Spider-Man: Homecoming trailer 3

Too much MCU in my MCU Spider-Man, can Sony go back to making non-MCU Spider-Man movies? It's clearly the best option.

"This is my chance to prove myself."

"But we have a Spanish quiz."

Man, that dialogue is just perfect.

I think the love for high school Pete comes from Bendis' Ultimate Spiderman which is real good.
And the fact we've spent what 10 minutes in high school with Peter across 5 movies.

I really don't get the love for Ultimate Spider-Man. It changed way too much stuff for my taste(looking at you Ultimate Green Goblin).
I grew up with a married Spider-Man. Would love a movie based on the Renew Your Vows comics.
I think adult Spider-Man is way more important to the franchise than teenage Spider-Man.
It's sad to see the Spider-Man that I grew up with being replaced with teenage Spider-Man.

The trailers look like small time kid as new Spider-Man given first costume by Iron Man. You make a 6th movie of anything in this sort of time frame with subject matter that barely shifts it is going to get exhausting. It's compounded by other movies released with the same genre over the last how many years. Like I say, it's my fault I've just totally aged out of this. If I was even in my 20s I'd be really excited for all of these and it is nice seeing the universe of characters and films being built.
You totally missed Peter doing Spider-Man stuff in civil War, didn't you? He's been at this for quite some time now, this is anything but an origin story.

Don't get me wrong, I'll see this at the theater or most likely at home but I'm just not feeling this trailer or any of the previous ones. Can't put my finger on it exactly. Sorta feels like been there done that to me. Idk, maybe I'm just not a huge Spider-Man fan.

Too much MCU in my MCU Spider-Man, can Sony go back to making non-MCU Spider-Man movies? It's clearly the best option.

I mean fair enough if you are not a big MCU fan but for me, it's great. I love the interactions between the characters. It's a live action comic book, so having these characters meet up, fight or work together, makes it feel more like the comics than the movies that exist in their own little bubble, separate from each other.

Also the last few Spider-Man movies have hardly been fantastic, so I'm down for Marvel to have some control over it, Sony clearly needed a hand making a decent Spider-Man movie and they made the right call doing the deal with Marvel.

I thought Garfield was a spot-on Peter Parker, but shit this kid seems perfect. It takes me back to when I first started reading Spider-Man as a kid - like that's how he always sounded in my head.

It's fine to have that opinion but it's one of the most beloved comic runs ever.

It's sad to see the Spider-Man that I grew up with being replaced with teenage Spider-Man.

That isn't a thing that's happening.

While Tobey Macguire spidey will always be the best to me. I'll probably go see this just cus I'm a spidey guy at heart, well at least when it comes to marvel. Plus it looks pretty good.

I get where you are coming from, not exactly thrilled to see so much Stark there myself. But we had 5 big Spidey films without MCU already so it's okay to switch it up abit.

He's fighting his first supervillain and is "learning to be a hero" and all that stuff. It's an origin story minus the very beginning.

"The very beginning" that usually takes up somewhere between 45 minutes to over half a super hero movie...

That's a lot of extra time that gets to go to more interesting stuff.

Ultimate Spiderman is Spiderman, for me. Then again, I grew up with that version and it was the first series I would go out and buy trades for. Adult Spidey is the weirdest thing, always seems off. Spiderman as a teen, juggling crimefighting with high school, being the hopeful unproven kid foil to the older veteran Avengers/other heroes...no other portrayal comes close to getting to the core of the character

90s cartoon Spidey is a distant second place

My man.

We're not at such point. The MCU team just drank their own Kool-Aid.
Spider-Man is more famous, yeah but you know full well what the poster is saying and how its tied to box office revenue. That definitely holds up as an argument.

I mean, they're in this position because they made two bad Spider-Man movies. I would be shocked if this was worse than AMS2.

Also, we don't really know how much MCU is in this. I'd wager Stark's scenes are few-and-far between and he's there like 'fucks sake' a few times but the only other MCU reference is that Vulture and his crew seem to be getting their tech from harvesting the sites of Avenger's battles (most likely NY most of all). I mean, I don't really have an issue here. Yeah, they could opt to not have Stark in but for all this bad shit to be going down when he is literally in the same city is a bit... weird.

