I think the quality of the graphics on FFXII were just fine. And I think that with a system that's quite a bit more capable and has more memory, it could look better. It doesn't have to be HD for me to be able to appreciate the game nor get immersed in it. In fact, I have no problem being immersed in SNES 2D games like Chrono Trigger (actually moreso) than I do with some of the more recent 3D graphics fests like Gears. I have no problems jumping back and forth between my PS2 games and the highest-end that PC gaming has to offer, on a weekly basis - so why does a game need to be on the HD platform to be epic? Besides, the bulk of the important story telling in most of these epics is done through FMV, and even the PSX delivered on that front. It's like people all of a sudden forgot that God of War 2 was PS2 game, made that great on a 200mhz system with shitty 3D hardware.
It's more about progression. The more tools and options you have at your disposal, the easier you can immerse people. Talk to any story teller, be it film, comics etc., having more tools and more options is never bad.
Difference is, on the PSP you can do DS quality graphics, but on the DS you couldn't do PSP quality graphics.
Now, if you believe stylus control or dual screens trumps graphics, then that is your taste. Personally I am all about options, ideally I would love to have a system that has great graphics AND innovative controls (which is why I _hate_ Nintendo for going the route they are going) but stylus control and dual screens are not very exciting for me. I am (sort of) glad it is for a lot of people, but I never got the appeal.
As for Wii vs /PS3/Xbox360, I am of the same opinion. I think Sony have interesting things going with the camera (Eye of Judgement) but I would love to see them and/or Microsoft expand their systems with waggle control. Waggle + awesome graphics would be negate any need for the Wii for me.
But for now, Waggle isn't enough for me to deal with dated graphics. It might work for casuals + minors (for now) but seeing games like Mass Effect, Final Fantasy XIII, Metal Gear Solid makes me cry when looking at Zelda and being pissed off majorly at their decision to hold back the graphics on their system. In 2 years Wii is going to look retarded to most people, I am certain of it.
