Star Wars Battlefront Beta Xbox One Frame-Rate Test

Tell me more...does the image smoothing option make your 30fps games run like phenomenal 120fps as well?
Ms should have used this ' natural rendering ' in their xbox so everyone could enjoy this 'phenomenal' 720p image instead of defending/bashing it

120 fps is just more frames. There is nothing really that remarkable about having it nearly 100 times the rate. Games are more about effects and art for me. Res and frames is the saddest thing to worry about.

DICE, I am disappoint.

Why blame Microsoft? It's not like DICE is hitting 1080p on PS4 either. They had almost 2 years to improve their engine. Abysmal resolution on a launch title (Battlefield 4) was understandable, but after that there were tons of tweaks and performance improvements in console SDKs. Hardline had the same problem, it looks like DICE decided to feed us the same subpar resolution until next generation.

Well, at least you were right if you chose framerate over resolution. But still, come on, DICE.

Best looking game on consoles and we get shit posts like this... Ok

I dont care what your preference is.
I dont mind the xbox running it at 720p.

But i am certainly baffled by you calling people's tv's crap because they dont find 720p 'phenomenal'.
i can tell upscaled 900p from 1080p on a 40" 1080p tv.half my ps3 games are smothered beyond playability on my 55inch.

YOU can be okay with 720p, but phenomenal in 2015 ,it is not.
There is nothing wrong with the people you can clearly tell them apart

Why does every Xbox performance thread turn bad.

Because for some people, 900p suddenly becomes acceptable.

The game doesn't run at 1080p on either console, but we knew up front that Dice was aiming for 60fps, and this is how they can obtain it (or get close to it) with the hardware available to them.

I would not say it is the best looking game, but it is among the best, even compared to the ones there soon will be released.

The game is a looker, and is running at 60 frames per second. If PS4, that is more powefull, is making it at 900p, it definitely does not surprise me to see it running at 720p on Xbox One.

Still, the game is looking and playing awesome! And I bet most of you would not know the game is 720p without someone telling you such information. By no means I will say that there's no difference between 720p and 900p (cause there clearly is when you look at them side by side) but there's a placebo effect aswell.

For those who owns a XB1, do a favor to yourselves and just try the beta. Try it as you haven't heard about its resolution. Just enjoy the beta and judge it for yourself.

Battlefront has so much graphical fidelity that 720p in 2015 is proper to use the words phenomenal. If we are talking Tony Hawk 5 with a 720p and 30fps with drops, maybe I can see a cry. With 4k TVs, you should also know that certain brands do have better picture than others. A VR headset also makes things look worse, even with higher resolution displays. Things are either not formatted correctly or stretched out. A 720p can look like an N64 game on it.

You can almost always tell the resolution difference when you stare at still shots side-by-side, even if its 900p vs 1080p.

Yup, definitely.
But in motion, without comparing side-by-side, it is much harder to tell (720~900 or 900~1080).

Someone was mentioning how in the XO version, you can definitely tell its a lower resolution when you walk indoors. Probably because everything is much closer to you. Outside though, it's probably much harder to tell.

I guess? This is straight mp...

Idk. This smells fishy to me.

Well the numbers for the one version will be shit now. Lol

I seriously doubt it's going to hurt its sales on XO. There's only a certain subsection of gamers who care about numbers so much that they straight up won't buy something if its not a certain resolution.

I look at the marketing for each console and hold that to my reasoning. I think its a big margin this gen.

Well, if you look at pure marketing then yeah, Sony has the leg up for this one. The PS4 version will obviously out-sell the XO version, but I think the numbers for both will be very strong.

I dunno, I just dabbled in all three betas, and there's no losers here. Game looks fantastic on all formats, and if I had to nitpick, I noticed texture loading on X1.

Xbox One owners really have nothing to be concerned about. When you're running around focused on zapping enemies and capturing the objective, you're not noticing minute details.

I will say this; capture the escape pod mode got a bit boring.

Lets wait till Mirrors Edge comes out to blame DICE. If that isn't 1080p with a solid framerate then yea, these guys just are not good at console optimization.

