Star Wars Battlefront 2017, what would you change?

Mentioned this before but we had a good solid decade's worth of prequel stuff. I don't think it'll be missed and to progress into sequel territory would be natura for DICE.

Call me crazy but a Battlefront focused on the battles that take place during the Clone Wars series would destroy a Battlefront based on all 9 movies.

That would open the door to weapon a larger scale of weapon variety, a huge character roster, more vehicles on both sides, more planets. The amount of content it could have would be amazing.

Also I want Hero Assault to return in Battlefront 2, I loved that.

Single player campaign. No dlc, all content on day 1.

Done.

I've got some bad news for you mate.

Battlefield 1 shows that EA/DICE are going hard on the Premium / 'Ultimate Edition' / Early Access crap.

People are lapping it up.

This. Prequels + Clone Wars TV show content = more stuff that any of the movies combined. Leaving it out is pretty spiteful.

From how Operations was described to me it sounds like the Battle Station mode in the Death Star DLC is pretty similar. You start in space attacking a Star Destroyer that is guarding the Death Star. If the Rebels can destroy it they land in the Death Star hanger and attempt to free and escort R2-D2 to safety, R2 has the Death Star plans. If the Rebels are successful they go back out into space and attempt to run the Trench and blow up the Death Star. Its three maps woven together in a narrative.

I've yet to play the Death Star DLC (unfortunately and I need to change that), but yeah, I'd say that sounds extremely similar. I REALLY need to get on that DLC, ugh.

Gameplay is top notch imo, and I wouldn't change it.

What I would like is more maps, and not just different maps cut out of the same region. I want more planets to explore in general.

And a substantial campaign would be nice.

It may be a labor problem or a Disney initiative. The vast majority of the assets in the 2015 game were created with photogrammery. Actual props were scanned into the computer. There are zero physical props for any of the vehicles, clone troopers, or droids from the PT. It would probably take a lot of labor and be expensive to recreate them manually. While the ST uses practical effects everywhere possible so there are plenty of props.

Also outside of mobile games and some characters showing up in Rebels, Disney has not even mentioned the prequels. I think their focus is on the ST and OT only

I mean I agree that the Clone Wars stuff does open up more interesting gameplay opportunities but let's face it. EA/DICE are catering to a broader audience who are currently in hype mode for the newer films coming. Apart from the more dedicated fans of the franchise, they won't see a need for focusing on the prequel era. That said, there's still plenty of opportunities for using sequel-era stuff to a similar effect as what you would want given it's pretty much uncharted territory and anything goes. Also, maybe the prequels could be good material for a big expansion pack at least.

The core gameplay is fun but the depth was not there to keep me playing long term like BF games usually do. Get rid of vehicle power ups, put in classes, way more weapons, expand to 64 players, etc.

Also of course SP campaign is crucial. Hearing the good reviews of BF1 SP gives me a lot of hope.

I sort of enjoyed Battlefront (the new one) but the things I hated most:

- team matchmaking seemed off, with games rarely being close and one side always dominating badly. Needs better hidden MMR, etc so it can balance teams better.

- like Titanfall 1, the curve of "level to get more stuff" seemed way off. Everything cool seemed too far away, like the skins at level 50+ and if you play casually its probably months and months away. Need to mix this up better so people who play a few hours a week or month still can get something interesting for their time.

- definitely SP campaign, while it may only be used for 6-8 hours by half your population, it makes your game MEMORABLE. I have little connection to battlefront, I just pop in every few months, play an hour or two, get bored, and stop.

They are missing out on so much potential new content with excluding the prequel trilogy. Hopefully it will be distinct enough from the first Battlefront.

The best parts of Rebels are basically Clone Wars cameos and Vader. =P

Thread is about what I would change for Battlefront 2017. I would love to see Clone Wars content. I feel it just lends itself more to this type of game. OT stuff is just super rehashed for me.

I can see why it would be slightly problematic, but I still don't see why the lack of actual props would be huge holdup. While there may have been no physical props for a lot of items/weapons/armor in the PT, companies like Master Replicas did produce high quality physical props. Don't see why they couldn't just scan them if needs be.

Also I don't think Disney are ignoring the PT as such. They haven't set anything in the era yet but it's regularly referenced as/when needed in all the new cannon so far.

Maps that aren't snaggy as shit would a great start.

