Southland - Season 5 - Wednesdays on TNT

Another great episode. This season has been so good. On my short list of best shows so far this season. I love the way they work comedic bits into this show among all the heavier moments.

I liked the (possibly unintentional) juxtaposition of Dewey and Ben this episode- Dewey comes off rough, and can be an idiot, but is generally a good guy. For Ben, it's looking like the inverse- on the surface he's a clean cut stand up guy, but underneath that he's turned into a huge scumbag.

Love the whole backstory stuff with Coop and Dewey this episode. All they had to show was Dewey's burnt leg and then Dewey saying, "So how many times do I owe you NOW?"

I dunno. I just love this show so much. Just the style, writing, and all around phenomenal acting just really make this show. I've been on this stuff since season 1 and I honestly think it's just as good now as it was way back when Ben shot that guy in the first episode.

ALSO, for people judging Sherman-- yeah, he's a scumbag a little bit now, but it was cool seeing him still struggle to forgive Coop for not having his back a few seasons ago.

I think Sammy would rather fight to the bitter end then lose to a scumbag like his wife, she ended up being trash like the people he has to deal with in the streets.

Sherman is getting a little annoying most fake good guy on tv. It could be awesome if he ends up making detective and become tv's next Vic Mackey.

Did anything happen after the part where they were digging up the bodies? My DVR cut off the second Lydia turned around.

I think Sammy might kill himself. He's depressed as shit now.

I actually thought that was how the episode would end. Looked like he was ready to end it right there.

That was an absolutely outstanding episode. Best of the season. Coop and Dewey are amazing. Dewey's daughters!

The guy in the bathtub, fuck! The woman with the dildo and the reaction was hilarious.

The final scene with Lydia was tense as fuck and acted superbly from both. I love that the show has no music. A lesser show would've played something over that scene and ruined it.

One of, if not THE best show on tv right now and nobody watches it. I do not understand it at all. Pisses me off.

Has there ever been this good a show with so few viewers before? Even The Wire had more people interested in it than this.

It does not even get Emmy nominations for categories like drama, writing or acting.

yep forgotten because it does not have that one or two star, compelling characters that people relate to as some of the other big shows. It is a true ensemble and sometimes hard to connect with the masses, people want to connect with someone.

Damned shame, they know not what they do, missing this!

It's so fucking depressing. This show needs a huge headliner episode. I think if they did an episode about school shootings, that really hit the mark (which it most likely would), the episode and show would get a lot of attention and maybe even some award recognition.

.....they just essentially did one.

Watched all 38 episodes over about 2 days. Just.. wow. So glad I decided to check it out.

Really hope it goes on for a while.

HOLY SHIT

Why isn't this show in Netflix, I have friends that want to watch when I tell them about it

wow, good episode.

Cooper, he is so nice at times. Loved how he stuck with the woman that was under the bus.
Then he took care of the aging LEO who was all wasted.

Was interesting how Sammy just quit the car chase. I figured it was because he did not want to die due to him having a child. Thankfully Sammy didn't go-after the craze guy who ended up dying due to the dog bite. Wasn't expecting the dog to appear, lol.

Would love a gif of Sammy looking at Ben during the first part of the episode. It was like a "What are you doing" type of slant-face reaction. Would tell somebody the time/scene but my DVR did not record this episode. DVR schedule conflict.

Such a good show. I have no idea how this is never even mentioned come Emmy time.

I really think that these next couple weeks could be just off the charts awesome. I feel like they're building to something big.

Cooper needs to bang his married partner ASAP. That's some hot latino there, Coops. And he said "nothing gives me a rise these days." :wink wink:

Also good episode yada yada scarred for life with that bus girl yada yada.

Good episode as usual.

I was surprised Sammy apologized for bailing on the car chase, he did mutter its too dangerous. I thought police officers would let a guy go and catch them later if they thought it was too dangerous to continue.

I hope we get a serialized detective case, I am getting a little tired of the simple case that gets solved in 1 day. They seem to barely sweat over cases, they almost solve themselves. I would like to see Lydia get pressured to solve a high profile case that last 2 or 3 episodes while trying to take care of a kid at the same time.

The cases are intentionally not serialized, while their day to day lives are. (The Tang storyline, for instance, wasn't about the case.)

I know that.

My little complaint was sparked by Sammy saying one of the reasons he went back to patrol was because one of his cases was about a women who was shot in the head and they had no evidence or leads and when he went home he was thinking about the women that was shot, and on patrol at the end of the day he does not have to think about work anymore.

Lydia is having a little trouble raising her kid but the job seems to have almost no affect on her when she gets home, which is odd because in previous seasons it did.

So amazing. I actually teared up a little with Cooper hanging with the girl under the bus.

Coop makes the show for me, it could just be about him and I'd still watch it religiously.

I thought a "187" meant a drive-by shooting. The suicidal guy shot and killed his parents, and Ben called in a 187. Am I missing something?

It's a shame the show she's heading to sounds very lame and generic, but those are usually successes! So hopefully she gets the recognition and success she rightfully deserves.