I just don't see the logic of assuming it would be better outside of the MCU just for merit of being outside the MCU.

We have never seen Teenage Spider-Mam really, the best we got was the Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon. People clamor for teenage Spider-Man for a reason. Plus the audience will be mostly teenagers or people close to that age alomg with everyone else.

I started reading Spider-Man 5 or 6 years before the first issue of Ultimate Spider-Man dropped and quickly tracked down the earliest trades I could find. I'd implore any USM fans to check out the first fifty or so issues of Amazing Spider-Man, they do more for the character than every issue of Ultimate Spider-Man combined.

I like how even when Peter Parker is mad at Tony Stark, he still has to remain deferential to him and call him "Mr. Stark".

And by like, I mean hate.

I had a discussion similar to this with a friend the other day. I'm in agreement with you that Spider-Man as a teenager growing up while struggling with typical bullshit plus the added weight of being a superhero, whereas he prefers Spider-Man being an actual man. Couldn't convince him.

The very first comic I ever read was the USM Vol.1 trade that my mom bought for me when I was like 5. So yeah, Ultimate Spidey is my Spidey.

Ultimate Spider Man is great and is a good example of keeping the heart of a character/world intact while changing a bunch of the details within that world

Same here.

I recommend people actually read the original Spidey comics over the decades and truly understand his growth over the years as well as the characters around him.

No, just no.

My comment was a parody of people who keep bringing up Tony Stark being in this as some kind of issue, I thought I made it clear I was being sarcastic but I guess not. lol

I've read the first 50 issues of Amazing and it's fantastic, holds up like I hoped it would. But I also started reading Spidey with Ultimate(I was lucky enough to read a reprinted Amazing Fantasy #15 as my very first) and his characterization and growth in that is just as good. It's because he was in high school the whole run while still constantly doing his absolute best to be a hero that I fell in love with the character. It really made me appreciate Spider-Man's appeal, and his need to leap into action always, because of that one time he didn't. Plus Bendis was at his best, I dare say I preferred his characterization of Pete to anyone else's. Ultimate Spidey is my Spider-Man too
And come on, you can't tell me Venom's Ultimate origin isn't better than 616

"Lmao the president is kidnapped and you're going to tell me Captain America just sits on his ass?, pathetic Marvel"

"This guy is attacking New york in the new MCU Spider-Man movie and Iron Man does his fucking job? For fuck 's sake Marvel, stop calling it Spider-Man. This is Iron Man 4!!"

Gotta say I really like Vultures design.

Looks loads better than the bald scrotum he looks like in comics.

I think the love for high school Pete comes from Bendis' Ultimate Spiderman which is real good.

That + Spectacular Spider-Man, which is arguably the best representation we've had of Spidey outside of the comics

I'm gonna be that weird guy who mentions the 2003 Spider Man Animated Series that was on MTV, I think

Peter being in college is always great and NPH does a great job as Pete/Spidey

also the art is pretty cool, decent action, the soap opera stuff is done well, etc.

worth a watch and I personally love it

Yeah that was the best cartoon no one watched

I watched 1 min of the first...too much new footage. Don't want to spoil.

I'm there day 1 one though. I'm hyped now.

I remember the intro being 2000s as fuck.

Yes it is. Look at how immature Peter has been written since they retcon the marriage.
It's clear that the writer's at Marvel wish that Peter was still a teenager back in high school.

Spider-Man was only in high school for the first 28 issues so you can hardly call that the core of the character.
Seeing as how he's been an adult for most of the history of the franchise adult Spidey is closer to the core than teenage Spidey.

It's funny you say that after talking about how much you like teenage Spider-Man.
The 90's cartoon Spider-Man is 19, is an adult, and is in college something that you will never see again in a Spider-Man cartoon.

Bruh I thought I was the only one who appreciated this show. I think I saw the tail end of it because it wasn't on the air after like two weeks from when I first saw it.

I eventually managed to watch at least a majority of it somewhere.

I loved that shit outta that show. MTV's Spider-Man & Spectacular Spider-Man are the default Spider-Man cartoons. I'm still really salty about Spectacular getting canceled & replaced with the crappy Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon, it veered TOO far into the comedy angle for my liking. Hope the new show coming this year is good!