Better load times.

Lots of great suggestions in here that aren't worth repeating.

Oh! Spawn on my squad, not just one guy. That's crazy :(

How about a story mode.

I purchased a used copy if the new Star Wars: Battlefront back in August and was profoundly disappointed. The graphical fidelity and sound design are nothing short of amazing as is the level of detail and authenticity however, it's all undercut by some of the most anemic, shallow, repetitive and hollow gameplay I've ever seen in a modern game. It lacks any sort of depth, complexity or intriguing/engaging mechanics. It's boring and feels like a real chore to play after the first few hours and the Star Wars nostalgia eventually wears off.

- Redesign almost the entire combat system, I'm not a fan of the casual arcade combat

- Switch to a class-based system like the original games (Scout, Support, Assault, Engineer and Pilot for example)

- Scrap the entire star card system and just limit certain upgrades/abilities to the specific classes

- Redesign the flight controls and get the AT-AT's off the rails this time around

- Player customization, utilize an RPG style facial customization screen. Currently all the different heads/hairstyles/emotes that are locked behind artifical currency/level gates is just plain stupid

- Tweak the heroes, they're all completely OP (and I'm guessing that's by intentional design), fighting a hero is like running face first into a meat grinder

- Space battles

- More maps (and not just 3-4 maps on the same planet)

There's probably a few other things but in all honesty I hardly expect DICE or whomever is making the next game will be make any drastic changes to the "specifically designed for 8-year olds" formula.

Classes.
No star cards - this whole system sucks.
All modes available for offline.
The ability to switch off customisation - so you just don't see it.
Separate OT and ST eras. I don't want to see ST Stormtroopers running around with OT troopers.
Less guns, just better ones. Dice keeps throwing new stuff out and most of it is useless because they've not play tested anything.
Less bugs obviously.
The environments are dead. I'd like more indigenous aliens and creatures roaming around, more life to the maps.

- Much better melee combat (actual cool lightsaber battles would be nice)
- Space battles
- At least one mode with seamless transition between ships and on-foot

I would love a broader selection of weapons and a server browser with custom servers so it I want to play whatever Episode 7 level with 500% tickets, I can. Assuming there's a BF conquest added.

What they had was awesome, I think the general consensus is that we just wanted more of it. I personally would go for a deeper unlocking system though.

Please...just make it feel like Rogue Leader/Squadron....at least for a few missions....please!

I don't like the Air combat at all in the current game :(

Make Battlefront play like Battlefront.

Open vehicles up to on the map things to jump in and not tokens, split-screen online, better more interesting maps, add classes, single player, and that's basically it.

The new game was far too simplified, and Battlefront wasn't exactly complex to begin in with- but it was varied enough to offer a lot of engaging gameplay.

Have a single player campaign in the vein of BF:Bad Company with Marlowe, Sarge, Haggard and Sweetwater reimagined as a misfit squad of storm troopers gone rogue.

Replace the people behind the terrible balancing.

Remove the pulse rifle, explosive shot, and the mine/grenade that forces you into a mini game

I've got some bad news for you mate.

Battlefield 1 shows that EA/DICE are going hard on the Premium / 'Ultimate Edition' / Early Access crap.

People are lapping it up.

A man can wish.

My buddy just bought Battlefield 1 the other day. Came to almost $200 after tax. What has this industry come to?

I would add actual depth. Ability to choose spawn point, classes like the originals, non instances vehicles and equal vehicles for both sides regardless of the map. Basically more like BF2.

Firstly make the vehicles on the map instead of pick ups, and back the huge assortment of tanks from the earlier games so the Rebels have more defense against the At-sts.
Bring back a dedicated class system like assault, enginner, scout, support etc. Brings actually roles to the battlefield and widens the variety of combat encounters instead of just everyone has assault rifles.I say modify the star card system so it works as like general ones for grenades and rockets, but then specific class based ones for gadgets.
On that topic nerf the range of all weapons and make them all harder to use. I shouldn't be able to outsnipe snipers with the DL-44. Add weight, recoil and satisfying punch you get from weapons such as in BF1.
Change hero pickups to be rewarded to the best player on the match instead of anybody can pick it up.
Add battlefields from all three eras, so clone wars, galactic civil war and whatever the new one will be called.
Maps need to be more like the DLC maps rather than the launch maps, actual facilities to fight in instead of open field meat grinders.
On that note increase health for the base troopers, you have so little and can be killed so easily that defending objectives half the time becomes a meatgrinder.
Multiplayer galactic conquest mixed with BF1 operations, lets fucking goooo!
Space battles!
Double down on all battlefield elements like the originals had. There was a reason they worked so well and were that fun.
Edit: oh and four player squads! And like 4 hour campaign but im not married to this.

