I would suggest Mushishi. It was my sleeper hit last year. Also Noein has great music and an interesting story.

Seconding this... and Noein just for the ANIMATION. Maybe Monster too, to an extent.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone,

I'll try to check out as many of them as possible.

i found Darker Than Black episodes fast so i'll have a watch when i get home from work.

How many of these shows are fansub and how many are retail?

Thanks again

http://www.lolipower.org/ Hosts unlicensed anime direct download... Hunter X Hunter and Monster are there (HxH is semi-rare so get get get!)... most of it at least. It's missing one of the OVAs, the last one.

10 is being edited and I'm going to work on 11 today or tomorrow. I would definitely wait for a good sub because the episodes have a lot of dialogue in them.

Damn, I was about to get Anon's 10 and 11 too but this made me change my mind. Plus, I'm too busy with university so if I limit myself to AiA/IZ's releases I won't get obsessed watching two eps. in a row :p

(Not that Im not watching like 2 hours of anime per day thanks to all the series I'm following -_-)

Thanks for the link. Bookmarking this is going to make me look like a pedophile to outsiders though. :(

Yeah that's the anime community for ya.

I just started watching Now and Then, Here and There. I'm a bit afraid of seeing the
rape scene.. or even a reference to rape. That kind of stuff gets to me >_>
.

Don't watch
Irréversible then
and let's leave it at that.

It's not explicit, or even shown. In fact this is possibly the only anime ever that deals tastefully with the subject.

I saw it... it's still ****ed up. :( I mean who was it anyway? I figured it'd be the King. Oh well.

I think it was just some random soldier... they should explain a little bit more why they did that, later.

Yeah I saw him again. Moment of joy when she killed that soldier who was trying to impregnate her. I have 7 - End left to watch. Pretty darn addictive show.

Awesome show it is,that is gonzo for ya,Awesome at making New shows but suck at making sequals/adaptations.

Monster is really boring for a while, just a warning.
Yeah, that's why I stuck with the manga instead. Naoki Urasawa is your typical cliff-hanger type of mangaka.. he does some great and epic stories but sometimes it just keeps dragging on and on in certain situations. Having to deal with that through a 70-odd episode anime would kill me.

Anyone else loving Dennou Coil? Man, it just keeps getting better and better..! I really love these kinds of semi-innocent adventure series..

Hmm...I can see why, but I disagree with it. I thought Monster had one of the best and memorable supporting cast I've ever seen, even though some of them only appeared for one episode. Every character Dr. Tenma encoutered fleshed out the overall plot just a little more, there were no fillers to speak of. Could the show be shortened? Probably, but I'd be hard pressed to say what can be cut without affecting the story.

Can anyone give me some good new anime recommendation's? I have been out of the loop for around 2 years now.

I'll watch almost anything with an okay story, but i don't really enjoy the school shows, and i love things with great senses of an atmosphere and music.(noir is a fav of mine and Gunbuster)

cheers.
I'll certainly second Eureka seveN. The thing that really distinguishes Eureka is its character work. The characters at the beginning of the series are COMPLETELY different people from the way they are at the end, and it's done really naturally, subtly, and brilliantly. A lot of people will point to the episodes around the middle of the series especially as a high point, because that's when a lot of the progressive and subtle development that had been happening up to that point really begins to become really clear. When the show is at its very best, the animation can be INCREDIBLE for a TV anime series, and the soundtrack is really really awesome with a pretty cool mix of various genres of techno and extravagant orchestral scores.

If you dig Gunbuster, you should also probably look into Gunbuster 2 and Gurren Lagann (both of which are GAINAX series). I think you can see how much we love Gurren here. And Shouta's subbing it. That's a pretty good endorsement, right?

I'll also second Monster if you want something with atmosphere. I'd consider Eureka the second best series of the last few years behind only Monster. Really brilliant suspense thriller. I can understand why some people might find parts of it boring, though I personally found the series to be quite the exact opposite: gripping and addictive.

Other things good for atmosphere and music from the last few years might be:

Samurai Champloo
Paranoia Agent
Darker than BLACK
Mushishi
Ergo Proxy
Kemonozume
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex / 2nd GIG / Solid State Society
Black Lagoon
and probably some other stuff I can't think of right now

Huh, I guess most of my recommendations have already been said.

LOL WHUT? Now and Then, Here and There is no Gonzo show at all... and the use of suggested rape in anime is increasing by the year. Even Gurren-Lagann had the clear as water suggestion of non-consensual forced sex in episode 11... and you pretty much know what those girls in the village were being trained for.

Well me... but I was expecting to love it anyway.

Does Dennou coil get better? I saw the first ep and it had nothing for me. I like the design but that's pretty much it. That one action scene in it wasn't exciting in the least.

I didn't like bokurano, darker than black, or sola. Is there anything you'd recommend? I was hoping for another NHK or Haruhi.

