Im sorry if my anime history is very limited, but there wasnt a major league Mecha Franchise outside of Gundam after Blade ended until NGE.

I already know what you were talking about in your second comment. It was mostly the first.

If you mean major league franchise like Gundam, there isn't one except maybe Macross at the world wide level. Gundam is the only mecha series to have a worldwide following because of huge number of factors including multiple series and tons of toy marketing. There is one mecha series in Japan that has just as many series as Gundam does and that's the Brave series of Super Robot shows (which there are quite a few) like Exkaizer, Fighbird, and the most famous, GaoGaiGar.

Eva's popularity wasn't as a mecha show anyway. It was mostly as a psychological show and quite a few people see it as the originator of the "emo-psychotic kid hero" or just crazy heroes in general. =P

I dunno how you guys feel, but Darker Than Black really gets better and better with each successive episode. Ep3 was WOW.

Does Tekkaman Blade even fall under mecha? I always thought of it as more of an armor/transformation show, like Guyver etc.

I tend to cross-classify it because of the later mecha but it is primarily an armor/suited hero series. I'm a big fan of the show. :lol

If 07 is the year of the mecha, I'm hoping 08 is the year of suited heroes. I've been collecting the latest 05 Guyver tv series and Tekkaman Blade collections on dvd and I'm really enjoying them. Reminds me of when I used to read the Guyver manga from Viz (which they never finished..). It seems like all the shows I saw when I was younger are doomed to fail in the U.S to some degree. The day I can buy all of Hokuto No Ken on dvd here, hell will freeze over.

I'm finding Heroic Age to satisfy my desire for a fun weekly SF show in the vain of anime meets Star Trek. It's amazing how enjoyable shows can be when they decide not to put annoying or ANGSTY characters/subplots/plottwists in the show and just try to make a happy fun show.

Its certainly a big improvement over Fafner, I agree :)

plus Naoki Satos music is fantastic.

quick question, what is the best group that is putting out Darker than Black? there are like 4 or 5 of them
I like Mishicorp's the best, but mostly because they release a high definition version with HDTV friendly subtitle placement. Sudo's releases are almost always first, and seem decent for quick subs though.

Seirei no Moribito ep 3 was the best ep of anime I've seen in a while. The animation and gfx are off the charts and the action, plot and music all fits so well. This is NICE....

ps: <3 Balsa :D

It isnt fair. Thats one of the reasons we dont have a Fox Kids anymore, sure they made mistakes, but they were going to re air the episode (esceflone), same thing there trying to do with 4Kids for reasons only I know as "Your not Funi" or "Your too Western" or "Youre Not Cartoon Network/Adult Swim (sure they made some serious mistakes too) but this is Ganiax! Do they have to be reminded of who restarted the whole Mecha franchise's after the end of Tekkaman Blade? UGH UGH UGH a pox on these Otaku.

Er.......

wut?

I liked the 05 Guyver series- im hoping Skullman would fill the need that Den-O cant (since there in a...what is that word im looking for...oh yeah-yaoi fangirl J-Drama mode) over there with that series) but i really hope they even do a redone Tekkaman series (they have to keep Blade's suit though.) Didint they had the first season of Fist of the North Star on DVD a few years back?

Look, Im not a huge fan of the genre, and even I, who has seen everything he has ever seen of western animation and there works and there animators and there quirks and great works have to give this episode its due. This is the 4th episode of a 26 episode series, of course the story is a bit sparse- the art, granted was a smigin off. There is a give and take when your working in such of a small time frame.

A correction there... I don't think episode 4 was like it was just because of time limits, those rough lines and amateurish off-key designs are actually Kobayashi's style. :P

Hard Gay's Nodame 12 is legit. :)
Oh snap!

Edit: Gurren Ep 3 was badass. Though I still don't feel like the show is clicking with me. Also thanks for another wonderful job Shouta and company.

Edit2: Gigantic Formula ep 3 took a turn in story I wasn't expecting. The
Greek
mech looked pretty cool.

Kissdum Ep4 Review

Wow, this must be the fastest record to a recap episode ever in anime TV series history. The entire episode is a recap of episode 1-3, with narrations thrown in to give you a sense of what you should have understood from those scenes - which is to say... nothing much. The most hilarious part is that the "new" footage in this recap is 100% animation fixes in ep1 and ep3. Mostly ep3.

It's amazing because, they're totally admitting that episode 3 wasn't even half finished when it aired last week. The missing footage that everyone laughed about is finally seen, and some of it is actually pretty decent. Too bad it's all too little too late to save any credibility the team has. If anything ep4 serves as a preview of what you -could- expect from the DVDs...... if they don't run out of money first. :lol

It looks very nice, indeed. But did we really need a loli? :/

Ep 4 of Gurren Lagann is f'ing hilarious. Boota is so awesome. :lol

The animation is pretty amusing. My biggest beef is that it doesn't move as much as to compensate for the different style. When the show DOES move, it looks very nice.

