Speculating Wii U's upcoming release schedule

I think there will be a direct this month to announce the release dates from June until August. That will clear most of my speculations up.

I'd be shocked if we got Zelda this year. I've lived through enough Zelda releases to realize new mainline titles never come out on time. Particularly with this one's ambitious scope, spring 2016 even seems like a tough target. I would love to be wrong and play it sooner though.

April: Project Giant Robot*
May: Splatoon
June: Yoshi's Woolly World
July: Project Guard*
August: Star Fox episode 1
September: Mario Maker
October: Xenoblade X
November: Zelda
December: Smaller E3 announced title in the vein of Captain Toad

*eShop only

The key is having Mario Maker for the 30th anniversary of Super Mario Bros (September) and Zelda in November. Everything else gets tossed in the air.

EU incoming schedule

march mario vs dk and mario party
april nope
may splatoon
june nope
agust nope
september kirby and art academy
october xeno
november devil third
december mario maker
january yoshi

Speaking of F2P we've got Project Treasure most likely coming this year.

Wouldn't be surprised if Pokken makes a December/Q1 Wii U release date too.

I totally forgot about Project Treasure, but honestly we didn't even get a proper trailer much less a screen shot for the game at the last direct.

Lots of "retro studios surprise game" and "retro studios wii u project"...and once they announce Donkey Kong Country Returns: Krool Intervention GAF will shit on it :-P

Cant wait for Zelda...I need vacation for November/December to play this game :D

Again, this perception needs to go away. It was just Twilight Princess, and that was 10 years ago. And it was delayed specifically to boost sales of the next system at launch. The last console Zelda, Skyward Sword, released exactly when they said it would.

Nintendo needs a big game this holiday, & let's be honest, Star Fox isn't big enough to fill the void (even though I am still hyped for it). On top of that, TDLink brought up a compelling argument on the subject.

I can see a big Gamecube remaster being released at the end of the year, as well. Thousand Year Door or F-Zero would be the ones I would welcome with open arms, personally.

Yoshi and Mario Maker will probably come out late summer, early fall. Star Fox and Xenoblade will be holiday releases and Zelda will be delayed until next year (it has occurred to me that next year is Zelda's 30th Anniversary, so they may hold on to this game to do something special for its release).

They're not going to delay Zelda Wii U just for the 30th anniversary. It's the big holiday game.

For the 30th anniversary they can always do Hyrule Warriors 2 (which seems pretty likely at this point). They can also just do a nice DLC/Expansion for Zelda U.

Here´s what i think

March - Mario Party 10
April - Nothing
May - Splatoon
June - nothing
July - Nothing
August - Mario maker
September - nothing
October - nothing
November - Zelda Wii U
December - Star Fox U

Yoshi - Feb 2016
Devil´s Third - May 2016
Xenoblade - June 2016

====================

I mean, can we draw some comparsion to 2014?

What did we had in 2014?

Donkey Kong in February
Mario Kart 8 in june
Smash in november
Captain Toad in december

Four games. I really dont think we should expect more than five for 2015.
Even more considering that its already mid march and we still know next to nothing about release dates

The problem with comparing 2014 and 2015 is there were a lot of games announced jn 2014 they just didn't make it out the door. Xenoblade X has been in development for 3 years now it releases in Japan next month. It seems like a given it will finally come out this year.

Yoshi's definitely coming this year, as is Xenoblade X (the game is coming in April over in Japan, September is a plausible release month for the game in the West). Plus Star Fox U is supposed to come out before Zelda U, so there's an October title right there.

You forgot some games of 2014, among that such big games as Bayonetta 1, Bayonetta 2 and Hyrule Warriors.

June 2016 for X is absolutely nonsense. Xenoblade X, Splatoon, Devils Third, Zelda and other games has been announced by Nintendo for 2015 already multiple times.

2014 Wii U releases in North America (Nintendo Published):

Wii U Fit (Jan)
Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze (Feb)
NES Remix 2 (Apr)
Mario Kart 8 (May)
Pushmo World (June)
Hyrule Warrior (Aug)
Bayonetta 2 (Oct)
Super Smash Bros. U (Nov)
Captain Toad Treasure Tracker (Dec)

2014 had more than 4 Nintendo games. Overall it wasn't a horrible year for 1st party games.

Based on the games we know are coming I have been thinking about when they will release games for the rest of the year. I have complied my list below:

March - Mario Party 10
April - Nothing
May - Splatoon
June - Xenoblade X
July - Nothing
August - Yoshi Woolly World, Devils Third
September - Mario Maker
October - Star fox Wii U
November - Zelda Wii U
December -Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem

Where are you putting that Next Level Game at?

Club Nintendo closes at 6/30/2015 ... we can expect at least a month to grab the mewtwo codes ...so 2 big Nintendo DLCs in may ! =O

Ok, there were a lot more than 4 wiiu games in 2014

Even so... nintendo is taking too much time to give release dates.