It also looks good when comparing to the ps4, not as good as the ps4 but definetly looks good.
I mean, playing the Xbox One version here, and I'm very lenient when it comes to visuals, but the low resolution even stands out to me, heavily. Aliasing and shimmering stick out like a sore thumb in my opinion. Been a loooong time since I've played a game at 720p.

Resolution is not the sole measuring stick of improvements to an engine.

I wouldn't say they're not good at console optimization, but it's plain to see the engine and what they want to do with it isn't very friendly to consoles.

It looks and runs beautifully.....it is very friendly to consoles....very well optimized. Graphics are clearly demanding.

I wonder if they ever considered the dynamic resolution that games are using on the Xbox One like Halo 5.
Those games for the most part end up running at 900p anyway. Or 1080pr.

Witcher 3 dynamic resolution on XBO runs at full HD on the menu said DF, for example.

did they say that was the only place, or are you just implying such is the case?

I dunno about demanding, per se. I was running the beta on my i7 rig with a GTX970 with all the settings turned up, and it looks alright for what it is. There's just a LOT going on, and a lot of players and assets to keep track of.

Wow at people saying the Xbox One version is poorly optimized. To put things into perspective, 720p60 is about as taxing as 1080p30. How many Xbox One games have this level of scale and visual fidelity while running at 1080p and 30fps?

Not many if any. It really baffle me people are saying halo 5 looks better than battlefront too. This game poops on Halo 5 graphically and has way more players.

All of this totally. Also I don't understand why people are saying it's the hardwares fault. I'm pretty sure DICE and many other devs had the capability to create games at this graphical quality(or near at least) probably last gen. Would you have said its the PS3 X360 as being the fault because they couldn't release a game that didn't fit the hardware requirements? Maybe they should make a 3DS port.

Just played it. I can definitely tell that it's 720p but I still think that it looks solid. I've played some 1080p games released this year that I thought looked worse/more plain to be honest.

I don't have a console and didn't play Battlefront either, so forgive me for intruding, but wasn't Dragon Age Inquisition 900p? And that also uses Frostbite 3. I know each team modifies the engine to their needs, but I wonder why DAI was able to go there, while Battlefront wasn't.

Dragon Age is 30fps, Battlefront is 60fps.

As if this is some problem with the engine? hah!

It could probably be 900p on xb1, just with much lower graphical fidelity(PC's medium or low).
I was joking about Phil sending out a team, the beauty of the visuals are just too powerful for Xbox one. We all know it, if you don't own a ps4, you won't know what you're missing anyway, so it should still be fun minus the dips in fps

break it down to simpler terms
Xbox and Ps4 go pumpkin picking, Xbox can only carry 10 pumpkins in their bag but PS4 can hold 15 in their bag

The bag size will never change

They probably looked more plain because they favored resolution over other graphical effects

It's always a tradeoff.

Same goes for the PC version. Except in that case there is generally much more of a difference than just pixel count.

Why does every Xbox performance thread turn bad.

Because for many it only counts that their console is better which they infer from numbers.
Numbers are easily to judge from everyone in the world and as long as the numbers are higher than that of the competition, all is good.

900p is acceptable to me as long as devs are pushing the hardware, in this case I think they are. I don't really read people saying 900p is bad just 1080p is better. So when people say 1080p is better, Some act as if we're saying 900p is garbage.

Oh, there are people out there who claim they will never touch a current gen game that is lower than 1080p.

Whether they're telling the truth or not is another story.

How long were people playing the beta before the guys making this video pixel-counted and it became an issue?

All I'm saying is that I've followed quite a bit of the Battlefront news and threads, and I didn't see any mention of shoddy Xbox graphics until someone put a number to it, and here we are 9 pages later.

Then you haven't been following them very well. In the BETA thread, pretty much everyone complaining about the graphics, or about them being blurry, was playing the Xbox One version. It's not some magical post DF thread phenomenon. You act like the negatives of 720p aren't immediately and obviously noticeable.

That said, I don't think it's fair to say the graphics of the Xbox One version are shoddy. Imo they're still great. They're just blurrier and more aliased is all.

720p looked great Before I played games at 1080p or 900p. Going back playing 720p games it looks blurry as hell to me.

you play this game on Xbox? because I think it looks fantastic.

edit: and for future reference, 900p are cool with you?
