Star Citizen Alpha 2.0 | The 'Verse Awakens

Guess who...

Wow. The way the face contorts with each eye movement is practically perfect. Really impressive.

Yeah, the muscular movement around the eyes was the impressive part there.

Man, I remember when having actual polygons move on the face was a big deal. Now we have stupidly fine details like this. What will we be looking at another couple decades down the line as impressive?

I think the next big challenge will be improving physics simulation. Ships that deform on impact, fracturing and cratering surfaces, skin contact, stuff like that.

Foveated rendering should feel like we've fast forwarded by a decade or so when it drops, especially once competition really starts for improvements in eye tracking hardware.

Physics are certainly an area well see improvement in, but that's more mechanics than pure visual detail. We can fake that stuff now. Improved physics will allow it to be dynamic.

Combined with foveated rendering though, it might allow realistic hair. That's still a huge weakness right now. The cycles it frees up might also be useful for light field rendering. Assuming we even have light field displays in a couple of decades. Would be the death knell of fake bokkeh depth of field, and a huge boon to VR (something I assume will be suitably mainstream by then).

Not going to lie, the hype for NMS, like for many people, transfered here. But this time I'm keeping my expectations in check. Thinking about jumping in when 3.0 comes out but I'm not sure if my computer can handle minimum requirements. I pride myself being able to max out Skyrim with a ton of mods, DA:I and such but those are really old at this point.

I don't think most people realize just how big a game Squadron 42 is going to be.

I honestly don't even know what it's supposed to be. I'm expecting nothing amazing so that I can be truely fiddled when they start showing it off properly, maybe this October.

Should be fine on medium, looks really good even on that setting.

I've been paying a lot of attention to Star Citizen itself, but not so much SQ42 because of spoilers. I'm still not entirely sure what it involves other than a series of missions with you in the UEE Navy, some of which is aboard an Idris.

And the script is about 1255 pages long. For comparison the Witcher 3 is 1900 pages, Mass Effect 1 is 1200 pages.

The game is supposed to be around 20 hours.

And that's probably just the first playthrough. A lot of those pages are because CR wants SQ42 to be highly replayable, with different paths and outcomes.

A 20 hour long space FPS/RPG/Whatever it is sounds amazing considering the last proper space game we had of this sort was over a decade ago, wasn't it?

That's silly. Both games are good.

No need for fighting.

B..but there must be only one!

Seriously, they're two different games aiming to do different things. For every bit over overlap, there's something disparate between the two. It's fine to disagree with the way either game has gone about with its design, or how the companies have dealt with various things, but the fanboyism between the two is just stupid as hell.

Salty in that some rather try to shit on Star Citizen and their development. Rather then play their game.

They probably need all that negative energy to play Elite, otherwise they'd fall asleep on their overpriced HOTAS since the game is so boring.

jk don't kill me

elite dangerous thread on frontier and some members in the elite dangerous thread on here. .

Shrug. It is Burny, from what I've seen he is salty about everything, he had to resort to whining in SC thread in the frontier forums. A thread frequented by all sorts of savoury characters and positive opinions of SC gets you banned.

Hi all, just joined up. Still trying to find my bearings and understand how these servers work (are we all on the same?).

Submitted my application for the NeoGAF corp, username: V1carious

Welcome to the party! Came at a good time, exciting shit is coming up soon.

As far as the server, there are no "servers". We all get to play in the same universe afaik.

So any big news or new releases since the GC demo? Any ETA for 3.0?
No news yet, big news on October 10th at Citizencon.

Hi and welcome citizen.

I accepted your Application to the ORG.

Right, there's no separate server selection like WoW, but for now people get randomly assigned to instance servers for each game.

If we all add each other as friends, we can join each other's sessions though.
Click "Follow" from the profile link on the org spreadsheet. Hopefully one day this won't be necessary considering we're all in the same org, lol. It won't work unless both people have added each other.

It can also be done by opening profiles from the org page:
