Do most of you Europeans that have been using Spotify pay for the service or does free work just fine?

I pay. Love having off-line access to music both on my ipod and on my computer

I used to use Free when it was basically what I needed, until they changed that model for the worse. I subscribed, and haven't looked back, actually.

I was lucky enough to get the $3/mo. rate to Grooveshark mobile back when they had a promotion going, so until Grooveshark gets shut down or they raise my price to $10/mo. or above, I'll use it over Spotify.

Does Spotify have a browser app?

Generally I have free as it means whenever I want to listen to... anything, I can find it. But for some parties and events I've paid up short time for no adverts.

No Browser app.

But it's great and enjoy it, yankie doodles.

I pay myself. I'm on a premium account now, but not really using it on my phone, so probably going to switch to unlimited soon (unless I get one of those fancy Onkyo receivers with spotify support). It's my main source of music now, so 10 euros a month is very reasonable if you ask me.

I'm not seeing what makes this better than, say Last.fm, aside from being able to pick which specific songs you want to play.

Last.fm scrobbles what music I play at home, then I play a radio station consisting of all the songs in my playlist on the go.
Spotify scrobbles to Last.fm.

10 hours / month and you can only play a song 5 times I think, also you get audio and visual ads in the application.
This is why I stopped using it. I used it with my laptop so I didn't have to store music on it locally. I used to listen to the same songs a lot so putting a restriction of that made the whole program useless to me. I don't use so often that paying for it is worth it. They lost their way in my opinion. Also I don't have a smart phone.

I could see myself using this a lot. Going to try it throughout today and probably end up buying the subscription.

Also, Kottila you're the man with all those codes.

I used to have the free service. It was awesome. But the current free spotify is just pointless, so most of the people still talking about it seem to be paying users, and my impression is that they are happy with what they get for the money.

One tip for people that get a premium subscription and have a decent soundsystem: Turn on high bitrate in the settings. It doubles the bitrate from 160 to 320 kbits.

Depends on how you use it. I have a playlist of over 3000 songs that is my main playlist and the chance of listening to the same song more than five times in a month is small.
But if you're really into one album or a short playlist, then free wouldn't be that useful.

How do you input an invitation code?

Using a US proxy, it detects that I'm in the US but when I go to input an invitation code I get "Spotify Open is not available in your country."

hmm

More codes on the house.

Welcome to Spotify USgaffers.

I´ve been paying the full service (10€/month) for more than two years and is simply amazing.

Used that code.

I loved Spotify when we were still able to trick it using proxies. Ever since they blocked it, i've been waiting for them to come to the US.

Does anyone know a good place to get Spotify playlists? Most of the sites I've found are either out of date or horrible to navigate through.

We need to get some gaf playlists going as well.

Will try this later today.

For people that have used both this and Grooveshark, what are the main differences if any?

(please don't put "this is better" or anything like that, I really want to know the differences)

---

So far I see it requires a client? Does it have a web client? Do you HAVE to use the application?

over 3000 songs compiled over two years used for parties (no boring stuff)
spotify:user:kottila:playlist:2sakjQVYfByOKJ3SBmlDde

Norwegian electronica
spotify:user:kottila:playlist:6rLw8XuVJjCFRKGpKyW8VT

paste into search field.

sharemyplaylists.com is a good place to start

You have to use the client, yes.

And, about the other question, Spotify pays the artists; Grooveshark doesn´t.
And 320Kbps.

Used dT5kdZ2JsyB5hUbV and I'm in. Huzzah!

...Now I have to wait 'til I get home to try it.

I did not know that. Time to stop going to Grooveshark.

It's not completely true as Grooveshark has deals with a few record companies. However, they work under the principle of user uploads, which means that the far majority of music is on there without legal agreements.
