Splatoon: JP website launched

Looks like Nintendo has finally launched the Japanese website for Splatoon... well, almost, it's just one lone page for now.

There's a couple of interesting stuff in there, including the main theme (from the E3 trailer).

There's also some screenshots, though some of them have already been posted via Twitter:

That song. That fucking song. I adore everything about this game so far. It looks so clean, too. It's like, if the the word "radical" was made into a living video game creature, that creature would be Splatoon.

I have preordered this game with reckless abandon.

No voice chat?

Presumably no party system either?

Wow, game is fucking dead to me. Halo 2 had this shit on lockdown in 2004. For fuck's sake.

No voice chat with random matched players. We still don't know if there is voice chat with friends.
I also hope for a party system, but considering Smash and Mk8, my hopes are low

Matches also apparently won't start until there are 8 players since there are no bots.

Yea, same. If their two premier online titles couldn't and still don't allow online chat...

Even then I'm still very excited for the single player mode and the local multiplayer they're working on.

For MK8 I suppose it made sense because of the FFA style gameplay. For Smash, it probably wasn't worth the investment to create an online party system solely for the doubles playlists, which probably aren't as popular as 1v1 and FFA.

For for a 4v4 competitive shooter, I can't fathom it. The game is going to be DOA for me if there's no party system and voice chat. And it better be simple. If I can't form a party before entering matchmaking, the game's lost me from the start. It's not asking for much, again, Halo 2 damn near perfected this 10 years ago.

It sounds harsh, but if you're creating an online shooter and can't at least match Halo 2's feature set, you've fucking failed.

Oh, hey... new thread about Splatoon's website
There should be a fresh discussion there

Nope, all about voice chat again

I hope there's longer version of soundtrack, I love that but it feels too short

I see where you coming from. I agree it makes so much sense for Splatoon to have a party System (more than in MK8 or Smash). But yeah, we're talking about Nintendo here. :D
Also, the missing party system in Smash bugs me. You cant do a FFA against a friend and randoms. You have to fill a room with friends only for a 4vs4 FFA or play solo against randoms only.

But back to splatoon:

I don't discuss about voice chat. ^^ All I want is a party system. so I can join the queue with my friends, unlike in Smash or MK.
I can use Teamspeak or Skype to communicate

Yeah, i feel the same. It's almost like it cut off before the best would begin.

The music in the game is going to be killer. The composer, according to Nintendo Dream, is Toru Minegishi. He's worked on a lot of high profile Nintendo stuff, but his name doesn't really get thrown around as much as their other composers. He's doing the Splatoon stuff alone.

It's going to (rightfully) linger over the game for being such a bafflingly dumb decision.

Really took the wind out of the sails for my interest in the game. But I'm still interested in the concept, and the music on the site is great.

I understand, and I do hate less options.
Just tired I guess, seeing so many "wtf, no voice chat!" here and there.

Yeah ^^, party system is a must! Playing randomly will end up like playing alone.

I saw the tweets and I expected a new thread about it, but then immediately I knew that there will be someone that will throw this to shit by bringing in a topic that is discussed to death in two threads already. Without even knowing the full picture.

But I understand that people are so offended about the lack of ability to communicate in one particular instance that they need to ruin all kinds of communication.

Going back to the website, it doesn't seem to bring any additional info on top of what we already knew, but it's following the same pattern as Xenoblade X, so I'm hoping to get weekly updates at some point and maybe also some nice "Direct" like X gets.

main theme is as cool as everything else in this game.
I've now realized also that the game artstyle/OST reminds me about TWEWY (I know that genre is totally different)

The hub is pretty notable in that regard. It seems heavily inspired by Shibuya, which was what TWEWY was also based on.

Yes, Splatoon gets more ideas from TWEWY than from JSR. The Tokyo theme, the wardrobe shopping with attributes, the artsyle and even the music seem to have been inspired by TWEWY.

There's something weird about the MP3. It's tagged.
And it doesn't mention Toru Minegishi at all.

Artist: Kano Yusuke (狩野 裕介)
Album: Kano Yusuke's Album (狩野 裕介 のアルバム)
BPM: 120
Encoding Settings: GarageBand 6.0.5

All that's been said so far is there's no chat between randomly matched players online. If you thought there was going to be voice chat with strangers online in a Nintendo game it's your own damn fault you're disappointed.

