STALKER Call of Pripyat complete now available

Man, playing this with no HUD and a total disregard for the missions makes for an amazing experience. Video games at their finest.

As fantastic as the game looks in screenshots, I feel like anyone worth their chops has to experience this mod themselves, and have at least one moment of frantically trying to escape an emission, not really knowing if the cover you've found is suitable, and watching as an immense black cloud of death and fury approaches a helpless you.

And then have the game crash the nanosecond before it hits.

That would still be a nice vacation compared to my recent experience with SoC (end game), which consisted of me running through a zone with several soldiers and a helicopter shooting at me, only to push through almost to my destination just as an x-ray engine crash happens, closing out the game and destroying my progress.

Finally arrived in Pripyat. This game's fucking amazing, though I feel it has been a bit on the short side since it didn't take long plowing through the missions in the previous two areas. I hope there's a decent chunk left. :(

I'm surprised the game seems to crash so much for you. I've had two crashes so far, one was when I tried to help the former monoliths, and the second was an area transition crash. Could it be because of too little video/RAM memory in your cases?

Eh, I find any instances of running fraps to be instant death even after launch, as well as occasional driver issues or hardware problems.

I'm running on a 5850 with a… uh, 900 series quad intel CPU (don't have specs on me right now - on my phone. Think it's a 965 maybe?) which, with everything at max pushes out a reasonable 30fps at 1680x1050. Not the greatest performance ever, but enough for me not to immediately blame hardware.

It was just a once off crash for me, with a pinch of comedic typing. I'm not super concerned.

5970 and 12GB of DDR3 Ram ... I'm thinking the Engine is just a big ole' pile o' poo. I can start a multiplayer map but whenever I start up a "New Game", crash right before you get to the "Press a Key" thing.

Run very low res to get past "Press a Key" thing - then raise reslution in game later

Oh wow, didn't know that this mod was just released. I installed this yesterday on a whim and spent something like 7 hours in the Zone.

Btw, does this mod do something else for the drops other than the random cash? I'm playing on Stalker difficulty and I have almost 1k ammo for my AK and 50 bandages saved up and I just finished the first tasks in the second area.

Still haven't found a fix for the loading issue. Going from the game to the menu takes like 1-2 minutes.

Also, amusingly, STALKER is the only game that can make my PSU make a noise. Seriously, take off your headphones and listen closely to your PSU while you open up the game. While it switches through the videos, your PSU will make a buzzing noise. This have been true of the 3 PSUs I've tried the game on so far:

Enermax Modu 82+ 625W
Corsair 650TX
Corsair AX850

Are those panels tesselated or is it just some magical texturing voodoo going on? It looks so fucking great. The guys working on the textures are talented as fuck.

Tessellation only applies to character models I believe in COP. I think what your seeing is an advanced form of bump mapping that can fake depth much better than standard bump mapping. It looks good until you reach the very edge of the model.

I am looking for an overhaul mod that scraps the missions completely and drops you into the zone and opens all areas. Is there one that already exists?

Or alternatively different missions from the vanilla SP.

Actually, I've noticed a buzzing noise while you have the main menu (ESC) up. It's like a high-pitched, low-volume noise, and it's ONLY happening when you don't go into a sub-menu. Very strange. :/ Haven't tried to localize exactly where the sound is coming from, but I assumed it was coming from my monitor (e.g. static picture and some incorrect frequency setting causing some issue).

If you have monitor speakers, I've heard the PSU noise propagate itself to there. But yeah, the sound actually comes from the PSU. I have no idea why. It's the wierdest thing ever.

Been playing this alot since the complete mod.

I figured I'd try Call of Pripyat again with the Complete mod out now. I was having loading and freezing issues with the mod, so I decided to delete the game and re-install from scratch (without the mod) to see if it would help.

It takes about 2-3 minutes to load the game initially, and the game pauses for about 15-30 seconds after it loads. Every time I enter the menu, the game pauses for 15-45 seconds.

My hardware:

Intel 2500K @ 4.6GHz (stable)
4GB DDR3-1333
2x GTX 570
Corsair AX850 PSU
Intel G2 80GB SSD
Samsung 2TB 5400RPM HDD
Windows 7 x64

I've tried:

- Running at the highest, and the lowest graphical options...from DX11 to DX9 Static Lighting.
- Running in administrative mode.
- Disabling EAX
- Running the game off my Intel 80GB G2 SSD (thought it might be a HDD issue)
- Disabling SLI
- Disabling Aero
- Reverting to official latest video drivers
- Running Steam in Offline mode
- Disabling all background applications

I'm running out of options here. Anyone experience this issue?

edit: apparently other people are having the issue. No clue how to fix it yet:

Fixed my issue.

Got a cracked exe for the game, put all the bin files in the main game directory, and now it works.

Steam version of the game is broken.

Did you get the mod working, then? It looks great. Sucks that you've had so many issues with it. I think we all did.

Looks like Pavel is planning on putting out an optimization patch.

Also, I'm having the same x-ray crash after "press any key" but I don't have an ati crossfire setup.

I fixed my x-ray crash by not using DX10. I have a 4870x2.

Yeah it's working. I mean, it looks decent. The textures are astounding, and the general atmosphere is great. One thing is pretty annoying though: if you look down towards the ground as you're running forward, there are ambient occlusion artifacts all over the place that move depending on how you aim your view and move.

I'm running the game maxed @ 1080p. Runs great on my system...no dips below 60fps so far.

i fixed it by playing with textures at 80% :-/

loading times are still shit.

You running the Steam version? Cracked exe fixed the loading and saving issue for me. Loading a new game takes around 30 seconds now with maxed graphics. It took around 3-4 minutes before (and would freeze for 15-45 seconds every time I either saved or entered the menu).

mh i've tried a cracked exe but that produced another crash.

If you have the Steam version, get the cracked xrengine exe and put it in the main directory (not the bin directory). Then dump all of the bin directory in the main directory as well.

The retail and Steam versions of the game have different directory structures for some reason, and I think that's largely one of the reasons why it doesn't perform properly.

doesn't crash anymore but doesn't load much faster either.
weird, the first STALKER wasn't so buggy. and it actually started with fraps... this one doesn't...

Updates have broken the game somewhat. It was fine for me not long ago. No issues since using the cracked exe and moving files around though.

I'm running the Steam version here.

Someone PM me the crack so I can try Exodu5's trick.
