Starcraft II Collector's Edition announced

60 is not PC full price, that's console full price. I'm not supporting that. I'm sure I'll get an agreeable (read: 50 max) price at launch somewhere anyway.

Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 are about the only two games I am willing to pay more than $49.99 for. Assuming dedicated servers existed in Modern Warfare 2, I definitely would have bought it at $49.99, but not for $59.99. Same goes with Assassin's Creed 2. The game is awesome, and assuming it didn't come with Ubisoft's nefarious new DRM scheme, I would have grabbed it at $49.99 even though I already played it on the 360. Ubi can fuck off at $59.99, though.

I called this like 2 years ago when the game was launched. Someone can even do a search. I didn't nail the price though. I figured there'd be a 50, 60 and a 90 dollar edition at launch.

Instead we have only a 60 and 100 dollar editions.

So let's pull out my PSOOMA math/calender once again (*Pulled Straight Out Of My Ass )

Predicted release date - June 25th 2010(it's the last friday in june)
Starcraft 2 : wings of liberty standard edition 59.99
Starcraft 2 : Deluxe wallet rape box 99.99

oct/nov 2010
WOW: Cataclysm 49.99

July/aug 2011
Diablo 3 : standard 59.99
Diablo 3 : uber satan wallet fucker edition 99.99

nov/dec 2011
Starcraft 2 : Heart of the Swarm 39.99 standard edition
Starcraft 2 : Wings of liberty/heart of the swarm battlechest 59.99
Starcraft 2 : battlechest collectors edition 89.99

summer 2012
WOW: another expansion , possibly last major one ? 49.99
nov 2012-july 2013
diablo 3 expansion pack 39.99
Starcraft 2 : Legacy of the void 49.99
SC2: deluxe battlechest 99.99

2014
SC2 expansion pack - 39.99
new MMORPG - infinity dollars

So we can clearly chart just how broke a blizzard fan will be in the coming months and years.

Warcraft III were $60 launch too. This is nothing new. The official Starcraft II thread needs to have a note about Warcraft III pricing bolded in red.

Um SC2 only gets 2 expansions, why do you list a 3rd expansion in 2014?

i meant how big is the book itself? Most collector edition books are tiny even with lots of pages

The WoW artbooks are pretty much as big as the CE boxes. They are basically the reason why the boxes are so big to begin with.

I'm just anticipating there'll be a "brood war" for starcraft 2. Remember the 3 main games are all part of the same storyline this time around, I just figure there'll be a seperate expansion with a few more missions for each side to get through before the whole thing is done.

Fail. You're missing WoW Cataclysm LE.

They've already said they think of the Zerg/Protoss games as expansions. All 3 games will have self-contained stories with definite beginnings and endings, but will also tie together to create an overall big picture.

I know I was going to buy it no matter what, so I didn't need to open this thread. For some reason I just did and once I'm in all I said was "HOLY SHIT!!!" :lol

Ban warning, you say?

I am not a fan of any CE but it is Starcraft.
Practically I don't need it!

Also smh at not day 0 digital release? I wasn't ordering on Amazon for $50 because I was going to get it off Steam! :lol

Ok maybe that's too much. Back on topic:

I wonder how big those dog tags will be. They'll have to be thick enough to have a USB connector. Will they be on a chain that you can wear? Will the game play off the USB key? Wearing Starcraft Broodwar around and always having access to it would be pretty sick.

Along with "wow you guys are paying for 1/3 of a game lolol," I hope.
People saying that should be banned for being complete idiots spouting shit they don't understand anyways.

It would be akin to saying "HAVE FUN PAYING FOR YOUR HALF OF A GAME" when you buy anything that later has a single expansion pack released for it. SC2's system just means we're:
a. Getting two expansion packs instead of one which is awesome.
b. The campaign in the stand-alone SC2 is Terran only.
c. Each expansion will have a campaign as awesome as the stand alone.

That's all it means. It's not like Blizzard made the entire campaign and decided to cut it into thirds. It's that Blizzard made the entire campaign three times too long and instead of cutting things out it's cutting it into thirds.

You can already make portable USB versions of SC. :D

Actually Blizzard hasn't made the other campaigns yet, and they're still polishing the Terran campaign. That, along with the obvious balance and Battle.net work that needs to be done, is why the game isn't already out.

Any other company would've shipped the game already. The beta already feels like a more finished game than recently released games.

I meant made as in designed and planned.

Pretty much this. I'd rather have this game out sooner and get the rest of the single player campaign later.

