Star Wars Battlefront Beta Xbox One Frame-Rate Test

Last gen was an infinitely more impressive jump over the previous gen than this one has been.

That noise you hear is logic flying right over your head. Vwoooooooosh.
I know. It's terrible when the logic not fit your personal lame post. Lol. The ignorance of this post it's embarrassing.
I'd like to know about this 'terrible' console generation if really you remember the standard performance on ps360 of similar games.

At what point do PC style graphical options become available to PS4 and Xbox One so people have the option to say push the graphical fidelity at the cost of framerate or make it run as close to 60fps locked as possible?

I'm kinda hoping this generation ends up being short, both consoles will be lacking in 2-3 years.

How the hell are people blaming DICE for the 720p resolution on Xbox One and 900p resolution on PS4? This is one of the best looking 60fps games on the consoles, and in fact, looks better than some 30fps games, so I think people should be happy that they're targeting that smooth frame rate at a really high graphical fidelity.

There's only so much they can do with locked hardware; and the more smoother 60fps - and it's not incompetency as IMO, DICE are one of the most skilled developers out there; it's just about working with what you've got + targeting that 60fps on [mostly] high PC settings on < $400 hardware.

They're doing amazing with what they've got and really are getting a lot out of the hardware.

Figured it might be 720p on the X1 as it is 900p on the PS4.

Neither systems hardware is capable of 60fps @ 1080p if you want graphics like this.

I'm fine with both if they're aiming for 60fps in an online shooter.

Do you realy care if some games don´t reach 1080p in the next 3 years even if everything else is identical?

Sorry, but this always look like "console war" talk.

Most people can´t tell at first glance if an image is 900p or 1080p and even 1080p vs 720p is tricky to notice, if you are not close to the screen.

MS knew about it but they were näive forgeting those extra ROP would became the major talk point for this generation console war.

PS: I use console war as the short of "let´s look at minor details from each hardware and find excuses to fell good about the decision I´ve made to suport one or the other". .

If you are, who I think you are and you're coming from VG Chartzzz, you're the last person who should be calling out other people on "Console War"

If you're not, then I apologize
but you fall in line with that Dark Feanor

This is a tech thread. It makes sense to talk about technical differences.

No dynamic resolution? 720p ouch..

COD had it decent. Guess we'll see how well it plays out in Halo 5.

My guess is 900p for PS4?

Whelp... being that Battlefield 4 was 900p on PS4 and 720P on XB1, I don't really find this surprising. Isn't this essentially a reskinned BF?

1080p 60 fps gaming is QUITE rare if we're using under 399 $ hardware machines (both consoles) with specs probably set in stone in 2012, it is what it is.

No, not really. Player counts are cut to 40 max and environmental destruction is limited as well.

They did a lot to the engine since it doesn't have to support the PS3 or 360 anymore amongst other optimizations.

Depends on the game. A shooter like Battlefield/Battlefront 60fps is always more important than resolution. But if a game like Uncharted 4 wasn't 1080p I'd be really disappointed.

But you are right, most people don't notice or care. But we post on GAF, we aren't most people. We are enthusiasts and most of us care and can notice.

This is probably a very naive comment but how exactly can DICE not be responsible? Did they not know the hardware specs they were working with going into the project? I mean, why are they not to blame when they're the devs who created and tested the game from start to finish?

I for one am okay (overall) with how it plays on X1. I'm more responding to people who seem to say they shouldn't be held accountable and the blame should be on Microsoft/Sony or whatever.
Developers can only use the tools that they're provided with. Weak hardware = weak results.

It stutters a lot from what I played as well.

Yeah, same here. I'm not sure if it was frame rate or lag issues but it definitely wasn't smooth.

Either way, I'm pretty shocked it's 720p. It looked good when I was playing it but I wasn't focused on the visuals either. Now that I know it's 720p I am sure I will be able to tell :/

Oh well, I am picking it up on PS4 anyway so no biggie here.