Bebpo said:
Bokurano ep9 was really good and was the show at its best where the director (who knows what he is doing) makes a nice family show that everyone in Japan could watch and appreciate together out of a manga that is sick and twisted. Very, very tastefully executed and touching at the same time. Good ep.

Interestingly enough the Director doesn't even like the manga according to his blog.. Your comments and him saying this actually make me interested in this series now.

Another NHK or Haruhi? Not sure how they go together, but the closest thing to that this season is probably Hayate no Gotoku! (and that's not really close to either one of those at all).

Dennou Coil isn't an action show, so I don't know why you'd really expect it to be super thrilling. It's very Ghibli-like, if you ask me. Just sort of whimsical and creative and really well put together. Still, it does get a LITTLE more actiony towards the end of the second episode and into the third (emphasis on the little), so if you wanted to give it another shot, I'd say try to get through episode 3 and give up if it's still not doing it for you then.

Otherwise, if it's excitement you want, you should be watching Gurren Lagann. If you like fun (and who doesn't?), that's the show that's overflowing with it this season.

And if you only watched one or two episodes of DtB, I would recommend you go back and watch a couple more episodes before making a decision on it, as it does seem to get more and more intriguing with each passing two-parter. Unless, of course, you absolutely and totally hated it right off the bat or something, in which case don't bother, it's not your show.

I must say I'm really enjoying Dennou Coil. The plot's not particularly epic but it's definitely very entertaining and the production values are great. I see there's now a lot of groups subbing it btw, any recommendation on which one I should check out?

Episode 4 has some action too. Probably the most so far.

I'm sticking with the group who first subbed it. They're also the only group that subbed up to episode 4.

DtB 9 was really bad and 10 just average... the series is pretty hit-or-miss for me, I really liked both the starting arc and the Kurosawa Gai episodes but Havok's and Mai's storyline had serious execution problems and 9 hits a low point in the series even if 10 wasn't really that terrible and it least gets itself moody again. Let's see what's next.

Thanks for your suggestions. Don't get me wrong, I'd prefer a non-action show, I just thought that one action scene was so lazy they shouldn't have bothered. If it calms down later on, then that's good, I'll keep watching.

I want to see Gurren, but I couldn't find the first episode(on the two sites I checked so far). I'll check some others out.

Shouta's subbing Gurren. Do a Google search for "anime in action." Either of the first two links should work.

I completely disagree. I think the show is getting better and better.

I'm gonna guess you're talking about Coil and say I agree. Episode 3 and 4 were pretty good; I'm really loving the pace its got, kinda action-ish but then again more enjoyable than anything else. I love how there's about a bit of everything this season.

Thanks Mendoi for subbing KissDum,I don't get it Duckroll, you pointed out it's horrible but i thought nothing but awesome action /good pacing...unless you're questioning how they appear from point A to point B. Or you're saying after ep 7 it's gonna be horrible....

You don't even need a proper release. I'm pretty sure that you can understand everything that's going on. Perhaps because I'm used to even worse english due to my love for foreign (martial arts) flicks, i had no trouble deciphering the hilarious bad english.

I'm not a fan of mindless action though. It is basically fanservice for those who enjoy the game. Me not being the biggest DMC fan (Liked what i played of 3, but haven't played much of franchise before it), i didnt enjoy it.

Oh great,Viz media are being dicks and send out C&D letters to DeathNote fansubbers with only 2 more episodes left. Sorry Viz media, nobody likes you and your shitty dubs.

Crap, I was really looking forward to this one. I actually DLed the first 23 episodes, and I *rarely* touch a show that isn't finished for reasons like that. :(

They're sending out C&D letters because Viz is trying to start their own subbed download version. Which means they're trying to be in the same online market with the same target consumers (theoretically) as the fansubbers. The only difference being that Viz is the only one with the actual right to be delivering that product to that market in the first place.

I'm surprised they waited this long to break out the legal squad on Death Note, really.

i love that the deadline is the 22nd. so the very last episode will be left hanging.

considering they've had the license for 6 months now, it's really just to be dicks. they couldve easily put out a C&D when they picked it up.

it'll get fansubbed regardless

fixed.

I don't think people who download the fansub will be the same people who will download a subbed episode with drm up the ass for a price. But that is just me.

http://www.famitsu.com/anime/news/2007/06/14/681,1181819986,73434,0,0.html Tons of Gundam 00 figures and anime pictures of the characters with their gundams.

Neat.

Dual Dagger/Mini-Sword Gundam looks sorta meh. Proportions seems bad on the figure version, and the animation version is ok but a little plain.

Rifle Gundam is horrible. There's nothing wrong with the design but it's completely generic. The color scheme and weapon choice make it seem like a lammme ripoff of SEED's buster.

Plane-transforming Gundam looks interesting. The spikey parts look cool.

FAT GUNDAM is the best freaking one by faaaaaaaaaaar. Reminds me of the big ass GPS02 from 0083. I wish this was the main gundam, lol.

That doesn't change the fact that Viz is the only one with the right to distribute it, and they can do as they see fit with it.
