Madrid (AFP) - A porn star has been arrested on manslaughter charges following a man's death during a mystic ritual in which he inhaled psychedelic toad venom, Spanish police said Wednesday.

Nacho Vidal was detained last week in the southeastern Valencia region in connection with the death of a man in July 2019.

The toad, a rare species which is native to the Sonoran Desert, stretching from northern Mexico into California and Arizona, secretes venom containing a very powerful natural psychedelic substance known as 5-MeO-DMT.

Its effects have been compared to ayahuasca, a powerful hallucinogenic concoction from the Amazon consumed as part of a shamanic ritual.

Following an 11-month inquiry, police arrested Vidal, one of his relatives and an employee on suspicion of manslaughter and crimes against public health.

Something isn't right there. I don't think you can die from inhaling the toad produced DMT. unless he didn't dry it out or something.

Also it isn't "like" Ayahuasca. Its another form of DMT.

I don't think it can be deadly on its own but there may have been intersection with other things.

Deaths from 5-MeO-DMT are rare. However, as a powerful monoamine reuptake inhibitor (MRI),[9] injury can occur when excessive doses are taken or when taken with substances such as MAOIs, RIMAs, stimulants and anything which act as a releasing agent or reuptake inhibitor of neurotransmitters such as serotonin and dopamine. This has resulted in well documented deaths[10][11] that could have been otherwise prevented.

Are they sure they got the right toad?

I wanted to kill myself after a few tokes of some strong weed.

I read the article, but after seeing the Toadstool gif, I'm starting to take it literally. Like I know what allegedly happened but the word Toadstool is bringing up a different image in my mind.

I tried Ayahuasca once and got completely wrecked. At first, I felt an extremely intense euphoria, almost spiritual, loving everything and in between, vivid clarity, mindfulness, strange evocative images, but when it wore off I felt mad levels of stress, guilt and anxiety. It was similar to ecstasy only way more extreme. Fuck that shit.
