Splatoon developer explains reason for lack of voice chat and more

and we can ask Nintendo why not doing it like this (even disabled by default if they want and ask parental code so it can be activated if there is one) but going crazy like some are doing with Nintendo hate posts or constructive posts like "won't buy the game because of this" or "Wii U is doomed because of this type of behaviour" is useless.

Asking nintendo to implement a feature that's an standard for this kind of games from like 7+ years ago is "wanting them to become another sony" ? Ok.

You need to reevaluate the way you think and your relationship with Nintendo. You bias is clearly influencing your posts negatively.

Last time I checked, Mario Kart is not a team based shooter. Jesus Christ, talk about false equivalence. And then you deflect by bringing up something totally unrelated.

Sonic and Sega all stars racing transformed has frigging voice chat. MK shoulld have been had voice chat
 
I know when I play multiplayer games I usually do not stick around unless there is a good community to play with, and that always involves some sort of chat.
 
I can't remember the last time voicechat was actually useful. It's either dead or full of assholes.

I dunnno though, at least implement it for friends list only or something.
 
What some people need to realize is that it might be too late to complain about the Wii U and its games, but complaining now will likely make Nintendo reevaluate their stance for their next console.
 
I can see how people would be upset by this, but I also think it should not be more than a minor annoyance.

I play monster hunter 4 online more than any other game online and I've been able to adapt to no voice chat there as well even though it's a very intensive online experience.

This is all about individual tolerance and for myself, it really isn't a big deal at all.

For those who feel this kind of feature is an absolute must, vote with your dollars.

Splatoon was designed around no voice chat. It was actually their first idea. Making a shooter in 2015 without any voice chat whatsoever would take the industry by storm.
 
For me it's impossible to even thing about playing online with friends with a console and not being able to just talk with them.

It's 2015 not 1999 people. Voice chat is a standard today for multiplayer games....for fucks sake voice chat with friends is a MUST HAVE today for multiplayer games.

Seeing how there's people defending the lack of v.chat on this game is the reason why Nintendo is still on the 2000's speaking about online features. This thread is a "It's ok if nintendo does it" literally speaking.
 
So a system without a universal party chat is going to release a first party multiplayer game without voice chat. Not the smartest decision I've seen from Nintendo.

Gimped local multiplayer, no voice chat online, and probably a tacked on single player. Eh.

I'm gonna be the judge of that. I'm gonna try and get it soley for singleplayer but its obvious they built this with multiplayer first and foremost.

Not having proper Split Screen Local Multiplayer really kills this game for me. Only thing that can save it is if somehow two players can play online like in Mario Kart but that doesn't seem possible.

I never use voice chat myself and I play online games all the time, so it's a bit jarring to see the hubris coming from people who look down on others who aren't as affected by this news.
 
I can play online shooters without communication but I do use it when shit get real or when I actually want to implement strategy.
A team based effort and no communication is a terrible design choice because it is limiting the experience.
I can see this game getting a lower score because if this in reviews.

It's a team based online shooter, communication is kind of a big deal.

Everyone doesn't use a mic, but having people without mics in something like left 4 dead just ruined it for everyone else more often than not in my experience.
 
The straw grasping in this thread.

Look, I love Nintendo, have every console they've put out and hundreds of games.
Though at the same time, if you love something, you have to be truthful with them too.
Just being a blind fan and thinking everything they do is perfect is not the way.

They're just behind when it comes to online.
A chat system built into the Wii U, which allows you to chat with friends would be awesome.
Hope it comes out in the Wii U's life span.

This is what I don't get. The whole "You just want Nintendo to be like X company" often pops up when people suggest that Nintendo should adopt certain features. That's not the case. For starters, where were those arguments when Nintendo announced Amiibo's, which is something that wouldn't exist if they didn't follow in Activision's footsteps? The reality is that Nintendo saw something that they could make money off of and decided to do the same thing. So why can't they do that with basic game features? Voice chat in team shooters is a standard feature. That's not going to make them into Sony, it's just going to mean that they won't release a team shooter that doesn't have a feature that's been standard in the genre for years.

People aren't bringing this up just so they can dump on Nintendo or try to turn them into another developer. It's being brought up because it's pretty frustrating. Nintendo has made what many are calling one of the freshest shooters to come along in years, and yet we aren't talking about that. We are talking about them not including a basic feature in the genre. This game being a big success would be good for Nintendo, but also the industry as a whole. It'd show that there's is more to the genre than military shooters and gore. But Nintendo has decided to put a completely unnecessary hurdle in front of its ability to be that success. Will it be a big hurdle? Who knows. But it will be one as we see from this thread.

The frustrating part is that it doesn't have to be one. Everyone understands his point about how bad online voice chat can be. But that's why there's a mute function. That way friends can get together and have a good time playing and they can mute it whenever they're just playing with randoms.
