Star Trek: Patrick Stewart's Jean-Luc Picard Series Will Arrive at the End of 2019

https://www.cbr.com/star-trek-patrick-stewart-series-2019-release-date/

Following the massive success of the CBS All Access series Star Trek: Discovery, fans of the long-running sci-fi franchise have a lot to look forward to. Not only is Star Trek: Short Treks -- a limited series of four short episodes -- currently airing on the streaming service, there is also an animated series in the works courtesy ofRick and Morty writer Mike McMahan titled Star Trek: Lower Decks. But that's not all -- the reason most fans are excited about Star Trek once again is because Sir Patrick Stewart will return to the franchise in a new live-action series that will see him reprise his famous Star Trek: The Next Generation role of Captain Jean-Luc Picard.

While the project is currently in the writing phase, there is very little we know of the actual series other than the fact that it will feature the new adventures of an older Picard. In fact, we don't even have an official title yet. However, thanks to a new report from The Wrap, we now have a partial release date: Stewart's new Star Trekseries should blast off sometime near the end of 2019 -- roughly a year from now.

The news comes from the CBS Corporation CCO David Nevins, who revealed at the 46th Annual UBS Global Media and Communications Conference the projected star start date for the series. "In 2019, its not one Star Trek, it’s two Star Treks. Discovery at the beginning of the year, and Picard will start at the end of the year," Nevins told reporters.

The upcoming Star Trek series is said to go in unexpected territory, given that many years will have passed for the characters since fans saw him last. It was previously reported that Sir Patrick Stewart himself was helping shape the vision of the series and the character, and that he was challenging the writers of the new series to be bold and different.

This series is going to be shit. Modern writers have got all the subtlety of Mass Effect Andromeda when it comes to social issues.

Partly I can't wait... but unless he's going to manning a ship again, people are probably going to be disappointed...

Also if it's the team behind discovery...well... it just isn't going to be very "star trek" ...

Set a course for another Rian Johnson's Luke Skywalker-esque situation.

I have no confidence they will respect his character. Will probably be used to signal-boost whichever female leads they're pushing at the time. Watch them omit all the previous women like Polaski, Troi, Guinan, and Crusher even though their actresses are still alive.

They should just let Rainn Wilson direct all of them because the last Short Trek, Escape Artist was great.

The title will be called Grape Trek and focus on the roller coaster ride of owning and maintaining a vin yard in the south of France. His whacky side kick Wesley gets into scrapes each week inevitably leading to the cry of "WESSSSLLLLLLYYYYY!" by Picard which quickly becomes his new catchphrase.

you know what, they should just keep that title:
Star Trek: Patrick Stewart's Jean-Luc Picard

Also, Patrick Stewart is apparently a huge pain in the ass to work with and he only did this because they basically spread eagle for him. He's more or less the stereotypical left wing actor nut, so get ready for all kinds of hamfisted political preaching in this show. It's going to be so bad. I might not even try to watch it.

I hope he doesn't end up #MeToo'd like a lot of the rest of them.

It'd kill me to hear that, but it happens so much with these sorts.

Here we go: more doom and gloom.

It's going to be SO BAD.

Fantastic, when I think Star Trek I think of octogenarians in shitty action scenes. Hopefully they make the dune buggy look good this time at least :(

Man, they should have made that Captain Worf show instead. I couldn't get into discovery and voyager, and enterprise, love the rest though. JJAbrams was the wrong director for Star Trek.

Jonathan Freaks kept campaigning to be the director and nobody gave him the job even though he directed some of the best movies and episodes.

I just want a Trek show that is Trek...like TOS and TNG. Boldy going and exploring new places.

But for whatever reason, they don't want Trek to be that anymore...but instead we get that in The Orville.

Right, I thought the whole point of Star Trek was an episodic approach where each episode told a neat little self contained story? A season long Star Trek story just sounds so boring to me, the variety is what makes it fun.

Is live action episodic television basically dead? I can't think of a single series today that isn't a serialized season long story, at least it's a lot rarer than it used to be.

At any rate they need to make a series about the adventures of Picard's American cousin, John Lee Packard!

Best Captsin imo and I loved the Star Trek the next generation series. Hope this is similar and great!!! Bring back Worf please and some guest appearances from Dax (deep space) I liked her and 7of9 two cuties at the time and I'm sure Anika Hansen has aged well.

You mean like Star Trek? Star Trek is pretty political and it was, with TNG, very much atheist, socialist, and supporting equality. It is an established quality of Star Trek. Picard always was a huge proponent of ethical behaviour and it would be a shame if this was not a big topic of the new series as well.

They probably cannot afford Guinan. But Polaski was so great, the best main cast woman of TNG, too bad she was written out so quickly to be replaced by the boring Crusher. I loved her brashness and her cynical nature.

Who is Anika Hansen? Anyway, do you really want Ezri Dax? I mean, she was fine, but she was there for only one season. Jadzia Dax is obviously not an option.

I mean Jeri Ryan who played Seven of 9. And I was referring to the Trill Jadzia Dax.
