His tone has always been like that. The visit was his best movie in a while. I had written him off altogether as some bizarre lucky disaster, but the visit gave me a little bit of hope. Genuinely creepy, but also funny.

I probably need to rewatch a bunch of his movies then. I've seen Unbreakable, Sixth Sense, Signs, The Happening, and The Village, but I don't remember any of them feeling as weird as The Visit tonally. Closest might be Happening but I feel like that was unintentional because the whole idea behind that movie and its twist is just.. fucking bizarre. But it gave us "What!? No!" so I can't hate it.

I need to see The Visit again for sure though. My friend and I HATED it after seeing it but there was one thing in particular, not the scene but I think a line the boy says, that was so weird or the delivery was so awkward that the two of us just lost our shit but we were the ONLY ONES in the theater laughing at it. I can't for the life of me remember what it was so I really want to rewatch it now that this thread has me thinking about it.

I will say it's totally worth watching though. Even though I thought it was awful I would never want to deny anyone that scene.

He's trolling. He hasn't seen it.

Sorry to disappoint, but I did see it at a secret screening at Fantastic Fest 2016, with an intro and a post-film q&a by Shyamalan.

Once the film is released, you'll see what I mean when I say that the twist summary to which I refer is wrong about 3 things.

You might also see why I think knowing the twist will spoil a bit of the fun.

With that being said, now knowing the twist, yeah you should go see this movie blind if you are somewhat interested in it

This guy seems to get it.

If you're not trolling and it's good (with or without the twist) then I'll watch it. Thanks for the impressions.

Trust me, he's not trolling, I also saw it at a preview screening in Melbourne on Wednesday. Really solid film, a good example of injecting dark comedy into your horror to throw the audience off-balance, and the twist literally rendered me speechless for several seconds. I honestly looked like an actor doing a bad job of acting speechless.

I saw the screening tonight. I should say that I am a fan of m night. 'sixth sense' came out when i was like 13 or 14 and i thought it was awesome. 'Unbreakable' is even better and i enjoyed 'signs' also.

Ever since then its been downhill unfortunately. The Visit was promising though. Split is even better and for a fan of the man's (early) movies, the twist is pretty damn awesome.

This is how it went down at my screening.

You could feel the audience collectively thinking "Wait... WTF? Did that just fucking happen? Praise, Shyamalan!"

Shock > understanding > elation.

I just read the reddit spoilers on the ending. If that ending is true, this just went from a movie I have no interest in ever seeing to I gotta see this in theaters and
hopefully we get the sequel we have wanted for years.

How is this man still making movies

How

I need someone to explain this shit to me

He wrote She's All That which made good money then made three straight critical and commercial successes as a director.. Six Sense especially was gigantic. Unbreakable was way ahead of its time and Signs is one of the scariest films ever made. Two ok movies that were horribly mismarketed in the Village and Lady in the Water, seriously the Lady in the Water was a fairy tale they marketed as a suspense thriller, One absolutely garbage adaptation in Avatar.. A bad movie in the Happening. But the Visit was well liked and successful. Dude has a pretty solid record of success. He should be allowed to keep making movies.

My guess is that Kevin is a personality and The Beast is the core. It's a reverse werewolf-type deal. As for any bigger twists? I'm going to assume that there are multiple.

You forgot After Earth.

Everyone forgets After Earth.

Managed to see this last night in UK as part of Odeon's Scream Unseen (an unknown preview horror/thriller film for £5)

Personally I would put it up there with the sixth sense and unbreakable. McAvoy pulls out all the stops and it's probably one of Shyamalan's best shot films, only recently found out the cinematography was done by the guy who did It Follows and it's certainly shows throughout.

Closely shot, claustrophobic, great lighting with a strong final act which I saw had a few people jump and get twitchy in the cinema.

As for the ending, I heard one audiable holy shit and personally my eyes were very much widely opened, very, very good.

Would strongly say give it a chance even if your not Shyamalan's biggest fan, it's a strong thriller with great performances from the 3 main cast.

I don't want conspiracy shit or placation, Dookkake. I won't see this for years. I haven't even seen Signs yet. I want spoilers.

I have liked pretty much all of his movies except avatar. I loved village, signs, and visit. Enjoyed lady in water and happening. Sixth sense and Unbreakable are just amazing. The one with will smith kid was enjoyable family flick.

audience at mine was confused and underwhelmed too at the end reveal. i get why though
unbreakable is an old film

but who cares about them. i was grinning like mad as soon as i heard that music play. McAvoy gives such an entertaining performance in here too. he could have carried this as a one man show if he wanted.

My wife didn't know why I was losing my mind 3 minutes till the credits hit. I thought either
Newton Howard was getting fuck lazy or I'm experiencing the greatest twist in 20 years.

Saw this a couple of nights ago. If it wasn't for McAvoy killing it, it'd be pretty average. The ending isn't really a twist, more a 'oh, right, that's cool'.
