So I'm finally in the gentrified part of town and these references are just so spot on. I was just looking for that SoDoSoPa kind of name. Poor poor people losing their homes and these are so hipster.
Why is gentrification bad? Because fuck the yuppie hipsters?
Uh, what? This SoDoSoPa thing has been going on for a decade +3 episodes on the same variation: "Millennials are laaaaaaammeeee". which was never exactly the most cutting edge of topics. First on their PC-ness (in a week where the candidates of one of the two political parties debated about how evil foreigners were and how women shouldn't have control over their bodies, a movement suggesting that maybe black people don't deserve to be gunned down in the street was being demonised, and a child was being arrested for being a Muslim), then a continuation of it showing characters' over-reaction to it, and then urban gentrification and hipsters.
Lampshading it with their surrogate old-person characters only cuts you so much slack.

no, If they are smart they will save that for the game
Point being, it ain't Millenials who are financing these things. They have neither the power, money nor influence to do so.And it's 2015. Which is a decade and a half into the millennium.
Kenny is the awesomest big brother.
Episode was sort of lost on me, but I guess those commercials of SoDoSoPa are somewhat like the real thing they have in the US? If so, yikes! That's extremely obnoxious.
Doesn't London have a problem with people being forced out of their homes by developers driving up prices of homes in the area? Not sure whether its because im from England but some of these episodes, including this one, have flown completely over my head, no laughs at all. I enjoyed last weeks because of the absurdity but episode 1 and 3 not much at all.
That's the thing, I have to imagine that Parker and Stone live in a SoDoSoPa style neighbourhood in NYC. So it's kind of weird.Point being, it ain't Millenials who are financing these things. They have neither the power, money nor influence to do so.
Notice on the show who's spearheading the whole shebang.
I'm genuinely ignorant of situations like this, but since Kenny's family still owned the land couldn't they have just sold their suddenly more valuable property? It seems unlikely that they rent, I doubt many landlords would allow their property to fall in to such a state.
Has it ever been implied that Kenny's family rents their home? If they did, it kinda seems unlikely that they'd have been able to afford it after the renovation.I don't think you've lived in shitty places before. There's plenty of landlords that don't give a shit about maintaining their property, so long as they keep getting the rent cheque each month.
I follow, it's just that this episode didn't have that happen. Given how this episode progressed Kenny's family shoulda made off like bandits. That's not the first step. The first step when property values go up is that property taxes go up. So they *have* to sell, and they have to move further away from schools, businesses, places of work, etc.
They weren't really tackling urban gentrification here so much I don't think- I see these things popping up all over the suburbs in my area, tons of small "walkable" areas with all the cupcake shops you could ever want. That's the thing, I have to imagine that Parker and Stone live in a SoDoSoPa style neighbourhood in NYC. So it's kind of weird.
In the same way it's hard to take some of the satire in GTAV seriously when you find out that one of the Hausers bought a 10 million dollar apartment in Brooklyn. lol
I feel they are describing downtown Long Beach with this SoDoSoPa.
I miss Cartman being a total sociopath and getting away with it.
Wouldn't be as effective.
They are, but this stuff is mostly just restricted to the Pike. It's kinda weird that you have to drive all the way to Belmont Shore just to get to Whole Foods, but at least the have the nice Vons near 3rd and Lime. I doubt any of that gentrification is gonna fly all that well up on the North side, or as they're trying to call it now "Virginia Village".
Seriously, they could have come up with a better name than "Virgina Village". I'ma stick to calling it the North Side.

Given how much the GG folks seem to *love* this season "calling out SJWs", I'd hope that if they were going to do an episode on GG, that they'd wait until the very end of the season for maximum effect.
Glorious. Matt and Trey are pretty good at passing around the turd sandwich and making sure everyone gets a bite. I see some anti-anti-pc stuff in the future.

SJW = Social Justice Warrior = term originally used to refer to self-centered jackasses who use progressive causes as an excuse to be assholes. (This is basically the PCU guys in Ep1) Reappropriated by conservatives to refer to literally any progressive, making it near-useless as a phrase in casual conversation since deciphering which of the two versions you mean is often not possible without massive amounts of context.I'm sorry but I don't know what GG and SJW is. Can someone explain?
That moment with Kenny and his sister was great - a real surprise too.

So stunning and brave
have to admit I hadn't the foggiest what they were getting at with the sodasopa thing in the latest episode but it was funny.
Have to say I have a feeling the final episode is just going to be bat shit crazyand PC principle will be killed off by cartmen in a sick way
I don't know if it has been mentioned yet, but it looks like there won't be a new episode this week.
;_; but why?
I miss Cartman being a total sociopath and getting away with it.
He's playing the long game. The end of this season has got to be something apocalyptic.
So they don't get burnt out. They've done this for the past two (now three) seasons, airing 3 to 4 episodes then taking a two week break.
