Star Wars Battlefront are there PS4 advantages?

Not really console advantages but Xbox One has some Star Wars controllers coming out in less than 4 weeks that aren't listed for PS4. lol

Those controllers are ugly as fuck lol. C3PO Gold 360 controller > All those Xbox One ones lol.

I've been gaming for over 30 years so you can keep your "tip".

And how dare you blame consumers, when they were completely misled by not only EA, but every fucking journalist and even YouTube personalities like Jack Frags who was putting up multiplayer videos left and right leading up to launch!

You and the majority of GAF.

I just don't see what's so hard about waiting a few days/weeks for a Digital Foundry verdict if technical issues bother you so much. EA wouldn't release a lot of their games in buggy states if it weren't for consumers being so willing to bend over for any old thing. Yes, it's dishonest on EA's part, but that's how advertising has worked for decades, and if people keep falling for it, then it's just as much their fault as it is EA's.

I didn't take it that he was blaming consumers but just giving a reminder that these companies are going to continue to do this and to protect yourself, don't preorder.

ive already preordered digitally on PS4 heaven help me

Well, to be fair LevelCap and I believe JackFrags both mentioned (prior to launch at the Youtube Capture Event) that multiplayer matches were crashing but they weren't allowed to capture them. I believe they also mentioned that Dice told them that would be fixed by launch.

If he did that's great, but I'd personally never heard it. I'm only going by the videos I watched at the time.

Had I known I probably would've been more cautious about a day one purchase.

I have a possible dumb question. I already digitally pre-ordered the standard edition of Battlefront for the PS4. If I decide to upgrade to the deluxe edition for 10 bucks, do I get the stormtrooper cover/icon?

really hope there is no content difference...tired of that shit. Will probably be getting on xbox one because thats where my friends are

Don't know why this would matter. Titanfall came out almost 1.5 years ago, even if there are 5k people playing online right now. I can find matches within seconds.

now in this context, does it matter if there are 5million or 3million people are playing?

I don't know if this is relevant but DestinyGaf is predominantly ps4 so if you want to find people to play with on gaf it's a lot easier if you play the game on the ps4.

This game looks like an updated BF4 in Star Wars skin. Not trolling either because I liked BF4
when it worked properly.

I don't like the look of Battlefield games but Star Wars looks beautiful. It might have some resemblance cause it's the same developer using the same engine but it doesn't look like a resigned BF4 imo

The likely facts are that its going to look it's best on pc, next best on ps4, and worst on Xbox one, they should all run at 60 however, I suspect that even if they can bring the Xbox one version to 900p it's going to have considerably toned down effects, and this is coming from someone who will be buying this on Xbox one this novmeber as I don't have a ps4, knowing this stuff doesn't tone down my excitement for the game in the least, just know what you're getting into with the versions.

Framerate is my first concern for that kind of game, resolution comes after. I remembered that BF Hardline on xbox one had a better framerate overall. 720P though.

I thought EA Access users get to play the game 5 days earlier on XB1? Try before you buy.

Ignore if I'm wrong.

Yes, with EA Access it has been confirmed you get to try the game five days early (it hasn't been confirmed how long you can play, previous games have allowed up to 10 hours).

I expect both the PS4 & XB1 versions to be 900p. When BF4 was built the XB1 SDK was pretty awful according to a lot of developers, so I don't think you can use BF4 as an example. In Hardline's case, that game was a complete joke. Clearly there was no effort by the devs to do any real work and improve anything. As a matter of fact, it was graphically worse than BF4.

900p for X1 would be excellent.

This isn't BF4 though. Looks much nicer

Where did we get the 720p Battlefront info from anyways? Did they show a demo or something

I don't think EA would be stupid enough to release this game in a broken state. It's their first major Star Wars game, screwing it up would ruin their relationship with Disney and kneecap a potentially major franchise for them.

Yeah that's true. They don't want to screw that relationship up. A lot of money to be made there

It's assumed since PS4 at E3(And Gamescom?) was running at 900p, the same as BF4 on PS4.

That makes sense I guess. You never know though

Hoping both versions have a relatively steady frame rate

Less players overall means a higher chance of playing without someone out of your region, thus increasing latency.

