Not a fan of DTB 3/4. The explotation style violence is stupid and makes me think I'm watching a Beetrain or Gonzo show, and the characters are all just hollow shells so far. Doesn't help that the ep structure for the first two stories has been pretty much the same hinting that every story will follow the same structure. Looks good, sounds good, but I'm already getting bored and there's still 22 eps left :\

I think at this point about 4 eps into most things, you can kinda tell what you like and what you don't. My thumbs up list (in order of preference): Bokurano, Gurren, Skullman?, Heroic Age, Oh! Edo Rocket, Serei no Moribito, Gigantic Formula, Sola.

I havent seen DtB ep 4 yet, but I thought 3 was the best so far, im really enjoying the series. And arent the characters supposed to be hollow shells? thats one of the traits of a contractor.

I just watched ep4 of lagann and yeah... the style is pretty bad...
It seems silly to me that there was the whole 2ch thing and the guy insulting them and stepping down. There was no need for that. But I can't say I'll be dissappointed that he won't be doing another episode....

I really liked DtB 1 and 2, but 3 was eh. I'm still interested in continuing though.

You're mistaken. The guy that did episode 4 doesn't even work at Gainax. Nothing has happened to him and he's still a respected director in the animation industry. He didn't insult anyone and he was just a guest director. The people that did the insulting were Gainax staff, the producers on Gurren Lagann on a whole. The guy that stepped down is one of the founders of Gainax.

In other news, the director of Lucky Star is off the show! After working on 4 episodes, he's been removed and from episode 5 onwards the director of FMP Fumoffu and FMP TSR is taking over the series. Suck it moetard fans! :lol :lol

I just watched the first two episodes of Gurren Lagann and I found them both to very enjoyable. It's been a long time since I watched anime that put a smile on my face. :)

Skullman is next up. I liked the manga, so hopefully it's a faithful adaption.

Shouta, which fansub group are you a part of?

The whole Gurren case was pretty weird, specially considering no-one artistically involved in the project was really complaining against the fans or defending the actual result. As for LS director resignation... read it earlier today, people were claiming a fake until it remained in the site for quite a long time. :lol

Well I don't think it's that weird. People actually artistically involved are usually prepared for criticism. It's always people in management who tend to get very defensive when it comes to criticism and complains. Oh well, it's a lesson Gainax has to learn as far as PR goes. As long as it doesn't affect Gurren's production (Imashii seems to have everything under control) I don't think we need to fuss too much. :D

Is this supposed to be a bad thing? Replacing a new director with an experienced one?

Who knows, it might all be a play at Gainax/Lagann anyways. :D

It's not a bad thing, it's just humorous. Gurren isn't the only show with production shuffling either. Kissdum is another high profile **** up. Considering all the high quality shows this season, I'm starting to wonder if all the people working on them are just really highly strung and stressed.

They'll still on track it seems, I don't see how they can screw it up when they've got the whole script complete up until episode 26 and the storyboard for 18 complete. Tadashi Hiramatu's blog says he is still working hard on the animation for 15. Besides, I have a hunch Akai's resignation was more symbolical than anything else...

Any way to change the size of subtitles in VLC Media Player? I downloaded the latest version and now they're too big and go off the screen. :(

Of course it was symbolical. Someone had to take the hit for that mess, and what better person to take the hit than someone would would be staying with Gainax anyway. It's not like anything has changed, but he resigned as a show of faith to the fanbase that they were serious about correcting that PR nightmare.

As far as production goes, I think they'll be fine, but the only factors that might come into play would be budget. If the show suddenly dropped in popularity and the backlash got serious, the sponsors and investors in the production might be affected and that would have an impact on the budget for the conclusion of the series. I think Gainax made the right move in correcting the problem ASAP.

Um...yeah...well...it was at a time i didnt know alot about the whole fansubbing thing.

Okay my mpc was old. The new version plays the files just fine, but now I get no subs at all.

EDIT: Never mind; I get it. Much better than VLC. :)

Why do people use VLC at all?

With the increase of mkv released, I only use it for dvds to be honest..I prefer it to MPC when it comes to dvds. Call me a fool but I seriously feel like fullscreen avis in vlc > fullscreen avis in mpc.

Wait, so Lucky Star might be funny from ep5 on?

/notes to check out ep5.

A change of director isn't going to save that show.

Unless he kills all the main characters and makes the whole thing Lucky Channel.

I like lucky star.. sure its story line is what weve seen over and over again (OMG JAPANESE SCHOOL LIFE.. it must be teh interesting)

and the characters are mostly stereotypical

but lucky channel and konata really save the whole show over and over again...

A 2-minute segment and a gender-swapped Mary-Sue save the show? Wow.

I like how Moonlight Mile is introducing the sci-fi stuff (aka mecha) into an extremely realistic show. I was worried it would go from Planetes to GONZO at some point, but it seems like it's sticking to its guns. Good stuff.

Some unknown group just released DtB 1 - 4.

Just get sudo's, their only problem is they translate some dialogs too literally and it ends up killing a bit of the original sense but here I'm talking about silly things.
