Splinter Cell Conviction thread of...no Spies vs Mercs confirmed :|

Where can I find this egregious and polarizing video?

edit:

Aww fuck I found it. Same day PC version? Unless there's some more raggedy than usual flash issues creeping up, that game runs like s h i t. I've been giving it the flash pass for a while now, but I think I'm ready to accept the console version will be of near Mass Effect GTA4 rendering proportions.

There's a huge difference between not supporting dedicated servers and completely removing a large portion of content from a series.

Dedicated servers and no mod support is a large portion. Bigger than 1 game mode.

In fact, I hate the black and white bullshit 1000 times more than no Spies vs Mercs.

Why the hell does the screen go black and white when you're in the dark? That has to be one of the stupidest design choices I've seen in some time. Totally ruins the visuals and experience imo. If you can't turn that off and it's in the single player as well as co-op it's going to kill my enjoyment of this game.

Shouldn't the player not need any visual aids other than the environment itself? You're in the dark when you're... ya know, in the shadows. Why do I need the entire game screen to go black and white or have a meter to tell me this? I can't just use my eyes?

Other than that, not having spies vs mercs, the iffy framerate, and the whole mark/execute win button thing the game looks fantastic. Shame that a few small design choices might turn me off from this game, and I'm a huge fan of this franchise. On another note every piece of music I've heard from this game is awesome.

And, like MW 2, it will last 2 weeks.
Well I can't imagine anyone playing the game for more than 2 weeks when there isn't a multiplayer mode, so yes, that is probably how long it will last.

I'm pretty sure you can turn that b&w filter off. Pretty much all the games that have some special filters have an option to turn it off.

But yeah, I hate that effect as well.

finally pulled the trigger and bought Chaos Theory on Steam. I can't wait to play. :)

That's the biggest problem for me. This is a game that I WANT to be able to play for a long time, but without a multiplayer mode that has already been introduced to the series, I can't imagine myself playing it anymore when I'm finished with the campaign, and the co-op.

This game has been delayed almost 2 1/2 years. That's more than enough time to get it a true adversarial mode into it.

The lack of no Mercs vs Spies diminishes the replayability for me. I was an avid fan of the MP since PT, loved it in Chaos Theory, wtf @ it in Double Agent. The single player looks fun(for the exception of the win button), The coop should be fun and I'm praying it has solid legs for longevity since I'm not a guy who plays a game for achievements. In the end, I will be picking it up and crying later that I can no longer whisper sweet nothings in a Merc's ear before snapping his neck.:lol

I meant the hate, but you already knew that.

Here's the thing no one has really said yet, at least in this thread. They haven't officially said that there will be no SvM. They have said that they still have more things to announce. Plus there is apparently a demo coming in the first couple of weeks of Jan.

One can only hope

I like how they chose this

as the only screenshot :lol

I kinda miss hobo sam. Would love for that to be an unlockable.

Totally legit. Disregard the only screenshot they used that happens to be from the previous failed vision of the game. You skeptical assholes! :lol

Boo. It's official. There is no SvM. Here is the quote from the official forums.

Official – No SvM Mode

I just wanted to clarify this for everyone: there is no Spies versus Mercenaries mode in Splinter Cell Conviction. Why? The reasons were touched on by Alex, but some more details are below:

From the beginning we decided to make the best co-op experience possible for SCC. The gameplay developed in single-player supports co-op very well because it lets TWO players work together to dominate the enemy and reinforce that feeling of being predatory. If Sam is the panther, Archer and Kestrel are like two wolves in a pack, working together to take down their prey. SvM doesn’t fit this new approach to gameplay.

We also wanted to be consistent across the whole game with our narrative ambition, and Co-Op is really the best approach to support a strong story.

However, there is one adversarial mode: the face-off, consisting of spy versus spy, with hostile AI thrown into the mix.

Again, just to make sure we’re all clear here, there is no SvM mode in SCC and there are no plans to have it come in the future as DLC.

Very sad that it's now official...

They really just need to make a small $20 standalone game of SvM with new maps / graphics. I would buy that Day -1.

Or here's hoping that they hear the feedback and it comes for SC6.

Well,

there goes that game.

Maybe you can delay it another 2 and a half years and put the mode that people give a shit about back in it.

I guess there were people who really liked spies vs mercs D:

Personally, I don't really care, and I don't understand all the hate in this thread towards the stylistic changes that were made for Conviction, because I'm seriously interested in how they reimagined SC.

