Square-Enix E3 2011 Site Open | No Type-0, Versus, or KH3D

Can we go ahead and classify Versus as vaporware?

Nomura's team probably could have developed two Kingdom Hearts games in the same time it's taking them to develop Versus. What a joke.

Not now they've shown a full trailer with voice acting, CG and gameplay. It'll be out late 2012 in Japan as their big title for next financial year.

Absolutely. I've been pretending the game doesn't exist for the last four years, and I'm a happy camper.

Disappointed that HD collections of FF/KH titles are seeming less likely.

But they still can't pull together a playable demo for E3?

TGS, you'll get something there. It's more a case of them concentrating on XIII-2 and Type-0 related promotion first and foremost.

Well can't and don't want to are very different. They have two (three counting the XIV relaunch) FFs to market before Versus, they might not want to confuse the message. It's effort for nothing really.

EDIT: Beaten.

I know this has been beaten to death already but I don't really fucking care. Versus not being on that list is absolutely fucking ridiculous.

But they're to the point where they've effectively killed almost all enthusiasm for the game.

Is anyone genuinely excited about this game anymore? I think even the biggest FF fans are cautiously optimistic, at best.

This is an issue that comes up a lot on GAF, how you should market a game, when to reveal it, how much to show when you do etc. I personally don't mind knowing of the existence of the game years a head of time. Right now if no one had ever mentioned Versus XIII I imagine we'd be under the impression they're slowly working away at KH3.

The real marketing campaign for Versus XIII hasn't started yet, it's been talked about plenty, trailers have been shown etc, but just like FFXIII I'm sure they'll roll out the campaign we'll get 'Trailer 1', followed by months of details about specific characters and things.

Even something like Agent I like to know about, but I can certainly see why it irritates some people. Personally yes, I am still genuinely excited about the game, I think it looks like everything I've wanted from the series since the 7/8 era.

Hit the nail on the head. That and the mad CGI are the only reasons I'm still bothered about the game.

Excited, yes... optimistic about it's release?

I dunno.

Why not? KH I could see a reason for since there is no KH game on ps3/360 and probably never will be, so it would kind of send a weird message. But FF HD editions seems like money in the bank.

When the time comes for its release, Square will fill you with enthusiasm for Versus.. Right now, It's XIII-2, then Type-0 THEN Versus.

Seriously, raise your hands if you thought you'd be able to play Duke Nukem Forever before Versus.
Hahaha, Versus is the new DNF! I was thinking the same thing yesterday.

Also. the amount of criticism S-E has been getting lately, even from their most loyal fans, is pretty alarming...

No Type 0 is the only one that bothers me since its an actual game a month or so for release. I cant fathom why SE would not put it out here vs some of the PSP shit they have released.

Voice Acting costs maybe? It's more cinematic than any recent PSP release.

Having to print up 2 discs per box instead of just one?

I think Europe will get it. Maybe not NA though. At least for digital stuff, PSP games in Europe sell much, much better.

How are people surprised that Versus is not on that list? We've known for the longest time it would not be. We've also known for the longest time that the focus is going to be on FFXIII-2. The unprompted anger in here is amazing.

Maybe it's headed to 3DS and/or NGP? I agree it's odd considering SE was happy to release PSP games earlier in the year (3rd Birthday, Tactics Ogre, Lord of Arcana) but I could see it if they're holding back for a more commercially viable Type-0 release.

I bet they announce Final Fantasy something for NGP.

square did pretty good on the psp even in its later years so its kind of a no brainer.

A enhanced version of type 0 would be easiest. Even a ps3-ngp ps2 FF HD collection would be nice for the launch window.

That would be nice but Im sure it will be some crazy new bullshit where they only show a CG trailer and we wont see the game until 2017.

Hopefully they can get the game out before the psp3 is announced.

I've had just about enough of your "logic" and your "facts".

Maybe Kingdom Hearts NGP. But I'm not expecting it.

I still have hope for Final Fantasy HD collection, or at least one game in HD. Specially from this quote from Sony.

“The industry’s best developers are ReMastering their best games. Prince of Persia, Shadow of Colossus, and ICO are just the beginning. When fans see what Konami’s doing to the Metal Gear series, and what Square’s doing with Final Fantasy, they’re going to be very happy.”

Now we know that MGS is true and even Silent Hill and Zone of Enders, do you really think Square wouldn't do this? I mean they sure do like releasing Final Fantasy II like 4 times. If they just did X, X-2 on one disc, it'll sell like fucking hot cakes. Why they haven't done this sooner is beyond me.

Come to think of it, wasn't Thief 4 supposed to be shown at the GDC back in March? I remember there being a blurry distant shot of a screen with what was supposidly Thief 4 playing in the background.
I think it was a presentation from an audio designer or something. Only significant as the first time the game had actually been mentioned officially beyond the name.

Sony is today! Lets hope they announce that Final Fantasy HD Collection! It has to be true, now that the article is true about Metal Gear Solid.

We'll probably end up being disappointed though.

Pretty sure they'll announce a Final Fantasy HD collection.

It's easy money and Square likes easy money. That's why they release their games a whole bunch of different times on different consoles, decades apart.

It'll probably only be XII, and at $60. lol, but I'd still buy it.

Actually you have a point. Square would never release all the games on one bluray. That would represent good value to the consumer, after all.

I was hoping TWEWY 2 rumors would have come to fruition. Oh well, I hope for surprise announcements, no one reveals their entire hand before the show?
There were never any such rumors, though. Just wishes.

I'm expecting un-named franchise titles for the NGP lineup, much in the same way we got them for the 3DS last year. So, no title, no release date etc.

As for no type-0, this is worrying. The game comes out before TGS, and we have heard nothing of a localised demo floating about still.

No surprise for Versus or KH3D, as they will both be at TGS where their fan base will queue up in droves.

I'll be checking the media for XIII-2 and Tomb Raider, cautiously optimistic for both.

I wouldn't even expect seeing Versus if it wasn't for the thread title, I liked the last video they released for it but the next day I forgot about the game again. Only absence that surprises me is Type-0. Fairly sure they won't skip it for localization but it feels like a missed opportunity, it doesn't look like the kind of game you release without a bit of fanfare.

Lineup looks pretty lame, I'm not really an Eidos fan aside from Tomb Raider... Deus Ex looks like it could be decent too, but I'd much rather see some games hearkening back to the good ol SNES/PS1 days. Or at least confirmation of a US release for the new Rocket Slime.

People are just still not used to the fact that, moreso than anytime in the past, SE is by large an international developer and publisher, so they are focusing on western games for E3, which happens to take place in a western country. Japanese games will be focused on for TGS and other Japanese events. Simple as that.

And it won't even be the international version :(

Same here. But my purchase will be used, and several months late, if the game isn't improved in any way. Give me something that will make me want to play FFXII again now rather than when the mood strikes me a year from now, SE.
