Splinter Cell Blacklist "Closer than Ever" Stealth Video

Pretty good animation actually. Dat walk.

Helping kick-off an upcoming plethora of stealth-related content, Splinter Cell Community Developer, Zack Cooper, shows off a classic mechanic with a modern twist, all wrapped up in a never-before-seen environment.

New stealth take down vidja.

Another video for the Chaos Theory - camp

Hopefully people will give the game a go next year, cause it's gonna be good ;)

Now they are using Chaos Theory marketing words to hype this game? lawl.

a corner grab, so stealthy, even Uncharted has this. haha

dat darkness

also...

;P

This is more a testament to how good Chaos Theory's crabwalk animations were more than anything.

That ... was not really stealthy at all. Could've just ghosted right by him.

A 45 second clip devoted to stealth is hilarious though. Probably the same amount of time they devoted to stealth while making the game.

Wait... seriously? It's just a 30 second clip of a stealth takedown? You mean like what's been standard in stealth games for years? And is even highly prevalent in non-stealth games?

I like that they're so committed to proving to classic fans that this is a stealth game, I really do, but... so far I haven't seen a single reason why the stealth in this is anything more than a secondary focus with the bare minimum of effort put into it.

They haven't given me a reason to buy this for my stealth fix when Hitman, Dishonored, Mark of the Ninja, etc. are all out this year offering a much more robust stealth-centric experience.

Well if these weekly videos show that you can be stealthy how would that be pretending?

Did you watch the last stealth video they did?

"Ok here we're going to show how he can drop down and crawl past this area....by the way guys if you do this you're totally missing out on our awesome air strikes and badass chain killing. We'd silently take these guys out right here but we didn't program silent non lethal takedowns in yet, we were too busy making airstrikes. But don't worry guys this is totally a stealth game first."

Hybrid games don't work and they will never work. You need a full dedication to stealth or you're going to end up failing.

Show stealth segment of a level - pretend the whole game is a stealh game

Also, I laughed at the voice of the presenter :lol

Now this game could only be good if there were stealth airstrikes (as in the part where stuff blows up is just silent).

It would've been stealth gameplay is he got past the guard without taking him down. For a corner takedown like this it doesn't even matter if it's light or dark.

God-DAMNIT.

"And now, we're going to show you - the classic Splinter Cell fan - some amazing stealth gamep- ....

That's all folks, see you next week."

I don't care for a traditionnal Splinter Cell game, I came to term with the new direction the franchise has taken long ago.

All I'm asking for is a polished and well thought action game, Conviction was nothing like.

How are you even coping nowadays with all of your favourite franchises being ruined? ;)

I'm glad that they're going to explore some of the games stealthiest elements in coming weeks because, well, I presume it's supposed to be a stealth game. Conviction, however, suggested otherwise.

Conviction happened years ago now, I've come to terms that Splinter Cell is dead. This is just the next nail in the coffin really.

It's just kind of aggravating to me that they still try to pretend they want to make a stealth game. No they don't and no one believes that they do, they're not fooling anyone. Just take what's left of the stealth stuff out and make a fucking action game and try to make a good one.

Bring back the classic gameplay and style where shadows were everything and the game revolved around shooting out the lights.

Crying shame want happened to this series. Used to be so good.

Man, that video was really stupid. It did more damage than good.

Actually, I think stealth games work best when they ARE hybrid games - when Stealth is presented to the player as simply one option. Games where the player automatically fails for not being stealthy are not fun.

In Dishonored, the first Crysis, Far Cry, or Deus Ex, being stealthy feels cool because you totally could take all those guys out, but you didn't have to because you're just that good. Its contrast to open combat tactics is what makes stealth cool in games. Chaos Theory got that right.

How about 7 fucking minutes of STEALTH!

Edit : this is old footage, but amazing!

lol that's the footage that everyone mocked.

I disagree. Hybrids always result in poorly designed stealth mechanics and bad level design. It's funny that you brought up Dishonored and Deus Ex (I'm assuming Human Revolution) because those are the 2 most recent and egregious offenders of sub par level and gameplay design. There's no motivation to design proper stealth when you can freeze time and destroy everyone in sight.

If they just brought back spies vs mercs multiplayer, this game would sell like crazy. I really enjoyed the last Splinter Cell but there's no excuse not to include that as part of the game. Some of the most fun I've ever had in a multiplayer game

Still trying to pass this off as a stealth game. It's alright, I'll call in an airstrike to smoke those bitches out.

You have a point.

Also, I don't see what is so special about these 30 seconds. Even in Conviction you had darker parts where you could silently take down guards...

It's not Sam Fischer without Michael Ironsides. It just isn't. They should just change the character's name, and attribute the more aggressive style to his nature.

Splinter Cell Blacklist, starring Wham Bam Fischer!

At the very least Conviction gave us an entertaining LP by Auzzie Gamer.

These short clips, more than anything implies they are trying to hide other things outside of it, like that horrible stealth video they released, it's doing opposite of what they intend to communicate. Show a full 15+ min stealth walk through, open ended areas with multiple approaches, all gadgets you removed even hacking and lockpicking, just like how you did for the old games, if you really want to show this is a stealth game.

If you can't then this is same as Conviction was, they said all the same things like how levels are still open ended and you can take multiple approaches, then the game came out, even the level they demoed was different in the game, now fully linear. amazing. (this is the mansion level, the very first level, go watch e3 2009 demo and then what we had in game...)

They still haven't even shown you can move bodies in Blacklist and that's supposedly in, I believe it when I see it.

Stop please, just stop.

Seriously, what is this video supposed to show? A few seconds dedicated to stealth gameplay? Fuck me they have lost it.

I'm sure I have seen the move body option in of the videos.

Releasing a 26 second clip of stealth gameplay from an alpha build reeks of damage control.

The development team should just go dark for a bit until they're closer to release and then put out a polished trailer/gameplay video showing the differences between action and stealth.

These types of videos are not convincing anyone.

Well at least can you now choose to knock out guards instead of killing them

...which obviously doesn't matter much if Sam tortures some guy in the cutscene right after that.

I simultaneously want to like and hate this game. I'm not against flashy new action titles, but being a big fan of Chaos Theory makes me want to scoff every time I see this game.

Well, I loved Conviction and will probably love this one as well, but they shouldn't try to sell the game as something it isn't. Sell this as The Bourne Blacklist and we're good.

I would be happy if they showed a video with at least 7 of the following

- Shooting out and/or emp-ing lights
- Whistling
- Throwing a can/rock to distract an enemy
- No kills OR takedowns
- Using THERMAL GOGGLES to see through smoke
- Hanging from a pipe while an enemy passes underneath
- Doing the splinter split while an enemy passes underneath
- Crawling through an air vent
- Using a zoom function of some sort
- Standing in place observing patrol patterns for more than 30 seconds
- Lambert retcon
