Star Wars: The Last Jedi Official Teaser

Can someone explain to me the technical difference between a teaser and a trailer? It seems like there is a lot of blurring between the two these days.

Teasers used to mean "very short advertisement" not much more than a minute or so.

Now they basically mean "a trailer that shares almost nothing of the plot."

That's essentially the dividing line. A trailer is a commercial (2+ minutes, usually) that takes you through a very basic plot synopsis (which most people tend to regard as "omg spoilers why even watch the movie now Way to just Give Everything Away LOL" ).

A teaser is a commercial (can be around 2 minutes) that relies almost 100% on disconnected imagery and no real sense of the story at all.

Its a teaser, not a trailer.

I know, but lets look back at tfa ones (Granted tfa was helped by years of absence)

Big shots

TFA Teaser

*Kylos lightsaber
*Falcon (Endshot)

TFA Trailer
*Luke putting his hand on R2
*Anakins Lightsaber
*X Wings over water
*Falcon Going into SSD
*Han and Chewie saying "We're home"(Endshot)

Again its not a criticism as I like the trailer, but it didnt have many huge iconic visual shots, and didnt leave on an iconic visual shot. That is where, I believe, people find some criticism because it didnt pack that oomph power.

You didn't say it had the tone of Empire, you said they were going for the same beats as Empire. Not at all the same thing.

I misspoke then. By beats, I meant darker tone, Rey's training, Resistance getting hit hard, more ominous threat, etc.

Again, that's not bad nor is it saying it's an Empire ripoff either.

Do you get this upset when people talk about movies in real life?

Jesus christ at some of these posts.

No offense, Bronx, you're a cool dude, but I'm not sure what else you should be expecting at this point when you regularly post stuff like that in these threads.

Shit, that applies to all of us.

It's a boring ass trailer. If it didn't have SW which as a franchise I care about and enjoy the movies, I don't know if I'd give a shit about seeing this movie. In other words, the trailer didn't do its job and the only reason I'm seeing it is because I like the franchise.

Hope that clears it up.

I mean, it's a teaser. It's not really supposed to show anything besides "hey here's a few seconds from this movie you're all gonna see anyway"

If that last line from Luke doesn't pique your interest, "The Jedi must end", I really really question whether you are really a fan of Star Wars.

This alone is the bomb that gets dropped that indicates this movie is going to be different.

Eh, sort of. Anakin I always pictured as an honorable man who gave in to a far easier way of power to conquer things in life.

Basically not at all how the prequels portrayed him

Clone Wars Anakin was, I don't know about Prequel Anakin. No one can realistically say that Prequel Anakin came off anything less than a complete entitled sociopath, no doubt unintentionally, which makes it even worse.

I love the shots with these

damn i was hoping that was pod racing

So you were looking and not listening

Got it

I'm not that invested in SW so vague hints at stuff like ending Jedi Order don't give me raging hard on. Like I said in earlier comment, for fans who are more invested in SW this must have been great trailer.

Looking forward to it, but Kylo Ren is such a shit antagonist. Kill him off in the first 10 minutes and just use Snoke.

I'm hype for this movie! I think Rian's gonna deliver the goods. Doesn't mean I can't critique J.J.'s work.

Isn't the "TFA Trailer" your describing Teaser #2? iirc TFA only got one full on actual trailer a month or two before its release.

So you just wanted to look at the lights and don't care about the stunning revelation that the Jedi might be thrown away completely. Alright

That second one was actually teaser #2 (which actually came out around the same time in April 2015). Then there was a trailer.

My tense is off but I'm saying that Kylo Ren is what I imagined Anakin should have been in RotS. Struggling with rage, inadequacy, and conflicted about the dark and light. Instead we basically got an binary save the galaxy hero to child murderer on/off switch in about five minutes. Mostly as the result of the constricted timeline because anakin started the story as a boy instead of as a jedi apprentice or whatever.
