Spartacus: Vengeance |OT| - The gods are ready to spread the cheeks

Damn Glaber is the boss among bosses at being a villain, hot damn. Just two weeks ago, I hated him for being such a pussy.

Also, Ashur cleans up well, and for once, I actually liked his character in an episode.

I hope the show is performing well enough to warrant another season, the writing is just too good.

It already got another season before Vengeance even aired. Plus it was also revealed that a very important character in this story will not be in this season (hence another one should be in the works).

Something dawned on me after tonight's episode. Gannicus is Doc Holliday to Spartacus' Wyatt Earp. Gannicus is a loose canon, Spartacus is the man with a cause. Westerny as it is, I can't help but love those types of story arcs. Really intrigued how those two end up dealing with each other and how their actions play out in getting Gannicus to believe in Spartacus' cause or not to believe in his cause. Either way, Gannicus is a badass, can't get enough of him.

Great episode. Gannicus brought some much needed tension to the rebellion (and made Spartacus relevant for a good 30 seconds. Bravo). Glaber has finally grown into his big boy villain pants, and Ashur is remaining interesting and ambiguous.

And, I have to say, Lucy Lawless has really been impressing me with her acting chops in this series. Her Lucretia strikes a nice balance between deranged, harmless and calculating. One of the best actors on the show.

And I missed the first 20 minutes of the show, so I just have to ask:

Did I miss any sweet Agron/Nasir moments? The gay fanboy in me must know...:(

That scene with Ashur's men killing everybody was gruesome. The details in his eyes as he was choking to death made me squirm.

Ashur has upped his game yet again. He's becoming more than a worthy villain.

Ashur's hit squad. Damn.
Gannicus wall jump. A call back from episode 1 of GoA
They r showing so many stories in this one episode from the different characters that it kinda slow down the middle
Noooo Gannicus don't go.

My score 4/5

Wall jump? Sparcy's slow mo sword switch up was fairly impressive as well.

I honestly think anyone who thinks this is an objectively high-quality show, or one of the best shows on TV is not using his head.

Why can't we just enjoy it as a pulpy, well-produced porno without resorting to hyperbole?

It's not "good" by most other standards. The dialog is childish, the exposition is sometimes insulting, the acting is often melodramatic, and the plot is simplistic at best and cliched at worst. There's no need to pretend it's an undiscovered gem. It's titties and blood, which doesn't need much else.
Bullshit and you know it.

every actor and character in this show has style, depth and personalty.

Except Spartacus. I don't know if it's the actor or the script, but by God he bores me to tears when he's on screen. He is out-shined by everyone else on screen. Everyone.

Yeah, it's hard to say whether it's really just the new actor or simply just the way the season is playing out. Also I am kinda hoping that Naevia will also be offed this season, the new actress is just fucking terrible.

The new Spartacus is a wise leader and the only thing he does is leading his men. There's no drama around him this time, no conflicts; therefore all he does is speeches and fights. Unlike almost every other character in the show, he simply doesn't have a chance to shine.

This show is just on another level now. Even in my top shows, there's a ton of scenes I have to 'tolerate' to get to the good stuff. There's almost none of that here. Just so fucking perfect, and has exceeded every expectation.

It's not the writing, the actor playing him just has no range. In hindsight, Whitfield was multi-faceted, and offered up a fairly nuanced performance, even for a show like this. I miss him.

Show keeps trucking along with another great episode. Glaber and Ashur's Terror Squad is gonna make for a BADASS fight against Spartacus and Da Homies (+slightly unwilling Gannicus). Finals scenes were just merciless.

Yeah, this is so full of shit. If the show never showed another titty or another drop of blood it wouldn't damper my interest in the least. I've watched almost every top rated/well critiqued show out there, and I'm able to separate gold from shit. Yeah, superficially the sex and violence are draws. If you can't see beyond that, it's your own fault, not that of the show. There are so many underlying themes it explores, which are executed incredibly well. It's pretty pathetic that you're so hubristic as to impose your own opinion as gospel, call the show a porno, and insult everyone who sees the quality past the sex and violence as morons. That's the definition of trolling. From what I've GAF has is really picky when it comes to TV/movies and most people here are incredibly cynical and have high standards. People wouldn't be praising it if it didn't truly deserve praise.

This makes no sense.

Okay I really don't like the new Naevia , the actress and the character. If crixus wants to kiss you , you be thankful for that opportunity.
we need a spin off series with just lucretia and ilithyia theyre definitely my favorite characters

God(s), Glaber is such a fucking BOSS now. But I fear since he's achieved major bossness, he is not long for this world :(.

Awesome episode, a little shocked that they showed one of Ashur's men killing that kid. Takes cojones.

I just want to see Spartacus, Crixius, Oenomaus, and Gannicus fight alongside one another fucking shit up. Hopefully that's not far off.

Damn...

Ashur & Glaber are picking up on Batiatus' slack this season.

Except for the foul mouth. I miss hearing batiatus swear.

I agree. I'm not sure what to attribute it too, it would be difficult to see the current spartacus as the crazed on from the first season. This season he's more solemn.

About Glaber from tonights episode (not sure about the spoiler policy)
It was quite a swing in the last 2 episodes from "At least i'm not trying to fuck your sister" to pretty much "After I kill you, I'm probably going to fuck your sister"

I think new Spartacus is fine - he just doesn't really have the opportunity for lighter moments like Andy did (mostly with Varro). Gannicus seems to be helping out with this though.

I did like the Ashur/Spartacus contrast shown tonight. Spartacus went from Glaber's worst soldier to the House of Batiatus' best gladiator, Ashur went from worst gladiator to Glaber's best soldier. They even did a similar beatdown on a Roman guard for Glaber.

YES! I'm so glad Glaber finally snapped. That's what I'm talking about, Glaber/Ashur duo is gonna be nasty.
And Ashur is keeping that snake braclet as a future insurance/leverage policy I assume, haha he's slick.

Holy shit at kids getting stabbed to death.

Is this on Netflix or Hulu or something in the States now? I hate waiting for Sunday night HBO/TMN airings in Canada.

Tell me, how does it feel to be so wrong?