Why? Consoles will always be inferior to the PC.

You want people to purchase consoles every 2-3 years? Yeah, that is not going to happen in our current economy.
They want this generation shorter but I'd like to know where they have played in the past 8 years. Not surely on console.

And where in my post did i say i want people to buy consoles every 2-3 years. I said i did not want this generation to last as long as the previous gen which i believe was 8 years.

Stop putting words in my mouth to suit your agenda..

It's like you entered a tech thread to complain about people discussing/comparing tech.

It must be some kind of weird frame pacing issue too. It reminds me of the stuttering from The Witcher 3 before the patches on XB1.

Why not though? Because the console version of the game specs are low?

His point is that will always be the case. So having a shorter gen will not make up for it

Its got nothing to do with being as powerful as a pc . Its the fact that neither console especially xbox can even hit the standard hd of 1080p. If that does not bother you then good for you.

So we got 720p confirmed. Wasn't Hardline even above 720p? It's a shame, but after having played it now, it clearly is a big improvement over BF4 and Hardline in terms of image quality and that means anti-aliasing as well. This IS a beta though and there's no telling how old of a build this is, but i don't think we should be expecting any resolution changes anymore.

I just don't get it though. It's been two years since BF4, that game had a much bigger player count, bigger maps even i think? If PS4 is now 900p, i didn;t expext Xbox One to be as well, but at least something like 792p like Titanfall(correct?) or 800p? But at the end of the day i know nothing about this stuff and i sure don't want to disrespect the developers.

PS4 version is pretty much the go to for 3rd parties anyway. All I do is play Gears on my Xbox but what else do you need.

For me it's exactly the opposite. I prefer pretty much everything on Xbox One over PS4, the UI, Xbox Live, the controller, all of it. Xbox One is SO much more than just meant for Gears of War. How about Forza Motorsport and Horizon? How about Halo? Sunset Overdrive, Rise of the Tomb Raider (yep i know..timed exclusive) next year Quantum Break, and so on. There's plenty of reason to own Xbox One for more than just Gears. As for third party games, there have been a few exceptions lately where Xbox One was the slightly better version.

You mean 1080p 60 fps. 1080p 30 fps on ps4 are quite common. To be honest even 720p aren't always guaranteed in the past.

Looks decent on PS4. Pop In is somewhat distracting. And the 900p is noticeable to me especially on power lines. Still, God tier lighting, terrific "special effects", mostly 60 fps. Pity I think the game is just boring. 8)

I'm not sure to follow you. :/ BF it's not 1080p because targeting 60 fps. But if you want 1080p 60 fps they are not the standard possible on this generation.

I think both console are underpowered especially the xbox, which i have. If you don't think they are then you should be happy for the next few years, and all this stemming from a simple comment of not wanting this gen to last as long as the last.

Both console versions are pathetic in the sense that they haven't upped the resolution since Battlefield 4 (which was a launch title), and now even feature a less player count. Not a concern for me though since I have a nice PC now.

Luckily i have a pc for most multi plats , i just can't use keyboard and mouse for fps tho :(

This... the game is DULL, the beta really allows me to know that I will not be buying this unless they add more content.

Go count the number of games on PS4 that are 1080p versus those that aren't, and tell us your findings.

Yes. They are under powered compared the PC. But they can offer decent performance and graphic for their price. PC exists for a reason after all.
However it's always like this. Ps360 has been competitive for how much? 6 months?

The graphics themselves are a real step above BF4, that's probably where the extra power went, but then again that was CPU power not GPU (I think).

The PS4 version also has a more consistent framers and better AA to make up for the 900p. I'm perfectly happy with 900p60fps over 1080p30fps. These consoles aren't powerhouses, we aren't getting 1080p60fps for the vast majority of games.
Sums up my thoughts well. Huge improvements over previous Frostbite titles, even if the res has remained the same.
