Spoil Halo 2 for me

This is what you call a critique?

It's his opinion. It just so happens to differ from yours.

Wario64: You're crazy. The mythology and world of Halo is so awesome. I enjoy the story quite a bit. It was my favorite part of Halo 1 and Halo 2.

To the person who said the music is generic: Whoa o_O. The Halo OST is so awesome. It's far from generic. The only sour spot in the whole game was that one cheesy pop rock part. :lol

i still don't get what people didn't like about the ending...

i thought it was a great cliffhanger and it came about the time in length that i expected the game to end...

Dude, he has over ten thousand posts of under three lines each. You think he would care about story? ;P

Here's my beef about that. If you want the game to end on a cliffhanger, end it with the scene of the Master Chief leaving High Charity. Cortana is left behind, we know the MC is headed off to save the day, but we don't know what he'll find. That's fine with me. That would be a cliffhanger.

But to have the MC arrive at earth, and then do the big build-up to the battle, only to cut it off...that's just wrong. It's more of a tease than a cliffhanger.

I was most pissed off with the fact that what Bungie showed at E3 the preceding year was cut from the final game. It showed an epic level where MC was flown in and saw first hand the damage the covvenant did on earth. Wounded soldiers, medics, destruction etc. It was insane, and like many i thought this was going to be the tip of the iceberg for the game.

Unfortunately it was all cut and in its place was less than exciting levels with quasi boss fights. Look you either have real bosses or none at all, that simple. Bosses are cheesey as all fuck so if they are going to be there they need to be stupid and over the top ala MGS2,3.

Multiplayer just rocked hard, you can tell it was where the dev time went. It shits all over counter strike and any other multiplayer game i have played. Sure cheaters and glitches have soured it some, but its hardly the games fault.

For the record, Halo: Combat Evolved was the best game i have ever played. The silent cartographer level makes every other game known to man feel average to me. Theres not a game that has been made that even touches that level.

If I worked at bungie I would sit around in my underwear covered in pizza crumbs in my giant mansion and laugh at firez. What a bitter boy.

The only thing wrong with Halo 2 is the fucking cheating fucking fuck fuck the cheating shit.

I disagree. There is a difference between stating your opinion and trolling. That was trolling.

I guess I'm weird, because I didn't have a particular problem with the ending, and I thought the story was detailed but overly generic and not in the same league as Bungie's previous efforts (or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels, which Halo borrowed liberally from and then dumbed down).

i hated the warthog thing in the first game, the level wasn't really made well for the warthog to drive in, can't count the number of times the warthog would go over a jump into a tunnel and just nose dive and flip over, plus there were no really awesome lines you could take, even on a good run I had to take a number of three point turn type maneuvers.

I hope you don't have a licenses in real life...

If you want a great Warthog level in Halo: CE, try the end level, when you're driving through the tunnel.

Halo 2's way too testy a subject. They did a lot right. They tweaked the gameplay, and added some seriously major kick ass shit. Hijacking, dual fucking weilding? Bad ass to the max.

But, the MP balance sucked. Worse than HL1 pistol whoring. Everything's sniping, or super up close. There's no good mid-game, made worse by, well, super strong sniping and melee. Plus, with all the graphical hooplah, they sacrificed some of the great wide open spaces of one, with corridors, smaller spaces, and less detailed (and not as well layed out) larger areas. And, not that it's the game's fault, but the online community fucking blows. Plus, the actual missions weren't great, were (as Vyse said) been there-done that, the Brutes were gay, the ending made your jaw drop (in the worst way).

But, there's a solid base for H3, and lots of the problems can be easily fixed. If I don't get a huge fucking Earth rumble, with massive damage and world altering widespread destruction and massive fights, I will be pissed. Goliath also rules. C'mon, it's Goliath.

The brutes were good, they just needed to be faster and more savage. The plant thing was stupid. The hardest difficulty level was a joke, the cheapest shit I've ever seen.

But I'm sorry, I loved Halo, really loved it. I wanted that game back when it was supposed to be on Macs. But Halo 2 did everything better. With the ONE exception of the Silent Cartographer, Halo 1 is outclassed in every single other respect. SC is an awesome level, and there is nothing like it in any other game, but that all H1 really had: one great level.

