Why would he do that?
The pan was pretty weak though. Should have cut to black on the close ups.
Someone brought it up in another thread but it was such a LOST ending.

Really can't agree with that. The attacks on her character online mostly reek of sexism let's be honest. No one says this shit about perfect male lead characters that we get in blockbusters constantly. Even Lucasfilms story group lead called this out on Twitter yesterday. She is a fantastic character.
Yep. I want to see more of he and Finn in some duo pilot action. Those two were fucking amazing every second they were in the film. WANT MORE!Also Poe Dameron is easily one of the best new characters. So relieved he made it.

So, that's clever, but why not just have Ewan say Rey instead of cutting it from that lol
The best thing about Rey is her complete inability to not be awesome at everything
And that time she ran at Finn and be looked like he was about to get ran over by a car
I was expecting Jar Jar Binks
It's just a nice little easter egg.
Not to mention the movie bashes it over your head how powerful Chewie's blaster is. Kylo took that shit full on and was powering through it.
C3p0's introduction was perfect, loved it
...Otherwise it feels sadly like token black comedy slapstick.
What the fuck is a Mary Sue
That sounds like a brand of maple syrup

I agree that nerd culture is horrible to female characters and double standards exist, but dismissing all criticisms of the character as sexist will turn the conversation very divisive and very bitter very quickly. For the sake of this not turning into a thread where the "the world is too PC" crowd battles the "everyone who dislikes (female character) is sexist" crowd, I really think it would be best if people just deal with the criticisms in good faith. It will yield a better discussion, and if the criticisms are flimsy, it should be easy to knock them down, right? The attacks on her character online mostly reek of sexism let's be honest. You need a better source than something that begins by saying that it is impossible to present firm definition of whatever it is you're talking about.
I think that's their way explain away why she has anakin's lightsaber.
Does anyone else hope that on the next movies we see settings like ancient Jedi Temples and such? I thought we'd get to see the one on Lukes island but we didn't.
The ancient Jedi order stuff is really one of the main things that Lucas never showed in either the OT or the PT
There's no way Rey is a Kenobi.

Lol yes daisy's rage face is so good in this movie.
She looked seriously scary as fuck running towards him

No I don't. That's an extensive page with plenty of examples. Try reading past the first sentence of things some time; it's good for you.
That is actually why she is horribly boring, but more power to you if you enjoy it.The best thing about Rey is her complete inability to not be awesome at everything
Saw it opening night. Had time to collect thoughts. First, the bad stuff.
- Rey is a disappointing character, but is effective at helping the film achieve its goals. She just is a Mary Sue. She just is. I'm bored to tears by her. What's her story arc even going to be -- she goes through some training that improve her skills 4% so she can finish Kylo off in the rematch? Zzzz. She can already fight, pilot, lightsaber duel, use Jedi mind tricks, and has a love interest on lock. However, the fact that she can do all that a) makes her an exciting Strong Female Character (and all that entails), which I hope converts some girls to growing up nerdy, and b) lent itself to some great action scenes. You may buy the duel with Kylo; it's been covered enough, really, but I just didn't.
In some ways Rey's Mary Sueness is derived from the decision to keep her backstory a complete mystery. WIth no explanations given for how she Reys so well, that's going to be a side effect. But all her aspects -- from already having all the right morals figured out, to having 96% of the skills she needs, to having the total attention and approval of all the original trilogy members (and suddenly becoming the center of the story), Mary Sue it is. That's okay, of course, it's a kid-friendly fantasy romp, I'm not looking for The Sopranos here, but her suffering at least one moment of embarrassment wouldn't compromise Abram's stated goal of opening up the Star Wars "boys' club."

I mean that doesn't really matter along with you coming to that conclusion based on fate. This should stand on its movie without having two other movies to explain its plot. If I believe that I wouldn't be discussing this film until I've seen the last one.I think her story in the next two movies will justify her arc in this movie
I totally disagree dude. I mean most people are completely fine with that being the explanation.and I doubt they'll leave people hanging about that

Lucasfilm has a vested interest in shutting down that criticism so I don't really care about that. I also am not prepared to take it as read that Rey being male wouldn't get the same complaints about developing his powers too fast, being too perfect, too shallowly written, etc -- though they might not put that label on it since the male term of "Gary Stu" is not as well known, they also might. People call out Gary Stu-ism all the time. The argument has already very much turned to calling her a Mary Sue being called out as sexist. Vanity Fair had a good piece about this yesterday about why the attacks on Rey are bullshit. Even bigwigs at Lucasfilm are saying the Mary Sue nonsense is sexist and would never happen if she was a male.
Well Skellig Michael or whatever the planet will be called is supposed to be the first Jedi Temple isn't it? So I'd say that's a given.

well in the EU, it's actually Luke skywalkers' only son that gets named "ben" --so in a way you're right to think that.
leia & han do name their youngest boy 'anakin' though.
it's all non-canon now, but because it's ben around for over a decade it feels just as real.
I fell asleep during the movie. Beer man, it makes me sleepy.
Last thing I remember was them stealing the Millennium falcon, and Han dying in that empty looking area.
Eh, I'll watch it again later on.
It's a call back to the OT when a big black man took off his helmet and he was revealed to be Mr. Belvedere.Kylo lost some of his "scary factor" when he took off his helmet and everyone realized that he looked like Ross.

Oh, fucking please! Really, dude?! Really?
Finn was integral to this story.
lol - nice. @NihilistArbys is my jam.I enjoy nothing.
Life is meaningless.
The only joy I derive from life is the inevitable heat death of the universe.
Enjoy Arby's.
Don't get me wrong, as I said I had a fun time watching Rey have her adventures. A thrilling ride to be sure. I hadn't noticed the parts dealer's accent. I'm going in for a second helping, I'll keep an ear out (to coin a phrase). Agree that SW has bounced back from Ep 1-3 bigtime.Way to suck all the fun out the movie, man!
Nah, seriously, I agree with many of your points. Not all of them, though - for instance I thought Rey was holistically excellent, even though some of her dialogue was a tad stilted and the accent was weird without explanation.
I guess that parts-dealer-alien had an English accent, perhaps it's the dialect on Jakku?
Fucking solid film anyway, and such a class above Ep1-3 it's not even funny.
Yeah, they made it a lot of fun and the actress does a good job. The first time you see her being really bad ass and charging at Finn, it's establishing that she is ready to kick some ass. It looks like Finn is about to get rekt! It's her attitude that makes it. On paper, if you quantify her, she just succeeds at everything, which is weak writing and yes, boring. Arguably, characters are only as good as their flaws. But she was so well executed - from design to dialogue (on the whole) that she just worked. All gusto. It was great.
And this is why not everyone qualifies to be a movie writer. For the final fight between rey and klyo I think it would have been better if kylo beat fuck out of rey and only stop because the force ghost of Vader distracted him allowing rey and Finn to escape.
