Spartacus: Vengeance |OT| - The gods are ready to spread the cheeks

I'm going to miss watching Illythia bathe/get naked every few episodes.
I actually thought that some of the slaves were pretty good looking this season. (like the one who was the first to be crucified)

Kind of sad that they didn't get more screen time.

Oh yeah, for sure. The old Naevia was fucking HOT. With her I could understand Crixus going mental looking for her. Diet Naevia wouldn't even put out for him until like episode 10 or something. She was not worth a trip to the mines.
Because women are only good for making out or their looks, right? Jezus christ GAF, can you act more dumb?

Watched the finale yesterday. It was not bad, but it was not S1 good either. I care nothing for the actor who plays Spartacus so that does not help either.

All the interesting characters are now dead, except for Gannicus and Crixus, although they were not nearly as good this season.

Still good entertainment though. But now i realise the thing i loved about the show was the Ludus and arena-fights. Now that they're in the wild its just a normal action show.

Will watch the next season though.

what the hell does her looks have to do with anything................

Ah wonderful Karma.

Mad that she tried to upgrade her career? What sort of role expansion could she have reasonably expected in Spartacus that could help her future career? Considering the delay in filming the new season and how minor her role was anyway...and considering how minor the role continued to be in Vengeance, it seems like a good bet if she was forced to choose.

CSI = significant role in a prime time show on a major network. It's the kind of opportunity you work for. Too bad it didn't work out, but let's not be blinded to the reason why she took it. "karma" is a really selfish, shitty way of looking at it.

Brandt once posted this:
"An update! As it stands today, no agreement has been made & I am sad that we couldn't make it happen. My role as Naevia was truly an amazing adventure and a joy to portray. I hope Starz is able to come back & allow me to complete Naevia's journey....on screen chemistry like Manu's and mine does not come along often. Starz and the production team have been wonderful to me & I wish them every success with the show."
Doesn't sound like someone who ditched Spartacus.

She only signed on to guest star in CSI:NY. Afaik, she never signed a contract to become a major character or anything.

just got done watching the finale!
jupiters cock, the last 20 minutes was crazy i was at the edge of my seat!
i feel like going to the gym now and do 1000 pushups thats how pumped i am after the finale

Just finished watching the S3 finale...

Not bad, but I agree S3 was definitely the weakest season. The problems I had:
- The new Spartacus felt more one-dimensional. I blame the writers more than the actor. But Spartacus this season was 99% the perfect hero. He was at all times honorable, respectable, and completely idealistic. on the other hand, Andy-Spartacus was all kinds of shades of grey. He was impulsive, isolationist, and conniving. Yet S3 supposedly takes place only a couple of months after S1, yet Spartacus has transformed into St. Spartacus. Giving idealistic speeches every 5 minutes and being the constant mediator. Frankly his character was boring this season.

- Frankly the slave rebellion just wasn't as interesting as the arena battles and politics from the previous seasons. Also the odds against the slaves seemed insurmountable and their end-game was never really clear. Maybe that was the point, but it was hard for me to get invested in what they were trying to accomplish.

- Pretty much all the interesting characters were on the roman side and they kept dropping like flies. The gladiators and slaves with a few exceptions were mostly bland and expendable. I like Onameous but he was a broken man for pretty much the whole season. Gannicus was probably the best because he behaved liked the Andy-Spartacus would have. Not very idealistic, but super loyal to his closest friends.

- As others have said, the new Naevia never really fit. I thought the new Naevia was hot, but she just felt too different from the original character. They mis-cast the replacement.

- The finale was just too predictable. I saw every death 5 minutes before they happened. And Naevia killing Arshur was just ridiculous. Even with Arshur toying with her, I'm sure he would have the good sense to kick her sword away before giving her the death blow. But whatever.

Honestly while I enjoyed the season, I think they should have just ended the series with this S3 finale. They killed off all the interesting characters. Part of the reason this season fell short in my opinion is because Battiatus who was such a strong character was no longer in it. Now there's even more dead so the new season will rest entirely on new faces.

I guess I'll root for Gannicus even though he was a dick and poked Onaemous' wife. He's the only interesting character left on the gladiator side (and probably the entire show since the Roman side was decimated).

I do like that this show isn't afraid to kill its characters. But it also means can't have a 4-5 season show...lol

Finished the finale. Not much to add to what has already been posted but I really liked it. All of the death scenes for the major characters were very well done. The actor that played Ashur was amazing to the very end, love him.

Hoping the side characters from the gladiator side get a little more time devoted to them next season and I'm excited to see what the new villain will bring to the show.