$100 is nothing compared to the waiting time it has been since Starcraft 1.

Day motherfucking one with 1-day shipping bitches. The rest of you cheapies can go to hell.

They've said that they haven't even settled on the unique gameplay mechanics of the Zerg and Protoss campaign yet. They're still brainstorming. The only thing they've planned out is roughly how all the stories will tie together and how it all ends.

They have, kind of. There will be a mini Protoss campaign in Wings of Liberty according to Blizzard.

They said they're making single player training missions for Protoss/Zerg for people who want to be taught by a tutorial how to play those races. The mini Protoss campaign is probably just going to be controlling Zeratuel and maybe a few other units to be used for story reveal purposes, maybe to bridge the time gap since Broodwar, but it won't have whatever the unique mechanic the Protoss campaign will have in 3 years.

Why no day-one digital release? :(

They need to make friends with retailers to encourage them to stock a million $99.99 giant boxes in their stores. I doubt retailers would deny Blizzard anyways, every EB/BestBuy/Futureshop I've ever seen still carries the Starcraft/Diablo/WarcraftIII Battlechests and regularly restocks them.

Looks like EB Canada wants $69.99 for regular, while Futureshop/BestBuy are only charging $59.99. Considering we have dollar parity, screw EB.

Oh man...... Blizzard is tempting me. Dammit! I'm gonna stick to my original plan regardless of this sweet CE. I'm gonna wait until Starcraft II Battlechest Edition comes out. That way I get all 3 games, hopefully some extra goodies on the side & save some money. $60 per installment times 3 is a bit too much even though there will quite a bit of content per installment.

So you'd rather wait until 2014 to buy a Battlechest instead of having the game 4 years earlier? Are you one of those guys who bought a new PS2 for the first time over Christmas, and won't touch this gen of consoles until next gen is out?

This CE is a pretty nice deal when you break it down:

* The Art of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, a 176-page book featuring artwork from the game
~$20, high quality, large artbook

* An exclusive 2GB USB flash drive replica of Jim Raynor's dog tag, which comes preloaded with the original StarCraft and the StarCraft: Brood War(R) expansion set
$30 ($15 worth of games + $15 for custom USB stick)

* A behind-the-scenes DVD containing over an hour of developer interviews, cinematics with director's commentary, and more
$0, no one cares about this (as far as assigning value goes)

* The official StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty soundtrack CD, containing 14 epic tracks from the game along with exclusive bonus tracks
$8 give or take, itunes album pricing

* StarCraft comic book issue #0, a prequel to the comic series
$0, might be worth something down the road

* A World of Warcraft(R) mini Thor in-game pet that can be applied to all World of Warcraft characters on a single Battle.net account
$25 or so off ebay

And of course, the $60 worth of SC2 itself. All in all, that comes to around $140 worth of things, not to mention the ability to have unique units in the game.

$60 per installment times 3 is a bit too much even though there will quite a bit of content per installment.

This neeeeeeeeds to be bannable soon!
hopefully asking for things to be bannable isn't bannable

Why blame anyone? The quality of this game will likely transcend any 50 dollar offering by a generic company. What's wrong with paying extra if the dollars are reflected in the quality of the game is my question?
Implying cost is proportional to quality...

Why was The Orange Box $60 at launch?
...why was MW2 $60 at launch?:lol

I'll buy the CE to scalp a few years down the line. I'll wait for price drops for the actual game.

:lol @ those who paid $59.99 for WC III at launch. Went to a midnight launch for the game and the store sold it for $39.99. :D

I'm usually not one to buy collector's editions, but damn blizzard makes it so tempting to spend the extra $40. I really like the art books and soundtracks especially from blizzard games.

ChoklitReign said:
smh. Blizzard is acting as greedy as Activision and GAF gives them a double standard because they made Diablo. I hope the complete Starcraft 2 series doesn't cost $180. I still don't need to buy any collector editions.
You know how much I paid for the original World of Warcraft Collector's?

$600

A.) Blizzard's Collector's Editions are always worth the extra cash to me.
B.) Blizzard's games are always worth any extra cash.

This motherfucker has just been pre-ordered :D

Not impressed by Blizzard's pricing and scheming as of late. They'll have me for SC2 but the love affair will probably be over after that.

I'm going skip and wait for the last SC2 expansion to arrive, so I could get those juicy new units, which I am sure, owners of the first two games won't get :P

Even probably Trilogy Battlechest if the price is right.
