Splatoon, Rainbow 6 Siege or Overwatch

I haven't played and don't have interest in R6. I'm pretty sick of/done with mponline PVP shooters.

However, I do enjoy Splatoon and Overwatch a lot as they're easier to play more casually and don't require the twitch reflexes and aiming skills to be decent at even at low ranks like most shooters. Of the two I probably like Overwatch a tad more.

Go back two years and tell anyone a successful shooter in 2016 wouldn't have voice chat and could be successfully played internationally.
Don't see what's so impressive about this? CoD on PS3 was basically without voice chat and was still more successful, hell Overwatch is a teamwork based game where voice chat is critical yet it's essentially being played without voice chat in solo queue on consoles.

People will complain about the lack of voice chat on forums, but the public have shown that communities(much bigger than Splatoon's too) can work without it!

It sad that the reduced market of Wii U have constrained the possibilities of Splatoon for reaching a wider audience. Such a fantastic game.

As far as playtime, I play Siege the most. It's probably my favorite of the 3.

But I moved into a college dorm with a Strict NAT type and IT can't help me open it so the game is literally unplayable for me know.

I have splatoon and Overwatch. I suck at shooters in general, splatoon is so much easier to get into than Overwatch. However I don't necessarily think its a better game just suited for me more

I also suck with mouse and keyboard, i get confused often.Splatoon on the other hand is like 4 buttons to play dual analogue or analogue and motion. So simple.

I need to get into Siege. Played the beta and kinda enjoyed it. It definitely had its own unique feel to it, but had a hard time throwing $60 at it.

Didn't care for Overwatch.

I think one of the best things about Siege is that you are constantly learning new ways to outsmart your enemy. Sometimes you figure them out by trial and error and sometimes you get killed by an enemy from an area that you forgot about or did not think was possible.

The operators are all playing a complex game of chess without firing a shot. Every operator has a counter to them on the other side (except for Tachanka!) but you can only bring 5 operators so you cannot counter everything. While there is a fairly specific meta to which operators you should bring, all of the operator gadgets are useful for something.

I never have played Splatoon but it looks fun and Overwatch is/was fun for a while. Siege has just had a staying power with me that no other MP game has had. The game came out last December and I still want to play it every night. No other game has had that effect on me.

Regardless, its awesome that 3 very different/distinct games are seen as the best shooters of this Gen. It sounds like Titanfall and Halo 5 could be added on to the list as well but I am glad that there are different ways to play shooters this generation.

And, again, was designed in a way that didn't require or desire voice chat.

AND IT WORKED.

Go back two years and tell anyone a successful shooter in 2016 wouldn't have voice chat and could be successfully played internationally.

You'd be laughed out the room.

Like a lot of the pro-Splatoon rhetoric I see on this forum, this kind of reads like it's been written by someone who isn't familiar with the shooter genre as it has existed for the last decade or so. Voice chat is not a necessary component of any modern day shooter, something which is proven over and over by the fact that nobody talks in modern day shooters. Since party chat became common, it's very rare to hear anyone on the microphone, and yet, Call of Duty, Battlefield, Halo, Overwatch, etc. are all popular and work well.

It is also total nonsense to suggest that voice chat isn't desirable in Splatoon. A team that is talking to each other would have an enormous advantage over one that wasn't. While I can perhaps accept that the developers didn't want to implement voice chat inside Splatoon, it is only Nintendo's incompetence in not implementing a party chat system that means you can't easily talk to your team in the game. Also, while Splatoon's design does work well without voice chat, it's no more true of Splatoon than it is of, say, Call of Duty. It has more to do with the relative simplicity of the task at hand and the lack of need to depend on others than anything. In Overwatch you are dependent on your teammates because of the different roles, something only loosely noticeable in a game like Splatoon.

The lack of voice chat in Splatoon is much the same as the lack of good matchmaking and the shoddiness of the netcode. It's more to do with a lack of experience/time/competence on the developer and Nintendo's part than it is some kind of brilliant design decision. For what it's worth, I really like Splatoon, and played it a lot after it launched. It's fresh, but some people seem to think it's revolutionary, which it simply isn't. Overwatch is the best of these three for me -- but I only played Rainbow during its awful beta.

No nod to Halo 5... That's to just wrong. But yes all of those games are excellent.

But I don't really like hero shooters so Overwatch wouldn't be in my top 3.

The thing I love about Siege and Splatoon, even if your not that good at shooting and killing opponents, you can still help the team by doing other things. Siege by building defenses and spotting enemies on cameras even after your dead, and Splatoon by painting the area or just using the roller or brush.

I do know Overwatch has healer but I havent played enough to know how much it helps the team if your not as good at shooting

There's a ton of support roles in Overwatch. Tanks, builders, healers are all super important.

Such an odd contradiction in what you said.
I'm concerned fused because you didn't play R6 because you are sick of mp only PvP shooters but you play Overwatch?

You also implied that you like games where you don't require twitch reflexes but then you play Overwatch?