Halo 2 had everything else, damn near a perfect game.

*You go charging into battle at the end as the Master Chief, and the credits roll right before the action starts

PS the campaign rules IMO.

I think you may have stumbled upon a fool-proof method of identifying X-bots: Ask them what they thought about the ending of Halo 2. :lol Good one, Mike.

Did I say it was the best game ever? I specified my issue with the ending after that post. Halo 2 is great, but flawed. In some ways, very flawed. It is possible to like something, and aknowledge flaws in it at the same time. Shocker, I know.

In the single player mode I found, many many times, I could avoid fights and run through enemies and get to a checkpoint to advance. Talk about craptacular design.

Well, at least we know that Bungie will take measures for its next project after all the raving criticism.

It is still a great game, but man, some decisions mangled it in such a way that I couldn't understand even if I have centuries to think about it. The ginormous hype didn't help either.

The whole idea of "you'r gonna kick shit in the Earth!" followed with a "GTFO and pick this blue fella" confused the hell out of me. I got Raydenwned.

Halo 2's ending is fine as long as you go in knowing that this is part 1 of a 2 part story. Same as when you see Lord of The Rings or Matrix 2. The game felt longer than Halo 1 to me. I never understood all the anger over it.

halo 2 rocked. i could care less about the story. they could strip out the cutscenes, dialogue and any hint of background story to the game and i'd still like the campaign.

Exactly. Gameplay is still the best in an FPS. AI, gunplay, weapon balance, feedback etc

Story was a bit different, and the levels were not legendary like the original but the whole package was fucking awesome.

Oh, Bungie NO MORE FLOOD!!

eh? I can understand why some people were annoyed, but that ending sounds like the perfect setup for Halo3. Instead of having 'one last level' on Earth, wouldn't you rather have the whole of Halo3 on Earth?

This is how I've had to look at it. I'm still disappointed with H2's overall campaign level design and progression once you get to the alien ship... It just felt rushed.

Worst thing about Halo 2 IMHO was the removal of health *entirely*

Playing through Halo CE again after the sequel just underlined it to me - Final Run with one bar of health was so intense, hoping to hold out to the next health pack, just the shield regenerator in Halo 2 didn't seem as good to me.

Of course that's just personal preference, and offset by dual-wielding etc

To spoil it for you would be for me to send you my 360 and the collectors edition of the game and force you to play it all the way through.

But you don't want that do you? I hope you don't I wouldn't wish it on nobody. I do like the online portion though that was teh BOMB.

I really did love Halo 1 the first time I "experienced" it....cause that was what it was. I can't count how many times I've played through the SP Campaign and had some good memories with Halo parties

I found Halo 2 a total fucking bore and essentially did what alotta sequels due, whether with film or games, it was just more of the same but with a newly glossed over "mainsteam" touch (ridicuosly stupid nu metal music and classical halo them spliced with cheesed out riffs!?). There are definetly some redeeming aspects about though, like the duel-weilding system (though I always felt it kinda wasn't needed) and a solid console based multiplayer outlet. I dunno, it just felt watered down compared to the classic feel of the first one.....kinda like the Austin Power sequels which I won't even acknowledge their existance.

Im hoping I can find a reason to jump back into the franchise with H3....but I just feel like there is nothing left to see.

Well, obviously he hasn't played Xenosaga Ep. 2.

That might mean something if Xenosaga 1 was any good in the first place ;)

Shit, this thread reminds me I've never beaten Halo 1...

Just some nitpicks -

The Gravemind might have looked exactly like Audrey, but it wasn't a plant. It was made up of the same shit the Flood are - the decayed remains of other races. The implication was that it was what the Flood become if you let them live too long.

Yes, the ending was crap, but I loved the game up until fighting Hammertime the Invincible Mohawk Crack Monkey. There's only so many times you can hear Sarge yell, "C'mon, Arbiter, kick that guy's ass!" before you want to kick Sarge's ass.

We also don't know exactly what Cortana is doing either. There's a final scene after the credits where the Gravemind finds her (The Chief left her on High Charity at her insistence) and tells her shes going to be asked some questions by him. We as the player feel she should resist, but she doesn't. So there's a grey area.
