Starcraft Averatec-Intel Classic: Season 3

I keep reading that Luxury is really good during practice sections. He's supposedly better at ZvZ than Jaedong at non-broadcast games.

Well, he does use the name Practice sometimes but you never know.

And how do you play better ZvZ than Jaedong? That guy literally only loses against a Zerg once every six months.

Luxury tends to very risky and aggressive. He'll five-pool or play an unorthodox build (as unorthodox as ZvZ can get). He's a very well-rounded player with a lot of creativity in him. Even after winning some titles, he might still have a bit of stage fright/pressure that affects his performance when playing in proleague.

Jaedong is considered to be the best at televised ZvZ since his game sense is practically unmatched. I remember games in which he'll have scourges stationed right above the enemy's first muta egg as it is hatching.

I think his Achilles heel in ZvZ is how he isn't good at adapting to a changing situation. He's usually the one dictating the game and having the opponent react to him. We saw in the past that players, such as Oversky and
hyvaa
, who keep a cool head and take the initiative against Jaedong stand a good chance of winning.

I don't know if I'd call that a nice line up per se. The first match is almost a toss up, with Calm having the edge due to experience. Shuttle should easily beat ZergBong. Jaedong should embarass JJonga. Much can beat Falcon if his old man hands are still up to the task.

As with the larger brackets of every tournament, it's usually 1 veteran vs 1 newb until the Ro16.

Rofl, it's as if Skyhigh stepped aside and tripped Index. He ended the game just by defending his base. :lol :lol

The look on Index's face was hilarious.

Also... what's taking so long on getting this week's replays up? I couldn't watch it live.

Finally got to Flash vs Reach.

Damn, now I remember why I was such a Flash fan, he is fucking INSANE :lol

The Jaedong vs. JJonga matches are up, and they are VERY well worth watching if you missed the live casting of the games.

It was a
nail biter
to say the least.

So tonight's the first night of the Round of 16, with two great best of threes:

Code:
June 14, PDT(PST+1) 02:00, Ro.16
Game #1 Flash(T) KTF MagicNs	VS	HoeJJa(Z) KTF MagicNs
Game #2 Shuttle(P) STX SOUL	VS	Hwasin(T) STX SOUL

Flash is playing and I'm a total Flash fanboy, so I'm definitely rooting for him over HoeJJa and though it might go to three games if Flash does something unconventional (I'm convinced that if Flash stuck with defensive builds even more often than he already does he'd win even more), it probably won't. He's mostly a PvZ specialist and players that don't hit their timings just right against Flash get annihilated.

Match 2 should be a bit more interesting. Hwasin's always been a TvZ specialist and his PvT record is much less stellar. Shuttle went through ForGG in the round of 32 and gave me a huge scare earlier this week when he almost knocked out Flash from the OSL round of 32. There's also the fact that Hwasin like never ever makes it past the round of 16 in anything (despite always reaching it!) it seems. I like Shuttle here, where he will go to get massacred in the round of eight by the Little Monster.

Code:
Game #1 MVP(T) Woongjin Stars VS Berserker(T) CJ ENTUS
Game #2 Tempest(P) KTF MagicNs Mensol(Z) Woongjin Stars

* "Best-of-three" for each game
* Map order : A Garden of GOD - A Ridge of Heartbreak - Outsider

Code:
Game #1 Jaedong(Z) Hwaseung OZ VS Much(P) CJ ENTUS
Game #2 Violet(P) KTF MagicNs Effort(Z) CJ ENTUS

* "Best-of-three" for each game
* Map order : A Garden of GOD - A Ridge of Heartbreak - Outsider

Jaedong looks like he is ready to wheel grampatoss to the retirement home.

REALLY looking forward to Violet vs. EffOrt. Both players have been playing absurd Starcraft over the last couple of months.

Actually, I think it is $52K from GOM, + $40K from Blizzard now.

GOM is really coming around. The winner also gets a seed in this year's Blizzcon.

Effort
must have had to go to bathroom really bad with those eally quick games. Not a good day for Protoss.

I hope they improve the observer tools for SC2. Specifically, I'd like to be able to see an outline of each player's visible area on the minimap (most appropriately via a coloured line of the player's color at the edge of their visible area). That way I can better understand why the players are doing what they do, instead of watching from the observer POV, where you can see everything. That bit of information there gives you context for just how brilliant these players are.

I'd also like to see them allow user commentary and dubbing of playbacks, and even have it uploaded to battle.net
I've heard they're going to charge money for some things on battle.net... I wouldn't mind paying a few dollars for the ability to download good commentaries on good plays through battle.net

They should also include detailed stat breakdowns with graphs, giving your normal curves (or S curves) to help you see how you stack up against the population. Also have it filter for players with similar abilities/friendslists/etc.

For all the effort they put into make SC2 competitive game, those sorts of analysis tools will help as much.

If you watch BattleReport 3, resources/min are in, unit count, unit/building production count, food count are all in.

Shuttle did take one game out of a best of three from Flash in a recent Starleague qualifier, so that one might be one to watch. That being said, he pretty much really needs to 2-0 him since Flash is like something like 80% or so on Destination (which isn't surprising, since it favors turtling builds that result in the kind of attrition games that Flash just crushes people in).

July's been slowly coming off the wheels for months now. I expect Skyhigh to 2-0 him.

I have gotten completely hooked on these videos and can't wait till the next set. Gojilla v. July Game 3 was fuckin' epic stuff, probably my personal favorite of the season.

I actually reinstalled SC:BW to try out a few of the strategies I've observed (just a few matches against the comp so far) and man it gives me an even bigger appreciation for what these pros can do. My APM is only around 50 and my macro drops off once I get sucked into a big battle (all of the sudden I have like 2K minerals and gas). I can almost hear SDM shouting "That was HIGHLY UNNECESSARY!" :lol

Back when SC came out I used to always play as Protoss but I think Zerg might be more my style now, I wanna get good at Muta harassment and lurker contains. And it's all getting me pumped for SC2.

Fuck, I just missed the Beserker vs Tempest series, and launched the GOM player as they announced the winner. So fucking badly timed.

Well, I'm looking forward to Jaedong vs Effort. Should be cool :D