Well, i didn't want to start a new topic and I thought that somewhat might be able to help me here. Sorry if this has been asked before, but when i try to play any video file in VLC I can hear audio, but there is no video. I have Vista if that makes a difference and I have CCCP installed for codecs. I tried searching in the VLC forum and looking at their FAQ for help, but with no luck. Though I am guessing that is due to the fact that I am rather computer illiterate.

Use MPC, not VLC

MPC or The Core Media Player (TCMP) are what I prefer to use for playing stuff. TCMP mostly for watching a lot of stuff at the same time.

As people suggested, use MPC instead of VLC, also having CCCP with VLC doesn't really help, as VLC is configured to use its own internal codecs.

And when is the DMC anime going to be aired?

This worked for me with the DirectX module

Beautiful.

loli's are as essential in anime as mecha's. ;)

I'm hoping she's more of an actual "little girl" character than a loli (to me they're somehow different, don't ask me why). The tendency of fandom to sexualise absolutely everything gets a bit annoying after a while...

Although to be honest I'm not sure why they've put her in. It's like Claymore - why do people feel compelled to put in young "human" characters to balance out the badassness? Dante didn't need one in the games, so I presume they're planning on rewriting his character a bit so she can redeem him or stop him going evil or something along those lines. I'm not really that fussed (too many other good shows this season) but it's still a little puzzling.

Yep, finally got around to watching it and it was just amazing. I thought Chagun would be an annoying kid, but he is actually pretty brave, and Balsa ia awesome. This is my favorite show of the season next to Lagann. :D
Also, Claymore 4 is out subbed.

Yeah, Den-O is just sickening to watch as a Rider fan. Really hoping Skullman fills the void. A shame that live action suit is being put to such a waste. They really need to make a live action movie or something with that badass suit.

ugh, the start of people overrating the hell out of the terrible show begins. Its Haruhi all over again, with the exception that Haruhi was actually pretty good.

Oh how I can taste the bitter tears. Cry.

Why is that when something is entertaining and highly popular (much more so than other series), it gets a lot of hate?

Oh wait....don't answer that. Cry.

you saying its entertaining is an opinion, same as myself saying it is horrible, but as for the fact that it is getting very popular...its a shame.

I have trouble seeing how people could really enjoy the show, I thought Azumanga was good and it seems like Lucky Star is going for that type of humor, but after the first 2 episodes I watched, it is just so stale and boring. Again, its just my opinion of the show.

Lovely Complex 2 is out. gogogogogo :)

I enjoyed the first episode, will check out the second, but watching it always makes me think the art is a mix of One Piece and Nana.

Well.

In all honesty the majority of film/anime viewers have TERRIBLE TASTE, so the most popular shows are often AWFUL and the minority that has good taste finds it annoying how much the AWFUL shows are pushed due to their popularity.

Most popular shows in Japan recently:

Haruhi - ehhhh...average.
GEASS - hhahahahahaha
Lucky Star - zzzzzz

This is the reason art house cinema was invented in the first place!

I certainly do respect your opinion, but I also reserve the right to vocally disagree with it! :p

Hurrr...

Just messing with ya, Bebpo.

Then what is anime supposed to pander to, if not the general populace? It's not exactly something along the vein of independent film where judgments on quality and value are necessary. If it's the vocal minority you're referring to then I could agree, but really... it's just... anime?

Tokubetsu said:
OP is pretty popular but outside of Japan, I don't think it's anywhere near the level of Bleach or Naruto.

I always think that is because of 4kids, I mean, an anime about pirates (that are NOT in space) should be awsome

Someone kill Raki (Claymore) plz. Thx.

In the opening, it looks like he's weilding a sword and that was just given to him, but damn does he annoy the **** out of me at this point.

I really can't decide if I like Lucky Star or not. Sometimes I find it amusing and it'll raise a smile, but other times I just sort of sit there like a corpse.

I think I've just gotten into the habit of watching KyoAni shows and can't get out of it.

Wouldn't this be more like "refined/exotic" taste..? Analogy/example: I like extremely spicy food since 'I' know what 'good' food is.. should I tell everyone else to try it? Sounds like you should stay away from the popular shows no?

Same. I find some of the interactions funny but not lol funny and I like the lucky channel segments. I can't recommend it to others though as you need patience to watch it.

What is it with the art/animation/whatever shift in Gurren Lagann 4? I'm not complaining but that was... different. Here's hoping next chapter looks like 1-3...
