. He's more worried about succession for his family and keeping a grip on the country. If all hell broke loose, he'd destroy Seoul...but his country and his rule would be over.

Not gonna happen.

We've been hearing this rhetoric from the north for over 50 years now.

The problem is that the army will be the last to suffer... the overall population will die twice before it happens.

True but then again we haven't cared about NK's civilian population before so why should we start to care now?

So are we on the verge of something big here?

I've been following the news on it, but I'm having a hard time gauging exactly how serious this is.

Why would China go to war with it's biggest trading partner over NK? A country that is doomed to fail. SMH at this GAF's armchair generals.

Most revolutions take place in summer, before harvest when food shortages are most limited.

The fact that NK is trying to return to a planned economy by restricting the market to regain some control lost to the provinces, could trigger a reaction. Depends on food supply (food relief for millions already low and running out) and on the military.

Yeah, while US is clearly number one super power when it comes to weaponry China doesn't have anything to shame. China has been developing lots of anti aircraft carrier missiles and they have successfully tested out anti satelite missiles. BTW doesn't China have world's second largest air force ? Or is it 3rd largest (still behind Russia)? China vs. US would be war that I don't want to see ever... And I probably won't. It would be lose-lose situation for everybody.

Because North Korea is Chinas buffer...without it China would soon have army bases, rocket shields, missile silos and everything else right at their door step.

I personally believe that a lot of the news from the Korea region comes from propaganda and false information. Really hard to tell who did what for whatever reason.

China has zero ability to project their military power outside of continental Asia, and their air force, while large, does pale in comparison to the technological and skill advantage the United States enjoys, and the same can be said for China's navy. Any war between the United States and China would represent almost zero threat to the US homeland (save for nuclear weapons), while the US would be able to conduct bombing operations against mainland China.

But as many have said, all of this is moot, because it's not going to happen, period.

No way China would enter a conflict. It would ruin everything that they have created since opening up. Talking about Chinese military might, it's not so mighty...

This is a ridiculous statement because South Korea have nothing to gain by spreading any false information. They're a successful country and the government does not really want to deal with North Korea at all. They don't want war, they don't want to be unified and have to spend unimaginable, impossibly huge resources getting the North up to scratch -- nevermind the problem of the unspeakable culture clash that would take place.

Well so far I did not see any proof about anything just accusations and warmongering - as usual in that area. I doubt that Kim-yong Il would risk a war between north and south Korea and I also believe that south Korea does not want a war either. The problem is who benefits most out of such situations? If north Korea wants war why not just attack instead of a alleged torpedo attack nobody can prove so far.

Until I see the bigger picture I give north Korea the benefit of doubt and hope that they are really not that stupid. A war would cripple the country beyond repair and I guess the "government" in north Korea knows that. So unless Kim wants to go out with a big bang and doesn't care for anything anymore I guess the torpedo could have been something else aswell - or from someone else.

It has been proven to be North Korea. It is, unfortunately, not unusual for North Korea to attack South Korea. See the airplane incident that occurred a couple of decades ago.

International and S-Korean reports both confrimed that it was indeed torpedo attack from N-Korea.

I only read that south Korea claims that parts of the torpedo they recovered look similar to a torpedo they illegaly obtained 7 years ago. They also claim that part of the letters on the torpedo are similar to letters north Korea often uses. That is not really that convincing in my eyes.

So basicly it could be a north Korean torpedo - who fired the torpedo is as of yet unclear. I guess it is quite possible that it was a north Korean submarine ordered to shoot - but not 100% sure I say.

Who else it could be ? Torpedo shot from a submarine near N-Korean waters. N-Korea or Somalian pirates? Or maybe it's huge conspiracy, Fox Mulder to the rescue. This isn't even the first time so I don't find it so hard to believe.

edit: and more was found then piece of scrap metal. "propellers, a propulsion motor and a steering section of a torpedo, a perfect match for a model known to be manufactured and exported by North Korea. " Whole investigation report is open so you can google it for yourself and read it.

The UN and the US seperately agree that the torpedo is from North Korea. Besides that... I'm sure we can agree that only governments have submarines. What government do you think sent a submarine in to fire a North Korean imitation torpedo?

If you don't accept the premise that North Korea fired the torpedo even in light of the evidence for it, things quickly veer into consipiracy theory land...

Fuck yearr man up South Korea, put those strategic geniuses to work,
spawn more overlords
and
zerg
rush them!
