Square-Enix apparently has a new Mana game in development

You assume it'll be a legit game instead of some freemium card game bullshit.

Card games work great on touchscreens too! Ok, I'm sorry.

The series is typically and action-rpg which I would hate to play on a touchscreen

And assuming they would make and legit action rpg on mobile is ridiculous

The gameplay isn't really skill based though so I think it would be alright. I'm not saying it wouldn't be better on the proper handhelds but you have to be realistic.

amazing how devoid of emotion I am when I read a SE topic

Its like they are a dead company already
except for Bravely Default

Combing through tons of "top 100 Playstation 1 games" to see what I can pick up for my Vita (have been debating the "Mana" game) has made me realize just how much more variety we used to have and how much better RPG's were.

You aren't kidding. I remember when there were tons of one-ofs and franchise RPGs to be found--on consoles. Now I can pretty much guess a game's platform just by looking at the title. "Oh, I haven't seen a new Breath of Fire game in a long time! *clicks* Yup. Just like I thought. Mobile game. *sigh*"

android or ios?

Dat first post.

But then, I'd be slightly disappointed regardless unless it was a smaller-sized PSN game for PS3 or PS4.

What does it matter if it's on iOS or Android? It's not like the Mana games have been good on consoles/handhelds lately. I don't trust them to put out a good Mana game no matter the platform.

Hope: Traditional Mana game for 3DS
Expect: F2P iOS game
See? you already fell for their tricks; you should hope for a full fledged awesome looking game for PS4 or WiiU game, instead you have lowered your standards and only hope for a 3DS game.

(I love my 3DS, don't have either PS4 or WiiU and I love handheld games, but IMHO console efforts have a lot more presentation and care, even if the games themselves turn like shit and are worse than 3DS games; and I also think 3DS and DS got robbed a lot of times in the GOTY awards and will get robbed again this year when Zelda doesn't even get a mention in GOTY and AA5 is forgotten in best story).

Crazy how a rumor from a beloved IP like this from most other companies would explode into a 20 page thread of speculation and rejoicing, yet with it coming from SE it's 3 pages of "fuck off" and done. What other company has so successfully destroyed the cache of their IPs?

I cant even fall for this anymore, Capcom might still get me every once in a while, but to me, SE is irretrievably lost.

Having you been following the SE trajectory lately?

It tough not to have a degree of pessimism right now

His hope was realistic. Your hope (mine as well) is not.

The new song is called 心踊りし魂の住処 (something like House of the Heart-Dancing Spirit ?) and is composed by Yoko Shimomura

Capcom? The Breath of Fire 6 reveal was soul crushing.

Why are people so against IOS games? I mean a good game is a good game..or not?

And I don't even own anything by apple.
It's because iOS doesn't have buttons, so games designed for it use touch screen and feel like shit; even if you hacked in some buttons and used a bluetooth controller (which are laggy as hell), the game isn't designed for precision and feel bad.

There's also fucking portrait mode in many iOS games; after all the advances made to have wide screen, most iOS games are in portrait mode which sucks and if put in wide mode, buttons take too much space on the screen. Loose loose for everyone. See DQ8 remake on mobile to see what I'm talking about.

Finally there is the absolutely shitty battery phones comes with; if you play games, battery lasts like 2-3 hours and you need to use the phone for other stuff. If a handheld battery runs out, no big deal, but if you run out of battery on the phone, you are screwed for the rest of the day (my case at least, and I always carry external batteries).

Sad thing is, even if it is a console game, it'd never see the light of day with Square-Enix's Ueda-like inability to release games that don't star Lightning.

I think hardware reasons for disliking iOS games are minor issues. It could be a great gaming platform when the controllers based on the new API are released.

The fact that they're usually bad shovelware with IAPs, either freemium begging for money, or Square-taxed and begging for money, is what makes them suck.

It's just the last few entries have been lackluster to say the least. It's a mediocore franchise by now. No expectations.

In a perfect world: Seiken Densetsu 3D (port of SD3 for the 3DS with cool 3D effects added).

In our world: mobile cash-grab with prominent rabite whack-a-mole minigame.

You'd think with all of this renewed focus on mobile development that at least ONE of these games would amount to more than a cheap cash-in that you wouldn't want to spend more than 99 cents on.

But nope... they're all nothing but garbage.

Not only do these developers refuse to develop for anything but smartphones but they don't even develop GOOD games for smartphones.

Searched around, didn't find a thread.

Square-Enix recently released a christmas rearrangement album, including a track from an "Upcoming Seiken Densetsu" game.

It's not Circle of Mana (iOS card game), but something else that hasn't been revealed so far.

Thoughts? Might be Mobile game Rise of Mana.

Arcade two-player card game.