So far I don't think anything's been announced regarding what friends can do online. There's still months left for them to announce something. But they did say for Smash 4 they didn't allow chat during matches with friends to help ensure a stable internet session, so who knows

If people don't continue to mention it how is Nintendo ever going to learn how bad that is in this day and age?

I think you don't need voice chat in this game. Your only goal is to shoot on the floor. It doesn't need much strategy. Even the dumbest people can do that and still help in the match.

The lack of voice chat is something I don't care, AND at least I won't hear shit on my speakers.

The main theme, finally. I have been waiting for this :)

Also really glad there isn't voice chat in this game. I dislike this feature so much.

Some of us like chatting with randoms and if you don't you can simply mute everyone in a global options setting.

Maybe they just want every team to be on even footing and not lopsided one way or the other by tools that not everyone has access to? Maybe they are prioritizing fun over competitiveness?

That's all I can come up with....

Honestly I'd prefer a simple, quick system of communication like PSO had for the DC via emotes and such. Something everyone has access to and something that can't be corrupted to annoy people or swear at little children and such.

Also, that main theme is great!!!

Hell yeah, clean version of the main theme! Well part of it anyway.

I personally don't give a hoot about voicechat, but if the game has no bots and is only 8v8 I really wonder what'll happen if one player drops off mid-match. Hopefully a (shitty) AI will take over atleast...

We don't even know if there is party voice chat yet. And it seems obvious random chat would be a no-go for Nintendo.

Anyway, I really like the main theme.

Theme song is bitchin'. Really hope we can get a CD release sometime.

If they included such an option, I'd have no problems with them adding global voice chat. However, not every game/console has been that friendly.

Either way, it's no loss for me personally. I do hope they add friend voice chat and some means of teaming up.

Good luck without voice chat :(

I really wish they'd allow at least teams to chat amongst each other and with options to mute other players.

It's a glaring oversight.

As long as Nintendo keeps up what they're doing, no game on the Wii U will have this.

If people don't continue to mention it how is Nintendo ever going to learn how bad that is in this day and age?

Oh hey, it's people screaming their lungs out because they read "no voice chat" without bothering to read until the end of a sentence in a translation of a bloody preview of Famitsu's article. It said that there were no voice chat in random match ups. It did NOT say that there were no voice chat whatsoever. But I'm sure you people jumping the gun at lightspeed levels, spreading this rumor as loud and as far as you can to make sure that people don't buy this game will be just as loud when we finally get clarification on this matter and it's discovered that there are voice chat options. Or...you'll refuse to look at the articles again and not realized you jumped the gun until months later when you spit at the game "on principle." Gah, forget hate, I'm starting to LOATHE the video game community in its eagerness to assume the worst and scream it without any standing.

Dude people have a right to be upset, this isn't some secret movement to get people to not buy this game.

Upset? Really? Why? Did they buy something and discover to be something else?

Do they have also the right to fuck up a discussion for the others? Is this thread about voice chat? Why it's this behavior acceptable here or even a "right"?

In real life this would be categorized as "being a dick" - like if some people would talk about how good is the chocolate in cakes and how they enjoy it and another one would just pop into their discussion and not stop talking about how he likes whipped cream and how any cake without whipped cream is shit and practically hijacking the discussion.

So you are willing to burn every thread to get one feature? Spoil discussion for everyone so you can hopefully get your voice heard? We already have a thread talking about it. Go email/tweet/etc Nintendo instead of crying on a forum.

I plan on buying the game, no need to be so upset. I know there might be chat between friends (still not likely based on past Nintendo games), but none of my irl friends besides one owns a Wii U.

Although the product is not available for purchase yet, people do have the right to be upset over something not being included that is pretty common in this day and age. Unfortunately, I do understand that these comments may, in turn, upset other people hyped for the games. It is a valid reason to be upset, although knowing Nintendo: I personally am not surprised that voice chat was not included for randoms. I wouldn't even hold my breath for it being available during games with friends; its implementations in Smash and Mario Kart 8 aren't even during actual matches/races.

There's always Skype for chatting with friends, I know that's what I will be doing.
