SSF4: New Characters - Hype Train to TGS

Off-topic, but what's the story with Urien's hair/skin color changing?

I just want Karin. Anything else is gravy.

I hope it's just 4 new characters and many balance tweaks to bring the Super characters closer to the rest of the cast. The old SF4 console cast is pretty well balanced as they can be, but the newcomers were made too weak, generally speaking. Ibuki is the only one really suited for high level play, but even then her vortex falls apart against an experienced player.

SF4 needs an Aussie. I can't believe the series has went this long without a Crocodile Dundee rip-off.

SF has always been about racial/cultural stereotypes, right?

If Virtua Fighter and Tekken are any cue, the current stereotype's "'roided, belligerent drunk." Update!

I wouldn't mind Kylie Minogue as a Athena inspired character.

I know SSF4 has its share of old geezer fighters and that new old guy with the beard is cool for a low tier but CapGod PLEASE put Gen in this game! :(

Such a bad ass
Get of that bandwagon. He's still a badass.

Elena is all I need. Do it, Ono. DO IT.

You know, the "seven characters" rumor sounds oddly convincing to me. There are six logical slots in the character select screen, but what if the seventh was a CPU-only Gill? That would make sense for the arcade version.

He could then be made playable in the home versions via time-release, or something.

What's wrong with Remy and Alex? Remy is kind of a goth character, and Alex is a classic soldier/wrestler... I don't see what makes Rolento or Sodom better, they're all cool archetypes I guess.

Rolento is awesome in general; See CVS2. It's not that Sodom is a better fit than Remy or Alex, he's an alpha character, so if they do add more alpha characters I'd like to see him in 3D and how they adjust his style to SFIV. Birdie would be cool too I guess.

I just hate everything about Remy, his music, his clothes, his hair, his fucken big ass feet. He's a very poor man's version of Guile that should have never been conceived.

Alex is meh, I just hate his win quotes and shit. But I love to beat him down everytime I play 3S, gotta fight him everytime he comes up in arcade mode.

Seth K posted this,

"The arcade version was confirmed in a location test video to show two extra blank slots. That's ALL that is known so far. Nothing elase confirmed and the devs haven't addressed it in detail yet, saying to wait to TGS."

^^

This.

Fun rumors get everybody talking, but I'd be careful about buying into them. Just sayin'...

Also the "official-looking" SSFIV fan page is totally not official. No connection with Capcom.

best,

Seth

That seems more of a "covering our bases" statement than a denial. After the the SSFIV roster leak, I think they are trying to keep a much tighter lid on information.

But it is true that rumors of this nature should be taken with a truckload of salt, but it's fun to speculate anyway.

well, if they really want to keep it secret then they shouldn't add two characters selection space to the selection screen.

I don't think that what they want to nip in the bud, I think it's any expectations that there will be more than two. It makes it easier to change plans that way.

I honestly think the Super roster was intentionally leaked. There was a lot of resistance to the idea of it so soon after SF4 that they needed the roster out to justify it. They just took their time confirming, in case they had to make any cuts.

Why? I don't see people complain about 10 to 15 dllrs DLC Maps in FPS. Besides Capcom is in the plan of getting money out of their games, so expect the DLC characters to cost 10 bux each. :lol
What the fuck were you away from gaf when they announced the $15 map pack for COD??? this Character pack better not be more than 25AUD

Typical modern anime design. There was a time when anime wasn't so vile. Black Lagoon hearkens back to those glory days.

Visually uninspired, even accounting for the history of visual 3D experimentation in video games. Not saying SF should look like anime, but modern Naruto games have a more awe inspiring visual style than this.

I'd like something that looks more like a 3D representation of Capcom's awesome concept art. Not hideous action figures.

Really, it's purely aesthetic; but every other SF game has captured my imagination with it's visual splendor. This one just makes me want to never stop vomitting, for reasons exactly the opposite of BlazBlue character designs. :lol

Sorry to go OT, shutting up now. If you want to explore further please PM so I don't piss even more folks off. :X

The only characters that do look like visual diarrhoea shit are Ken and Ryu. It's like they're from a different game!

Only characters I'd want are:

Haggar - It's been too long!
Poison - Damn hot and sexy! I love dick!
Rolento - Badass

Final Fight is just an awesome series and I would love if Capcom would bring it back with a game the series deserves!

An indigenous Australian character would be far more interesting. Stepping aside physical/racial stereotypes, the character could have some kind of dream/psychic abilities for a cross between Rose and Dhalsim in terms of the cultural origin of his fighting style.

I feel like I'm 14 again discussing make believe wish characters :lol

Yeah, it is. Raiden from KOF also.

I think Sodom would fit well in the SF4 engine.

Counter- regular guess the hit level, EX would counter anything and juggle.
Grab would be Hondalike most likely, but with more range
Daikyo Burn would be heavy damage
Jitte would be A2, with EX Jitte being invincible/safe.

My money is on R.Mika, Rolento, Charlie, Elena, Yun plus 1-2 new characters. Hopefully one of the new characters is a new final boss cause Seth is lame as hell.

Just wondering, with some people clamoring for changes to the gameplay system, did Capcom make any major changes through the different iterations of SFIII or were they more minor like we've seen between vanilla and SSF4?

the parries were made better in each iteration from what I remember.

The game really needs Rolento as an option to Claw.

I am split on Charlie. I really liked him more than Guile, but I don't feel he would fit well in SSF4 while at the same time being different enough from his pal. He really needs all his supers from the alpha games.

The way I see it:

-Ex Sonic Boom would be two Sonic Booms delayed from each other, like his level one super in alpha (Sonic Break).

-His super would be Crossfire blitz (the one where he kicks/punches the opponent in a rush). It should be usable in combos, etc.

-One of his ultras would obviously be Somersault Justice (aka multiple flash kicks). The other, dunno, probably a better crossfire blitz.

Even then he still would feel like Guile. Maybe adding some counters like with Gouken, or making him slower but stronger.

So can anyone tell me why everyone thinks Poison is a man?

She was a woman in the japanese Final Fight, but changed to a man in the american version, to avoid the display of violence against women. Obviously this didn't bother them with Chun Li a couple of years later, but whatevs.

I always wondered if they just threw the Poison is a Man thing out there at last minute because they didnt want huge muscle bound dudes piledriving girls. I am curious if it was really planned from the beginning, or if the last second they changed it to avoid woman fury.

For Charlie's other ultra- how about borrowing Captain America's Final Justice?

Charlie's flash kick should be better then Guile's - make it like his A2 version. His Sonic Boom should be SF4 Guile though in terms of properties. Maybe take his air throw away, but give him an air flash kick that works like Tsubame Gaeshi from the later Samsho games. (overhead, can be done instant, but dead if blocked)

the improvement in universal overhead was pretty big
wasn't there a change to the execution of throws as well?

Oh that'd be sweet. He already had a reverse flash kick in the Marvel games, that worked a lot like Adon's. That would make him different enough.

e: Charlie would probably fit the storyline better; apparently he is the one who trained Abel.

I'd say Remy is a lock, since Abel is supposedly his father according the SF IV cutscene when he confronts Guile.

I'd also like to see Elena. There are already two punchers (Rog and Dudley), Capcom needs to add another kicker to join Juri.