Funny enough, the only game i dont fear will be delayed is Zelda

Revealing release dates "late" isnt exactly a new practice either. Wonderful 101 got a release date a month before release. Most games nowadays are getting a release date anywhere from 1-3 months before launch it seems.

They might want to avoid announcing delays like they did with DKCTF.

Is this a good thread to speculate for a new Direct? I started a thread for pre-Direct hype but it was closed.

So if you have rumors or wishes for a new Direct, let's speculate in this thread further.

I think there will be a direct this month to announce the release dates from June until August. That will clear most of my speculations up.

Eh, probably. I'm guessing a direct next week is when we'll have some more solid dates for games releasing 1st half of 2015. At the very least, some dates for Yoshi and Splatoon (and info on the amiibos for them).

Yoshi and Splatoon dates would be great and a new eshop game would be nice.

Predictions:
Direct by the end of the month
Splatoon release date/amiibo info
Mario Kart DLC sneak peak. Maybe packs 3 and 4?
Mewtwo in Smash release date. Maybe DLC but I doubt it.
Star Fox trailer
Zelad U is still coming out in 2015
n3DS regular coming to USA

My predictions for the next direct, assuming it's this month and post-Mario Party:

Definitely
New info/trailer and release date for Splatoon
New info/trailer and release date for Yoshi
Splatoon Amiibos announced and detailed
Smash Amiibo Wave 4 release date given
New trailer and/or release reminder for Xenoblade 3DS
New trailer for Xenoblade X (probably story focused)
Mario Kart 8 DLC Pack 2 overview
Mewtwo and other Smash Bros content release date
Surprise eShop release either after the direct or in April, potentially Project Giant Robot

Potentially
More Third Party 3DS game localization announcements (FF Explorers, Great Ace Attorney, etc.)
Smash Amiibo Wave 5 announced
Paid Smash DLC (beyond Mewtwo, Miiverse Stage, and Tournament Mode) announced

Unlikely
Mario Maker release date
Devil's Third release date
Star Fox revealed with a trailer
New Zelda footage/trailer

Yoshi and Mario Maker will probably come out late summer, early fall. Star Fox and Xenoblade will be holiday releases and Zelda will be delayed until next year (it has occurred to me that next year is Zelda's 30th Anniversary, so they may hold on to this game to do something special for its release).

They're not going to delay Zelda Wii U just for the 30th anniversary. It's the big holiday game.

For the 30th anniversary they can always do Hyrule Warriors 2 (which seems pretty likely at this point). They can also just do a nice DLC/Expansion for Zelda U.
I don't think there will be anything going on for the 30th anniversary of Zelda. I mean, they just celebrated 25th anniversary a few years ago.

As for the above Direct speculation, still holding out for N64 games. Maybe another HD remaster of some sort to round out the Wii U's schedule.

Someone mentioned a new Paper Mario on Wii U. That would be nice, too.

March - Mario Party 10
April - Nothing
May - Splatoon
June - Xenoblade X
July - Super Mario Sunshine HD?
August - Yoshi Woolly World, Devils Third
September - Mario Maker
October - Star fox Wii U
November - Zelda Wii U
December -Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem

This would be an impressive release schedule indeed, if nothing gets delayed (as many here, I fear for Zelda and Star Fox in that regard).

The only thing I'd prefer them to add to this lineup is that rumored remaster. Why not have that be Super Mario Sunshine HD in July? Would be an ideal summer game.

It was closed, but the Direct got announced the next day lol

It was two months ago, so a new Direct may be happening very soon

Intelligent Systems are too busy with Fire Emblem If, Project STEAM and possibly FExSMT to be developing a new Paper Mario game :(

STEAM is done and FExSMT is mostly being handled by Atlus based on past interviews. IS is never working on only one game at a time, they're a pretty busy studio. I would bet they are doing something else other than the next FE that hasn't been announced yet.

I've lived through ALL of the Zelda games (old enough to buy them) and I'm trying to think of when Nintendo has announced a release date and then delayed it. I think OoT may have been the only one, but they never give firm release dates on any Zelda games so I'm not sure if we should consider these "delays." They said Zelda Wii U will come out in 2015. Doesn't seem unrealistic at all given every Nintendo system had a Zelda within the first two years. ALttP in 91, OoT in 1998, The Winder Waker in 2003 and Twilight Princess at the launch of the Wii. The Wii U has been out for nearly three years so it's a bit silly to think Zelda would be delayed into year four.

I would be happy for a new paper mario game, but dang it I WANT ADVANCE WARS

During the STEAM roundtable at E3 last year they said AW wasn't dead, so it's possible we'll see a new one in the near future. It's their only franchise that hasn't had a game recently.

The last Advance Wars came out in 2008. Since then we haven't seen a new game for Wave Race, Star Fox (announced now), F-Zero, and Mother.

I would still love an advance wars game though. That would be a great launch game for the next handheld system.