To be clear, I don't think the game looks like shit (well, apart from the framerate), but I don't think it looks enough like a true Splinter Cell game, and I won't be rushing out to purchase it day one at full price like I did every other SC game.

It's funny, I am excited about this game for the very same reason you are not (except the framerate, I hope it's smooth when released). I didn't like the other splinter cell games, and I feel this is looking really good with some great gameplay concepts. You might be right that this doesn't feel like a "true" SC game, but in my opinion that's a good thing.

Having said that, it feels to me that they've kept a lot of the essence of the SC series while at the same time rebooting the series.

We'll see when it comes out.

I feel AC2 was ruined because it was far too easy. Almost like the Wind Waker where battles were boring because you didn't need to do much to win, regardless of how spectacular it looked.

I will not buy this game if i cannot toggle the difficulty.

It's really too bad they removed SVM from this game, but I'll still have a shitton of fun with the coop and singleplayer portion of the game. Yet I do hope you can turn that fucking black/white filter off. Probably not though -_-

I'm not going to lie - I'm probably the biggest Splinter Cell fan around, from since the very first game especially since till now it's what I regard as only true stealth agent game bar none, but I never played the multiplayer more than a few months at a time...

It's really a shame to not see it in, especially since the MP was one of the most unique and coolest experiences out there, but there was always a major multiplayer game around stealing the attention away from it for me - whether it was Halo, Street Fighter, PGR, Rainbox Six, and in this gen Halo, Gears, RB6, Ghost Recon and many others...

And guess what? It'll be even worse in 2010 for me with Halo Reach, Gears 2, Super Street Fighter IV, Modern Warfare 2, Bad Company 2, Lost Planet 2, and many, many more...

The more SP-focused games, especially the ones without additional MP Achievements, the better for me - no complaints from me here - keep on tightening up that SP and co-op campaign, which are six hours each...

Exactly, there are going to be so many amazing mp games, and amazing SP games as well ( ME2 :D )

I love that developpers put so much effort into co-op, because I love co-op. Like, a game really thought out for co-op. Not "there are two characters in this game so let's make the second one playable too" kind of co-op.

More power to Ubisoft.

Seriously. My friend and I have put so much time into CT and DA's co-op modes. Why is there such a lack of great co-op gaming on consoles?

did it too xD number 719, lol.

just played chaos theory coop on PC with a friend and it was a blast! took us 12 hours on normal with some breaks and stupid moves xD

can't wait for conviction

It's not the same situation though.

The previous CoD games (on consoles) didn't have mod support, and barely any console games use dedicated servers nowadays.

That's completely different than removing a portion of the game that was already in previous installments.

Imagine if Halo Reach has Coop but not adversarial multiplayer, for example...

The adversarial mode sounds pretty cool if you ask me. Spy versus spy with the option to add several AI mercenaries hunting you both down while you're trying to kill each other.

Mods and dedicated servers WERE in previous versions, the PC version that is, and is a standard for competitive FPS'er on PC. You expect dedicated servers as you would expect multiplayer in Halo Reach.

I've never really found another co op experience like my friend and I found with Chaos Theory. Other games have always felt like they just throw the other player into the game. Borderlands did a pretty nice job but you didn't really need to rely on your partner(s) like you did in CT. I'm disappointed that there won't be SvM but that in no way is going to stop me from buying Conviction.

I guess my one last hope of having SvM is now gone. All I can hope for is some replayability in the coop mode, but having one of the modes exclusive to the CE annoys me.

Hopefully we get some more info on this spy vs. spy mode such as whether or not we can actually attack the other spy or if it's just who kills the most AI or does the objective first.

Again, it's not the same. :lol

Splintercell now has Single Player + Coop. Lets say that's a total of 25 hours of gameplay (a generous guess). After that, people may replay once or twice, but the game will become stale relatively quickly.

Call of Duty has Single Player + Coop + Multiplayer. Even if the SP and Coop only take up 10 hours, the MP offers dozens of hours of gameplay before becoming boring.

Yes, both games had features taken away, but not all features are equal.

If Conviction had Spies vs Mercs, I'd buy it day one. Now the game is nothing more than a rental, since I know after finishing the game, it will lose tons of value (unless the SP turns out to be lengthy, which I suppose is possible). This seems to be the case for many people, and it sets it apart from CoD.