I agree but I think the political manipulation by the Romans is what the show great which is why Asher should have stayed alive. He had that ability to be intriguing.

I always feared the loss of Batiatus would hurt the show because John Hanna gave a superb performance.

Nothing against the new Spartacus actor but I really miss Andy :( He was perfect for this role.

But I really liked this season. Probably the weakest of the 3 but it was still really damn good. I was hoping Crixus got to kill Ashur...the new Naevia was complete shit.

I wanted to reserve judgement until the season was done, and now that it is, I have to say that I'm incredibly disappointed. Like to the point where I don't think I'll watch the show anymore.

Everything was much worse this season. The scheming and plotting were shallow and simple, the characters sucked (even formerly great ones), the writing and dialogue were boring, even the action was weaker than S1/2 because of dark murkiness.

Did the writing crew change a lot this season? That's the only explanation I can think of for such a drastic drop in quality.

Yep, I finally watched ep10 and I think I'm done with this show.

The head smashing/slicing/burning and whorehouse trips for the sake of showing fucking people, the "present setup up for ZOMGSHOCKINGTWIST and have it happen this episode or the next" intrigues, the lame fights and boring costumes ON TOP of worse acting for top characters, nah. Not worth it anymore. The good stuff (which is still really, REALLY great) is buried under too much shit.

This episode's "big battle" was so dumb. Roman sentries are trained to always look in the wrong direction, huh? Who'd guess that attackers might come from outside the tent area? Yeah, lets have the slave army descend the mountain without a sentry noticing them and take the Romans unaware, then kill dozens/hundreds of them* and storm their HQ in a couple of minutes.

I'll cling to S1+1.5 on bluray and rewatch that every year or so to get my gladiator+great acting+violence+intrigues+sexy ladies fix instead of waiting for S3.

*only implied, though, can't have as many fighters on-screen as the end fight in the ludus had in season 1, lol.

He did, in a lot of ways, remind me of a paragon Shepard

this season is really good. don't know what you guys are talking about. they killed off the right character. ashur is a cunning guy but i'm tired of seeing him already and killing him off is a good thing. dragging him into another season would be terribly too long. i don't like it when shows pull your strings like that (shows like dexter, etc.)

the only person i think they should have kept alive for aonther season is doctore. he supposed to be really strong but it seems like it get his ass whoop by almost everybody in the show. plus i really want to see more bond developing form him and gannicus.

i think illythia running after her son into the cliff would be a good end for her too. beside that, i think this season can easily top the first one and the prequel. the phase for this season is good, it doesn't gets bored too long with all the talks and enough action where it keeps you on your toes.

it seems like the writer and director for ths show find the right balance. so i shouldn't be too worry about next season 3. i'm sure it will still delivers.

edit: oh yea, the new spartacus is not bad. he did a good job replacing andy whitfield(which means a lot coming from someone who refused to watch season 2 until one month after the show ends.)

from what i see, this spartacus= more civilized and andy-spartacus= more aggresive. both are good.

The real doctore died during this battle though.

The show is still good, but it was missing just a bit from the last season. Most of my points have already been made by others in this thread, but I want to say again that they messed up with Naevia. She was just not that believable of an actor. All she seemed to be able to do was make her eyes wet, and look like she is having a hard time taking a shit. Every time she was on, I cringed.

Yeah she was annoying as hell, and to let her kill someone as awesomely evil as ashur sucked in retrospect. He deserved a better ending. I never cared about her story nor felt she was connected to the previous nevia.

yea, i heard. but this is a tv show and not a history channel documentary. they can pull whatever they want.

it will be nice if the director suprised everyone by letting the slave rebellin army overturn the rome empire, kill casear and win the war. cause at this point, everyone expected the rebeliion going to get put down and this show is good doing that(shocknig everyone.)

What do you guys think the subtitle for the next season will be? I was thinking Spartacus: War, or something along those lines would be cool.

Also Naevia's face annoys me.

I'm pissed episodes for Vengeance can't be found for sale on PSN or Amazon. Makes me want to rage. I missed nearly the whole season.

I watched up through episode 5 I think during the Starz free preview weekend. I wish I could buy the channel without signing up for a 2 year contract. Waiting on the blurays sucks.

TJ Scott directed a few(?) episodes of Spartacus, and he's also working on a coffee table book titled "In The Tub" as a benefit for breast cancer research. There are a bunch of pictures up on his Flickr feed, and it includes a few from the Spartacus cast. *marginally NSFW pics via the link*
