The effects were interesting for a fan film.
Everything else was awful, especially the dialog.

Really?Someone spent 2+ years on this?...
People hate Spawn? Why? He's one of the coolest looking comic characters.
I didn't until this.Yo dog I heard you like Spawn, but have you ever wanted him to be Spiderman?
Well you are in luck.

That HBO show left a... Hell of an impression.

I don't want to say it was bad, but MacFarlane won't be remembered for his writing. The HBO show was fucking amazing. Season 3 had some faults though. The cartoon felt like the ultimate incarnation of the character and his world and McFarlane took a step back and studied his creation and said "Okay, this is where I fucked up, this is something that could be more interesting, and now I don't have to worry about appealing to kids or selling toys." and made something fantastic.
Still waiting on the 2nd animated series. Every other year or so McFarlane say's it's coming, he just needs to pick the animation studio and nothing happens. Now he says a new movie (reboot?) is being made with Jamie Foxx as Spawn.
Edit: I finished watching the short. It seemed pretty aimless and why was it set in a supermarket? The effects on Spawn were pretty good but the voice was kinda' bad. Just felt pointless.
Thankfully that was shit-canned. It was pretty terrible (shocking, right?).
The Spawn comic kinda' got rebooted 2-3 years ago with a new guy as Spawn and Al Simmons goes out in a truly classy wayHe blows his fucking brains out for no reason and a new guy is Spawn.
Really didn't care for it much at all. Spawn's voice was really shit, too. I get that it was probably someone's buddy doing it for free with Adobe Audition, but still.

They tried to imitate the Keith David voice and just didn't work.
Obligatory clip from the cartoon.
BTW, the entire series is on Youtube... Just saying...
Robert Kirkman was the other creative force so he shares some of the blame of that.
Kirkman has his own issues, he really fell off with making Invincible repetitive as hell. Remember when he was going to save comics?
I really like the idea of Spawn although I know next to zero about it except for the 90's movie. The short was meh. I could maybe go for the tone though. It seems like an interesting character (or at least concept) that's a shame to waste, maybe I'm wrong.
Walking Dead is good again? I haven't read it in over a year and the new antagonist just came off as Governor 2.0 and Kirkman trying the old "two fathers" angle.
Fan films are terrible. All of them. Even the ones you like.