R6 gameplay is all about movement and situational awareness more than aiming...most of the time you'll be aiming at a door or a window, the character movement doesn't really allow for twitch shooting in the first place. While Overwatch you have so many characters that require fast reflexes.

While it's still ultimately a shooter, Overwatch has a really impressive range of characters, some which put a heavy premium on good shooter skills and some which really don't. It also has an amazing range of characters in terms of sheer difficulty. Someone who wasn't great at firing guns could have a great time playing as Mercy or Lucio (both healers), Symmetra or Torbjorn (both builders), as well as the tanks Reinhardt (who uses a hammer, not a gun, and has a gigantic shield), and Winston (whose weapon fires arcs of electricity and doesn't really require aiming, just proximity). For all of those six characters, what shooting mechanics they comprise are the minority of what they are there to do.

The difficulty in playing Overwatch is more about learning to be a team player (and praying your team is comprised of team players) than finding a character you can play well. It doesn't take long to grasp the easier characters, for sure.

Not to mention that Splatoon is the first video game to play functionally like a sport.
It's a true Esport game. It has an obvious scoring system, positions, power plays. It's perfect for that format

Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket Powered Battle Cars/Rocket League are better examples of being "true" eSports IMO.

They're so very different, but I would give the nod to RS6.

All great, though, even though Overwatch isn't really my cup of tea I can definitely appreciate it.

Is a mic basically mandatory for playing Siege?

Not recommended for some casual FPS'ing?

A mic is very helpful, but a lot of people don't use one.

I would say that less than half of there players on PS4 have a mic plugged in, and less than that actually use it/say anything useful.

I prefer having a mic, but you can still have fun without one.

I have Siege but have yet to play it due to not knowing how to jump into the game at this point. I was a big fan of past rainbow 6 games so maybe one day I will man up.

Splatoon was fun to play but I stopped playing it couple months after launch. I am interested in what the sequel will end up doing.

Overwatch is the only one I've really played more than the others and is the one I see myself playing going forward as I do enjoy the different classes and the promise of a steady stream of content.

You can get by without it as long as 1 or 2 other people are talking and you listen to them, and as long as you are playing unranked.

Thanks. Definitely gonna check it out. If my kids are up, it becomes near impossible for me to use a mic/headset.

Just jump in and play. In unranked, who cares? You might get yelled at by tryhards, but you have to learn somehow. Having your mic on will help, you can find some randoms that talk as well and team up.

As much as I love OW, I definitely crave playing R6S more frequently. I skipped it at launch because I hadn't really seen anyone talk about it, but after playing during a free weekend I was hooked. So my vote? R6S

Haven't played Siege. But I've played a lot of Overwatch and Splatoon. I think Overwatch has much deeper gameplay. Splatoon is a more relaxed take on a shooter (but doesn't make it any less frantic or fun).

I love them both for different reasons. I think I like Overwatch more by a hair, though.

I use one. Even if no one on my team does. I can't count the amount of times I've said something that has saved someone and they still hear it despite not having a mic. If you get a team with 5 mins though, you'll usually do well.

I own both Overwatch and Splatoon

Splatoon is good clean fun, however, I can't help but feel that certain parts such as the equipment skill system and some of the gear loadout availability prevent it from being the best.

Along with that, the netcode and dropping outs I experienced were really frustrating. It seemed more susceptible to player dropping out and 3v4 is no fun. Compared to Overwatch on PC which has a much better connection system and replaces players quickly, it also rewards players more for staying in consecutive matches.

Splatoon may have more maps at the moment, but that is certainly not going to last. Blizzard has a clear plan to add more content. Also, the Splatoon map rotation just stinks if you are stuck with maps that may not accommodate your loadout, that towers map being one terrible example

Lastly, Splatoon having only 4 players per team, and no ability to switch weapons just stinks. Having a team of three other rollers while you're the only one with a blaster is not a great experience. This is probably the main reason I stopped playing once I played enough to get the value of my purchase.

I haven't played Siege or enough Overwatch to compare them to Splatoon (because I play so much Splatoon) but this thread reminds me that I should devote some time to these games when I'm not working or playing Splatoon. So retirement, basically.

Yeah I've been meaning to for a while now but trying to juggle so many other games right now is getting in the way. Especially since my game time isn't what it used to be.

Siege is amazing, if you have any interest in tactical shooters I think it stands among the best of all time. Every match is tense, the destruction provides a huge deal of variation and all of the tools really encourage communication and good intel.

Shame critics took a huge shit on its "microtransactions", which btw are among the least offensive i've ever seen in a game, its an incredible experience and probably the most fun i've had online this generation.

Plus, there's nothing more satisfying than a last second 1 v 5 clutch.

Splatoon > Overwatch. Better variety, balance (although 1 hero limit has helped) and ranked system.

Overwatch is locked in the 2-2-2 meta where almost every game plays out the same. It's fucking boring and predictable.

Overwatch > Siege ? Splatoon

Overwatch has blast. Siege involves some waiting, which I generally don't enjoy, but it is still a fantastic experience (usually).