- Do something different than the token system for vehicles and heroes
- Some destruction
- Polish the hero gameplay, I found it to be a tad on the janky side, especially the melee
- Rework the gunplay, give it some depth
- A game mode similar to conquest from Battlefield
- Raise player cap
- Full control over starfighters, no dodge/roll button
- Remove the combat roll
- Server browser

Despite the prequels being the worst movies they actually have some of the best locations, factions and Jedi/Sith which would translate really well in a Dice game. Ffs.

Before we begin, don't bother posting if you are just going to make a snarky drive-by or just hate on the game. This is for honest criticism and not bashing.

That said, we know that the next Battlefront game will be coming out November next year. Now that the 2015 game has been out for almost a year now let's talk about what we want changed. Let's get some facts about what we know for sure first.

1. There will be a campaign this time.
2. The game will be focused on the Original Trilogy and Sequel Trilogy. The Prequel Trilogy will not be included.
3. And let's assume that the core gameplay isn't changing significantly. Meaning the gunplay will be similar, there won't be any bonuses for using ADS, there won't be penalties for moving while shooting, etc.

What I'd like to see changed is the following:

1. Improved rolling, let you combat roll in 5 directions (left, right, left diagonal, right diagonal, forward) instead of just left and right now.
2. Vehicles aren't tokens anymore but some kind of system to prevent griefing and vehicle theft.
3. Heroes aren't tokens but are assigned to players based on some sort of metric.
4. Classic Conquest is included as a game mode.
5. Player count buffed to maybe 48, at least as high as it can go and keep a solid 60fps.
6. No more weapon or gadget unlocks, only cosmetics.
7. Server browser.
8. No AI in space/Fighter Squadron.
9. Maybe some sort of lenient class system.
10. No melee outside of heroes.

I love Battlefront. I love the core gameplay, I think it's nearly perfect, but the above are things I'd like changed.
Where has this been confirmed?

.

Not officially confirmed, but talks with devs on twitter and the little snippets they showed at E3 basically confirm that they are only focusing on the OT and ST. I mean the majority of the game's assets come from photogrammery, where a real prop is scanned into the computer. There wasn't a single real clone trooper or Droid prop made for the prequels. It would probably end up being very time consuming and expensive to recreate all of the prequel stuff from scratch, and now that they have a library of OT assets the new game won't be as laborious to make as the last one which means it'll likely have more content out of the gate.

And yes, a story campaign is 100% confirmed. EA Motive is making it while DICE Sweden is making the multiplayer .

The Battle Station mode in the Death Star DLC is like this. You start in space trying to destroy a Star Destroyer guarding the Death Star, then you go inside the Death Star to rescue R2-D2, and then it ends with attempting the Trench Run to blow up the Death Star.

Is it just Disney or is EA also trying to kill off anything pre OT. Why is the industry trying to kill the prequels and TOR era star wars. It's making me really sad. Regardless of the movie quality the world building was top notch for the prequel. Interesting locales, good enemy types etc. Great for games. I'd argue in fact they make the best games, at least in regard to canon content.

To answer your question though, many gave already covered my main sticking points.

So for me it's bring back the classic game types, galactic campaign with couch co-op/vs and online co-op/vs.

Additionally or Alternately focus all of their efforts on making the big game type modes the complete focus. Have more maps and include non token vehicles etc. It really seems like they tried to appease a bunch of niches and it would have been better to just focus on going all out Star Wars large battle scenarios.

It's simple, just make it Battlefield. :3

Also, it's been confirmed that Jade Raymond's studio Motive is making a SP campaign for this game.

No prequel trilogy stuff? Disappointing if true. A bunch of my ideas are prequels-based lol.

Battle of Geonosis would be pretty cool.
Add in a horde mode of Jedi vs. Droid Army like in AOTC:

Ground to Space maps.
Classes with specific loadouts instead of Star Cards.
Campaign mode
