Thanks for reminding me that I really want FFV DS even the slightest modernizing of the FFV Job system would be incredible (think something like FFT, with field screen abilities like seeing passages/not taking trap damage replacing movement abilities, and with ability submenus for each job (i.e. monk would be able to do kick/chakra/focus) and a big difficulty boost

Pretty much. Versus XIII is one of the very few games worth a damn this gen and after more than 3 years we still won't know anything concrete about it. I seriously doubt it will be talked about jump festa and I really doubt it will come out before 2011, which would make it at least 5 years since the game was unveiled.

I think it depends on what people are after from a FFVII remake. I'd be happy with it on the DS if they spruced up the music a tad and didn't use SD characters for the field - otherwise, I think if it looked as good as VIII or IX did I'd be happy.

What more people clearly want is the PS3 tech demo in game form.

Here's a small comparison of the two versions:

The environments and effects look better, but I'm not entirely sold on the new sprites yet...

By the way: I never noticed that the title screen was changed for the Western releases (right).

I agree, but I don't really understand why they would update the music. It really pushed the SNES hardware back in the day and was perfect as is. In any case, I hope we'll get a trailer next week.
