Splatoon 2 runs at 60fps, 1080p

On the showfloor stations it is definitely 1080/60.

It looks crisp and beautiful as all hell.

Also the paint and materials look eons better than on Wii U. I wasn´t expecting a visual upgrade, so I am shocked and extatic about how it looks.

Good to hear!

Could still be using dynamic resolution though, but just hearing that it's most of the time at 1080p is good news.

And I mean, a dynamic resolution isn't bad in the sense that it shows the devs are prioritising performance above all else in this case. Given the sort of game Splatoon is, I imagine such dips would be quick and short.

Oh shit, NICE! I really hope that Nintendo does a firmware update soon that ups the resolution on their screenshot function. I know they were gonna do a video recording upgrade later on but having that plus better screenshot resolution would be great.

So you're confirming this based on what your eyes tell you or something more scientific?

I'm happy to eat crow here. I didn't think they'd still be running everything at 720p so close to release unless that was the final resolution. The low res, jaggy look was the one real blight on the visuals of the first game, so this should be a nice improvement even without considering the lighting and other upgrades.

Watching the last stream of the Salmon Run, the higher polish, resolution and production values are evident. It looks beautiful.

Considering It already was 720p on handheld months ago, don't surprise me they got 1080p docked. Good news anyway, MK8 become a lot better graphically thanks to the resolution bump.

This game is gonna be a stunner. Both on the big screen and on that crisp Switch screen.

The testfire used dynamic res, and it very rarely hit 720p undocked.

Figured this might be the case. I noticed that the latest screenshots have had vastly improved IQ over the earlier stuff. Nice to have a confirmation.

How did Mario Ody look to you if you got to play?

Very glad to hear that.

I took the testfire with a grain of salt, but some people here went fucking nuts over that. I can understand that the resolution was bad, but it was obvious that Nintendo was going to polish it up, especially since it's a big key title now.

hard to tell since stream was 720p, but jaggies from the testfire on the models when squids are on equipment or results screens are not noticable anymore, jaggies were noticable even on stream of the testfire

Will DF conduct a new analysis of the latest builds?

The entire Direct/Treehouse stream was at 720p, perhaps to compensate for all that bandwidth of people watching.

Wasn't it dynamic 720p in handheld mode?
I believe it was, but DF said it spent a lot of time around 540p or so.

About DMO and XBC2: Nintendo seem to be prioritising completely locked frame rate in their demos over visual fidelity, such that Splatoon 2 was 720p in the testfire but 1080p in the end product. I think the same is probably happening with those two games (in fact, the developer of XBC2 even said they were working hard on polishing the game), so I do expect those to be at least 900p when they release.

This is great. Splatoon 1 had real issues with slowdown when it gets hectic, and the motion controls work particularly badly in that situation. Solid framerate sounds great.
