Meh, just some random hollywood sci fi trailer. Nothing star trek about it. What a waste of the franchise.

Yeah except Starfleet, the Enterprise, Spock, Kirk, space battles, etc. Better to leave the franchise dead on TV than take it in a slightly new direction on film.

Haven't liked the teaser or this trailer as much as the "FIRE EVERYTHING" trailer, but then again, that's like my all time favorite movie trailer ever (Never into ST, never cared about it at all, but that trailer pretty much instantly made me want to see ST2009).

Still, assuming they get rid of the nagging plot holes, I expect this one to be better than the first.

What are the overall plans for this franchise? Would Paramount kill off a major character in this? Is this supposed to be the typical trilogy and finished, or, can we expect 4,5, etc Abrams films?

I see this as a continuing series, not really a trilogy... maybe Abrams might do three, his own trilogy, but I can see the universe continuing.

I love Star Trek, and I'm really excited for this film. There has been great Trek, and there has been horrible Trek, and while 2009 was a departure from what fans consider to be Trek, it was definitely more great than it was horrible.

I'm open to thematic changes to the series. I just hope we get a TV show at some point, so we can get more Trek pacing while fans of the reboot get action-heavy Trek.

I'm also a total slave to kickass sci fi trailers, so I can't help but be totally pumped for this.

Yeah everyone wants to be Nolan, so it will probably be a "three act structure".

I can see Abrams going for that... the man can't make Star Trek movies his whole life, I suppose.

But this a universe that can definitely continue after the initial trilogy. Perhaps a second trilogy, I dunno. Maybe Kahn will show up in Star Trek Reboot IV when they want to get people to come in.

I wanna see this universe continue. And I hope the next one isn't another four years off.

I feel that Trek on TV is best suited for the exploration/moral dilemma content, while Trek on film is at its best when it's the bigger action content (09, Wrath).

Otherwise you end up with a movie like star trek insurrection. It would have been a good TNG episode but as a film, not so much.

That Nolan just won't stop reinventing cinema. I'd certainly never heard of three act structures before Nolan came along. Guy is a pioneer of storytelling.

I'm not crediting Nolan with inventing "trilogy".

He also didn't invent the chaotic plotting manipulating bad guy who gets himself captured as "all part of the plan", but that doesn't mean that Skyfall and Into Darkness didn't ape it and it's overall tone from TDK specifically.

I am saying that the mere fact that Nolan stopped at three makes it more likely that Abrams will make it to three/stop at three.

Completely agree.

Treks 4 and 6 were really good and show how flexible the formula of the series is. Hopefully a future movie will go back to some of the more drama/adventure aspects of the series rather than just "kill the bad guy" schlock that was the '09 movie. Not that it was bad, it was the best Trek since First Contact but the franchise has so much more potential than that.

Alright guys, alright, million dollar idea:

Star Trek television show. On HBO. Starring the cast of the Trek films (Chris Pine, et al). On HBO. Full special effects. Multi-episode arcs.

It's possible that in this universe, the Botany Bay was found and the pods were moved to some secure facility at Starfleet HQ or maybe they were moved to London. Perhaps Cumberbatch is trying to free them and/or is one of them that was thawed out.

Or maybe they are frozen/stored on Earth and revived there instead of on the Botany Bay? While this may not be a Khan reboot, it is really really looking like one - which is unfortunate.

Well, would you have thought that Game of Thrones would be the success it was?
Game of Thrones features a cast of young film stars and not a range of character actors?

Although I guess Quinto's career hasn't taken off and Pine needs to prove he can do Jack Ryan.

Right, these are not exactly top shelf actors.

Game of Thrones had Sean Bean for crying out loud.

I don't understand why people don't want a Khan reboot. Khan would have completely different motivations and we don't know what he'd do if he didn't take a wife on the Enterprise then get exiled to a shitty planet.

Some of us dont want a Khan reboot because we already had one awesome Khan movie. Just give us another awesome movie with a different villain that hasn't had a chance to shine.

No, if you're going to do an established franchise on HBO then do a big budget remake of Babylon 5, since that was a show that:

1. Was fucking amazing
2. Was built with arcs in mind
3. Has a more interesting and well constructed universe

But I'd rather just see a new HBO SF from no established franchise so that the creators had room to breathe and include as many sex scenes as they wanted without feeling like a betrayal of a beloved series.

I would be fine with full HD remasters of Babylon 5. Please.

Pretty please.
