Star Wars Battlefront will not have classes, will have 2 player shared unlock squads

So are they going to go the PayDay route and just let players carve out their own skill sets base on multiple skill trees, or what? That wouldn;t be such a bad thing if they went this route.

No squads sounds a bit weird though.

I dig this. I have one main bromango I buddy up with in online games so this will be ideal for us.

I'm nowhere near sold on this game though. It all SOUNDS great, and the trailer was good.

I hope E3 shows us a 20 on 20 stage demo or something akin to MAG back in the day.

I actually like the partner system, it was great in Medal of Honor. It also makes sense in this game because of the player count. This is only 20v20, so if they used the normal system it would only have been four squads.

wait, exp per battle where you unlock more weapons the more you contribute or general exp for a profile like every other modern fps? if it's the former i dont mind as much

Iron sights are just a specific type, whereas the ADS mechanic can encompass irons, reflex sights, scopes, etc.

Click the red text in the link where it says that, then read what is written. They just used many more words for no reason. Unless this was supposed to be some kind of explanation to people that have never played an FPS with iron sights. But if that were the case, they wouldn't know what they were missing anyway.

The more news that comes from this game the less I want to get it. Sigh and I was so excited for it too.

The squad thing is puzzling. I hope you can still enter games with more than 2 people and just have the respawn functionality restricted to 2.

I'll reserve judgement until the game drops, but I really liked the class system of the older games...

I still remain optimistic about this game though. DICE really seems to have gone above and beyond to make this a very characteristic Star Wars experience through all the incredibly accurate artwork and sound design.

Ugh so does this mean players customize their appearance? So we will have random rocket launcher tie fighter pilots and stupid shit like that?

I'm interested to know what effect this will have on voice communications. My go to thought says by default you'll only ever have one person available on the mic but a part of me is hoping that it actually means we'll no longer be confined to a small group and can talk as a whole team without it being restricted to text chat on the PC version.

I don't mind changes, but it kinda feels like they are trying too hard to be different not only with the big games currently out there and even previous Battlefront games. Sharing unlocks with a friend is cool, and a general buddy system is fine, but completely replacing any sort of squad system with one seems like a stupid decision to me. I don't play with just one friend, in fact I mostly play in a squad of 3 with those 3 being different friend groups entirely, I don't know why they think stopping people partying with anyone but a chosen friend would be a good idea.

Now this will be fine if there is still some broader party system in place besides having a chosen friend, but otherwise I'm starting to feel a bit disappointed in what I've heard about the game so far. No space battles and only a one friend system just seem like the oddest decisions to make.

This is fucking awesome. Reminds me of playing RE5 co-op with somebody who was geared up enough to just give me stuff that I wouldn't yet have/needed and vice versa. And this has that co-op mode too, so that's clearly a substantial feature here.

This is sounding substantially different from BF. More so than I think anyone was betting on.

I am a bit worried that your character won't have any personality, but you can't really customize a stormtrooper. By definition they are clones and have to blend in, and they are not gonna let you deck out the rebels with cool gear, hairstyles and weapon skins. The game is all about authenticity by trying to live the star wars battles, so I get why there are no classes.

At the end of the day, if the game is good and the gameplay is solid, it will be alright, even if it breaks the current status quo. For one thing I am looking forward to seeing how it will feel playing with no scope. It might be a lot of fun!

stormtrooper <> clone

I knew this would have unlock bullshit. So they can sell the quick unlock path for some ridiculous amount.

This is going to be a disaster. I'm on record. It'll sell millions and millions, but it's gonna suck.

I'm not sure how I feel about no classes and it usually gives people a role and encourages teamwork, but we'll see. The buddy system could be cool, sounds directly inspired from Medal of Honour Warfighter.

Interesti...

Never mind.

yup.

Sorry modern competitive games, skill based requirements only for gameplay, not locked behind time investment. So tired of shit being gated behind XP in competitive FPS games. Developers need a new gimmick to keep players motivated, christ. We never needed that shit back in the day, pure skill vs. pure skill and it remained the greatest competitive shooter experiences to this day.

So... they've replaced the squad system with a 2-player buddy system... and they still aren't offering split-screen for online?

sound good. dont get the disappointment, if u want classes go play the 100 other fps that have them. the buddy system however sounds limiting but need to see it in action first.

I generally prefer classes in MP games but I also appreciate customization so I'll have to give that a shot.

Two players seems too small for a squad though.

No class system seems okay, will be fine as long as they find a way to balance it properly. Not a huge fan of the buddy system replacing a squad system though. I know that it's a very "Battlefield" mechanic but it works well and serves it's purpose.

players just freely pick whatever equipment they fancy, rather than being constrained to a pool of class-specific choices.

I'm actually okay with this, just give me different outfits, that's all I ask

Edit: Read the XP thing, meh

Reading through the thread me me chuckle a bit.

One side::

"Yay! This is so different from Battlefield! I'm liking it!"

Other side:

"WTF? This is so different from Battlefield! I'm hating it!"

So...it seems DICE is damned either route they go, then? xD

I'm reserving judgment until we know more concrete info. I do think DICE knows people play MP stuff with more than two people, so this "Partner" thing shouldn't hinder people from playing as a group (or with friends).

Personally, I'd have been fine with Star Wars Battlefield...but that's just me. Still excited to see/play this one. I gather, this will be my go-to game once it's released. Let's just hope the Heroes system is sound enough...unless they tie it into a killstreak/pointstreak system? I don't know how I'd feel about that if they did.