I am fine with 900p if it runs at a consistent 55-60fps. I say 55-60 because some drops are fine and usually unnoticeable. Its when it drops hard and stays down for a while that it becomes a problem.

The actual love and attention DICE has shown to this game alongside of the memory of Battlefield 4's disastrous launch, and the potential damage a bad launch could do the EA/Disney relationship. I would actually be surprised if SWBF launched broken.

DICE has said it time and again, they want a stable, solid core game. Thats why to some people it seems like they are leaving out features that they "expect". Instead of going balls to the walls with feature creep like the last two Battlefields have, they seem to be scaling down and focusing on making a good game.

That is why I preordered.

Lol love this downplaying. Meanwhile we have incredible looking games on consoles like Batman Arkham Knight, The Order 1886, Driveclub, and Killzone that certainly don't look like anything I've ever seen on a netbook (are those even a thing anymore?) nor a mid-range GPU from 2012.

What a post. I said wow.

Sorry, I'm not really that negative about the new consoles, but they do have their limitations. (I have a PS4 and like it quite a bit, planning to get an Xbone soon.) When someone asks "Why is this not 1080p on PS4?" in an indignant huff, there's a pretty simple answer: The PS4 can't run this game at 1080p with a target framerate of 60 FPS. Hell, it's having a hard enough time meeting that target at 1600x900.

I don't know what more there is to say. DICE aren't totally incompetent developers who are massively under-utilizing the new consoles, and EA isn't making the game look/run worse than it potentially could just for shits and giggles. If people were asking the question "Why didn't they make this game 1080p30 instead?" the answer would be a little different.

It's easy to say that, but not everyone has had bad experiences with prior versions, so I don't feel consumers are just willingly bending over.

Still, hopefully lessons are learned, and like you said, consumers wait for some sort of verdict on the game, before taking the plunge.

Yeah, but these games aren't truly next-gen games, and a lot has happened with Xbox One since then.

If you mean that devs will learn to squeeze better performance and visuals out of the new consoles as time goes on, I agree, but I wouldn't expect a dramatic transformation where Battlefield 5 is suddenly 1080p60 on both.

You're right that the Xbone has seen some SDK updates that give devs access to a bit more CPU and GPU resources. Maybe Battlefront will run at a slightly higher intermediate resolution, but I doubt it'd match the PS4's without other sacrifices.

What's the framerate for BF4 on consoles?

In 32 player modes its almost always near 55-60 fps. Conquest is where it can go down a lot.

And in Battlefronts case they reduced the player count and destruction. So it should reach at least a more constant 60fps. Maybe the final game is more polished in regards to fps.

First Hardline beta to the second beta was very impressive in terms of performance boost. First beta was really rough, especially on PS4.

Only games that have better framerates on x1 are games marketed by MS. I'm certain Ps4 will have the technical advantage as it should.

What's the framerate for BF4 on consoles?
On PS4 it's much smoother now than it was at launch. Modes with less than 64 players are a very solid 60 and the campaign is pretty much locked. It can get sketchy with 64 players though but I expect Battlefront will hold up pretty well with 40 players max and less environmental destruction.

I am glad that they have improved the AA by a good deal. The FXAA added blur combined with 900p made it quite blurry and it could get really jaggy at times. I'd love 1080p but 900p/60 with the significant visual improvement will still be impressive. 900p is unfortunate at 30fps but the added temporal resolution of 60fps helps offset it.

If your friend is picking the same console to play on, go with PS4. Better performance (probably), and higher res.

As long as the IQ is better and frame rate is more stable than BF4 I'm cool with 900p. Not a bad looking game on PS4, but sometimes it's really hard to tell what the fuck is going on when action picks up. Bit of a mess in some multiplayer situations.

Remember guys, most console gamers don't give a shit about any of this. Even if you try to explain the difference to them, if they don't stop you halfway through, they still either won't get it or won't care about the difference. They're going to play the game on the console they have with the friends they have. It's not like 900p 60fps is some kind of diabolical betrayal of your trust.

Most people using 1080p TVs at the distance they currently sit at can't even see a difference between 720p and 1080p.

My ex missus maybe she couldn't tell the difference between a 68cm 4:3 TV & a 42" 16:9 plasma until it was pointed out lol but to say most people is a bit of a broad brush to paint...
